  3. This is a great site for sleeves. https://sleeves.bigboppa.co.uk/index.html The owner of the original site was called Erling, he sadly passed away and it's internet domain was lost. Then some collectors got it up and running again, way too important to let this stuff disappear. Thanks Erling and the new hosts of the site.
  4. I really miss Fran, her sudden passing was a shock, and I cant believe its been 10 years already! I didn't really know her back in the day, though our paths crossed. I first go to know her properly when I invited her up to Manchester in 2002 to share her personal experience of the scene and dancing, with the actors in 'Once Upon A Time in Wigan': she was very generous and inspiring. A truly genuine, humble, kind, funny, soulful person, and a really fantastic dancer whose soulful energy and love of the music was something you felt viscerally if you danced near her. She always brought a smile to my face when I saw her. A true one off!
  5. Jimmy Cowburn is added to The Main-Room
  6. OF COURSE THAT black Challenge label was printed in L.A. and all over USA. It ran longer than the green one. I can't believe I forgot it ever existed. Other than the auburn 1958-61 label, this black one should have been the one I've seen on the most individual 45s. I guess I'm becoming senile - losing long-term memory. That's pretty scary to me. Up to now it's been mostly losing short-term memory. Worse yet, now, remembering this black label, I'm seeing Ron Holden's name in those block letters on that black label, in my mind's eye. So, even with a gun to my head in Russian Roulette, I now would bet that I've seen at least one black store stocker issue 45 of Holden's '67 record, because I feel it is much more likely that I really did see it, rather than my memory playing tricks on me. Still, I am not 100% sure. So, I'll still say it was likely VERY rare, as I can't remember seeing it at the distributor, or in the major South L.A. record shops. And so, we still can't know whether it really existed, or not, for sure, until we have some concrete proof, such as a scan, or documentation.

  16. Soul at the Man Resident DJ's Span and Mike Coburn welcome you to the 2nd of our Soul nights at the Winking Man Pub in 2024. Come and join us at the most stunning of locations, a venue with an unrivalled dancefloor and sound system! Soul at the Man began 9 years ago and at first we relied on a loyal, local following. We now have Soul fans travelling from Stoke-on-Trent, Cheshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, South Wales and further afield. We will be playing everything on vinyl as usual, Northern Soul Classics, Sixties R'n'B, Motown dancers, Sixties and Seventies Soul and of course some rarer and underplayed tunes thrown in! The Winking Man has absolutely everything a Soul fan needs. It is a gem in the Peak District on the main Leek to Buxton Road A53. It has beautiful surroundings and a large free car park. Overnight camper vans are more than welcome, however please contact the venue first to book your spot. If you don't wish to drive, there are plenty of superb local taxi services including minibuses. For those travelling from further afield, there is a great selection of local accommodation. Inside, the large bar opposite the stage sells a great range of refreshments at very reasonable prices. There is ample seating throughout the venue when you need to take a breather from dancing. In between the stage and the bar is the pride and joy of the room... the huge dancefloor. It will be polished to perfection and a pleasure to dance on. We must insist on NO TALC, DRINKS OR HANDBAGS on the dancefloor please. Tickets are just £5 each and are available from the venue itself, 'The Winking Man' and 'The Fountain Inn' or by getting in touch with myself on 07972675873 or emailing me at robspender@gmail.com. You can of course message me on here too. Online tickets available by clicking https://skiddle.com/e/39045680 You can also pay £6 OTD. 20. Little Rock Coachmen - I’ve Had Enough/Tears Of Blue (MY) Vg+ £350 Killer double sided in demander that so very rarely comes to market. Top side is a relentless upfront funk edged garage soul dancer that’s been on top European DJs playlists for the past few years, has had RSF plays and is destined to take the wider rare soul scene by storm. Flip it for a sublime ‘Shades of Sorrow’ style garage soul ballad. One small blemish on run-in of ‘Tears’ creates a couple of lights clicks on first couple of revolutions but otherwise this plays Vg+ (clips of both sides available via DM). Don’t sleep! https://youtu.be/FYlsd35yjj4?si=soMpTY0vA5wdAggh https://youtu.be/6t4Ubu2cGD8?si=ybhU40kwfl837awy PayPal as friends and family or add 4%. Postage UK £2.50 standard first class, £4.50 recorded and insured, £8 special delivery, Europe £9.50 tracked and signed. USA £12 tracked and signed. DM or email gspluck@aol.com to reserve or for more information. Please note I do not hold records for more than 12 hours unless agreed in advance.
  21. After eight years we have built a great reputation for playing across the board soul music, from the rarest of the rare, classic Northern Oldies to in demand Crossover. Last month was off the scale musically. June will be no different but will focus on more classic underplayed oldies and dance floor fillers. I will be unavailable in June but my fellow resident DJ Dave Cartlidge will be joined by several local guest DJ’s Pete Ratcliffe Ashley Fellows, Phil Jones / Alan Gilroy (Double Decking) Derek Watmough Sam McConnell. Promises to be a great evening under the guidance of DC & Pete.
