A new year and a new photo thread to keep us entertained through the months ahead.

My first addition is something suitably seasonal - a wintery scene taken in the Amsterdam woods.

DSC_1212-web.jpg.403007fb2d1c4c9deefe4ade26a6e734.jpg

All contributions very much welcomed, and if the photos we've seen in previous years is anything to go by, we've a lot to look forward to.

Enjoy!

Here's Ace a couple of weeks after he arrived at the rescue centre from Romania. He was even thinner than this, poor lad.

I really dont get some of these descriptions of beer and wine - I just cant taste them. Sweet orange marmalade, pink grapefruit, a heady sense of cherries, apples dew, blah, blah, blah. I'm probably far too common.

Good afternoon sir . Trust you are well :hatsoff2:Be like me, don't drink so it's all wasted.  Not that that was always the way. Drunk enough to sink her majestys  fleet in the past .

Well, we have bit of an unusual situation when it comes to the "Most liked photo" for the month of October.

We have a tie – with two photos getting the same number of "Likes". But (and here's where it's a bit unusual) both were taken by the same person!

So, double congratulations to @Winsford Soul for the brilliant close up of a young badger, and for the kingfisher sitting on a branch.

Well done, Steve... twice!

I've always liked to be different.  No seriously many thanks once again for all the likes and comments that are really appreciated.  There's plenty of good photographer's that post on here so to end up in this position is truly humbling

Mal. Love the sunset colours and the reflection on the car. Brilliant

Mal the more I look at this scene the better it becomes.  I personally would enter it into as many competitions as possible.  It's better than plenty of published material.  That's how good I think it is mate

Thank you all, let’s up these likes, give steve a run for his money lol 🙂

Be honest Steve, I take that / these pictures all the time, it’s a staple collins composure:-)  you will see it from me many times, just framed differently . Be honest I could not take the pictures you do, I don’t see things as you do, if you know what I mean, have a more editorial eye I guess, and I like silhouettes. Below is the same picture taken in Vancouver, just different framing:/)

Thanks Mal. Photoshop out the two cars and that's definitely a winner. Not that i have ever used Photoshop or any other editing software. Wouldn't know how to.  Your eye for detail  has again proved to be able to get the perspective just right. Don't think I could.

This summer a bush just outside the kitchen window had loads of flowers , and visiting bees. It now has masses of berries which attracts a blackbird every day around the same time. After about five days I managed to get a decent photo just as it picked a berry.

The bush is a Pyracantha angustifolia, commonly known as firethorn, an excellent burglar deterrent, and thick enough to deter even the most determined of cats from catching blackbirds and the likes.  Vicious and rewarding, a nice combination.

Thanks for that ,Dave. Another bush next to this one, but not a firethorn, had a pair of  blackbirds nesting this year but something killed the chicks and threw them out, magpies probably but could have been one of the many local cats.

A canny blackbird would nest in the firethorn, about the only thing that would threaten them then is a stoat.

Great photo's again chaps. I'm reviewing them whilst Ace is vigorously chewing his new toy far too close to my groin! Ouch!
