Had some tapes lying around for 40 years from the Casino 5th Anniversary and finally got around to digitising them so thought I'd share them:

4 hours of memories or an education for those too young to have been!

There are 3 tracks which I couldn't recognise (highlighted underlined) (1 in #2 Richard's set and 2 in #3 Russ's set)... it would be good to complete playlist so any help appreciated. UPDATE: Thanks to Steve Cee (and a few others) 2 now identified - playlist updated so just the one now to identify male (poppy) vocal (baby love / raging love???) in Russ's set tape 3.

NOTE: Where there are 2 artists the first is the cover-up name followed by /the real artist - same with the titlle

Hi,

There were 2 versions going around of the record in the RS spot - Peter Jarett Run Run, Baby Run on MGM and Tommy James on Roulette, think RS played PJ version and the instumental is Libra - Appollo 11 on Ranwood, no idea what the other is, no doubt Mark Freeman will know!

Cheers

Excellent thanks for the share much appreciated 👍

Love Hustle was smashing it !!!

Remember the night well..... Fab times.

Thanks Steve - playlist updated - I did recocgnise it but couldn't for the life on me recall what it was called as I'm sure Russ announced the title as 'Out Of This World'.  A comment on this clip suggests that it was covered up as by Mystic Moods - One Way Out Of This World : which would make sense as he played Astral Trip directly before it.

Cheers - I'll have to listen to it again - I 'assumed' it was Signs on UK Decca ... purely on the basis that it was c/u as Mickey Moonshine (also UK Decca)!

09:50 ??? Female Group ? - don't recognise

It's Peter Jarrett and The Fifth Circle- Run, Run, Baby, Run ( a Tommy James and the Shondells cut also from 1967).

Luckily I never had that happen.  Sounds OK given the technology we had back then ... probably get better quality from a phone these days 🙂  captures the atmosphere especially for those who've never been (as per Len's comment).  I've got a few more from earlier which I might post from Wigan and St. Ives.  Unfortunately never got to Cleethorpes before it shut down but similar sounds played at St Ives.

Thanks - a few have pointed it out but I updated the wrong track!  There's just one left now in Russ's set tape #3 - male (poppy) vocal - title I would guess has Baby Love in it.

You're absolutely right - I only saw the ‘back end’ of this era, but I saw enough (Head bands, wrist bands, white socks, & Karate Kicks) to get the ‘feel’ of what it really was about (Realize this was much later, but the scene was still full of people from that time)

Scary as hell to boot!

Incidentally, I forwarded this link to a mate from this era, and he said it bought a lump to his throat.

Thanks for posting.

‘CLAP!’

Len

I really enjoyed listening to that lot thank you for posting, Mark. :hatsoff2:

Brilliant memories as i was there but haven't a clue to what was played so a great memory jerker. Cant believe the lack of clapping to Do I Love You😮

Had all my tapes nicked from my car in the car park of the Golden Garter in Wythenshawe while watching Edwin Starr. I was concerned about those than my car at the time, probably worth more than the car 😀

Bobby Paris to me was always a Big production, Big Theatre, Big Venue Track. Just seems wrong today somehow when you see a few fat old pensioners shuffling around to it at local Soul.

Still remember when Black Echoes reviewed it and that week George Clinton was the guest reviewer and said he liked it and the BE Staff felt the need to insert a paragraph stating they had to explain to him who made it and where it was aimed, but even then he gave it a thumbs up!

Hand clapping 👏🏻
60:02 Peggy March - If You Loved Me [RCA Victor]

Packed night - I went to Bisley the Friday night before and someone had a ticket who couldn’t go - deffo to much gear that weekend lol

Fantastic recording takes me right back. My c120s for that night got chewed up years ago I thought that I'd never hear them again 😀

That’s a great story !

A great post and a tremendous antidote to the naysayers on the recent Casino top 50 thread who said Wigan had died the death by 1975 never to be the same again!

I had 3 tapes of this night given to me just after Wigan had closed and they were LIFE changing and set me on a path of collecting every record played at  wigan ,and led to my name Wiganer1,and the name of my business and now theres extra tracks not on mine,, absolutely  brilliant stuff ,,,that atmosphere -- spine tingling ….thanks for loading

I'm afraid not as his is a cover of Supremes hit ... unless there's another?  I was only guessing title was 'baby love'  - I know what it is now ... it's 'Lazy Love'   and found a version of it here by Napoleon Jones (a British white pop group feat.  David Christie (who had that 'nasty' Saddle Up' hit in 80s))... from 1975 ... but I'm not sure if this is the version Russ played though - can't quite here what he announced it as but suspect he covered it up anyway?: .. see if I can find anyone else daft enough to record it!!!!.

Did you manage to collect every record played at Wigan? Sticking closely to the topic of the thread, would you say that the ‘best’ records brought the best out of the dancers at the Casino?

Hiya a few still elude me..but what a fantastic journey it's been....to sum.8 years of the good the bad and the ugly. But love em.all
