After reading about Sonny Allen's 45 on Canadian Reo it got me thinking.....

Have we ever done a thread on northern rarities that were also released on Canadian labels (as well as in America etc) and also whilst we're on the subject what about northern rarities that were only ever released in Canada.

Must admit those Canadian labels do look very nice indeed.

I ain't got much knowledge to add to this thread myself but I'm sure between us all we have....

Laura Lee's Ric-Tic 45 To Win Your Heart is on Canadian RCA. Strange because some Ric-Tic's are on Canadian pressed Ric-Tic and some are on Reo/ Quality. Supposedly there are two Edwin Starr's on Canadian RCA - Headline News & S.O.S. but I've not had them myself so would somebody please put up a scan?

I have only found 3 Detroit 45's on the red Canadian Ric Tic label, in fact one went through ebay the other and sold for $8, sold by a local dealer, he also has a Little Charles up at the moment. All my 45's are boxed up at the moment so I am unable to add any scans.

I will grab the stuff I have bought recently and see if there any Canadian 45's worth scanning.

You will have to excuse as I do not have a scanner. I also have a few Canadian only Soul 45's by Jackie Shane on Paragon, Frank Motley on Arc and also have the Jack Harden that was posted previously. I will add more as I can get to the boxes but here are half a dozen:

picked up these two recently, i think (but could be wrong) the Little Richard one is hard to find.

The one major advantage of these copies is they are Vinyl not the crappy styrene press normally found with Okeh copies in the US.

I sold a Rufus Lumley - I'm Standing on Reo on here might have been year before last, £60, could have sold it half a dozen times and I'll be there's not been more than 5 of those ever turned up, sometimes I'm such a mug. The Kurt Harris first mentioned by Steve Foran on page 1 I sold that 18 months ago on Apex, it belonged to Alan Pollard. I think I had the first Regency copy of Donald Jenkins (was auctioned so it must have been quite early) but wouldn't complain if it was already around.

I bought Soul Sam's Canadian Epic copy of Call Me Tomorrow off him at the Lafayette in about May 1979, it was in his playbox and he just got fed up of me asking him for it, cost £18.

I have Marie Knight Thats no way to treat a girl on Orange Columbia. Love it. US Musicor of course.

Not quite how I envisaged it would come out on the page but you get the idea.

And Hesitations which is vinyl and label looks sharper than US.

All these were found scattered through thousands of US singles so how did they get there.

At Global Records a huge shipment of mixed US singles included about 50 copies of the Eddie Spencer record (about 20 of them cracked in two).Again why did Canadian issues turn up in the US. Did US companies pick up overstocks from Canada or did Canadian labels ship stuff to US shops.

Anyone else find Canadian records in bulk in the US ?

Funny I've had 2 major Lance's on Canadian Epic, they were quite tough to shift the NS snobs only really wanted Okeh, having sdaid that my Canadian Williams & Watson sold well. The Canadian releases are by far the rarer.

Used to have Stienways on Sparton,Ben Aitken on Canadian W Bs loads of Detroit things on Quality and Reo and the Lou Johnson things

Whilst going through the boxes and palying a few today saw this gem, Black & Ward "Back Up (Against Your Persuasion) " RCA PB50053. Fairly certain this is only on a 45 in Canada, and boy can Laurel Ward wail her soul on this tune !.

Theoretically Canadian should be rarer as the population difference is so vast, the population of Canada is still only around 35 million compared to the US - discuss.

i have a copy of r.dean taylor's ghost in my house on canadian motown ( as opposed to other releases that turned up on different labels ). it was obviously timed to coincide with its u.k. issue in 74 however, the b-side, lets go somewhere is different in that it dosnt have the spoken intro...

Sorry if I missed it, but has anyone mentioned the sublime crossover winner CARLA WHITNEY "I've Been Hurt So Many Times" on Attic. Canadian only.

I've also got RUBY WINTERS "Better" (Diamond) - pretty much looks the same, but it's on vinyl not styrene...

I have tried to get every Motown record on a Canadian label. Problem is, it seems no one knows what came out in Canada and what didn`t. So it is very difficult to know If I have got them all or not. Also after a few releases on London and Reo they all came out on Tamla / Tamla Motown but they retained the US catalog numbers (Tamla 54021 - 54333, Motown 1000 - 1938, Gordy 7001 - 7216, Soul 35001 - 35123, V.I.P. 25001 - 25069) so you cannot follow them chronologically like you can with UK TMG numbers. Below are some interesting Canadian Motowns in their original sleeves. The sleeves themselves tell a story as they changed along with the label changes.

Also some interesting General label releases attached and Some Okeh/epic stuff
