Is anyone watching Into The Congo with Ben Fogle? It's on Sunday nights on Channel 5 - I always find his programmes interesting & worth watching. He seems like one of life's nice guys! 🙂

I thought he was wooden when he did Crufts, he had no idea how to interact with the contestants (The owners not the dogs) 😃 I think he only did it the once. On Animal Park & The Chernobyl Doc he's ok.

Looking for a Friday night show to go with your dinner? I binge watched this little gem last night, and can recommend it highly. A German psychological thriller, dark and moody, with some really good character pieces - including the children. Give it a go................

Dear Child, Original title: Liebes Kind

TV Mini Series 2023 - 4hours and 46 mins. IMDB 7.3

I must be getting old and intolerant ...  ... I've yet to find any offering on BBC3 that I can stomach ...

I've just watched Doing Money on bbc iplayer - from 2018 I think, so not a new drama - but I've only just found it. A true story that makes for compulsive viewing - very well-acted but also extremely sad, disturbing & thought-provoking. Well worth watching.

For anyone that thinks that Henry Cavill should fill Daniel Craig's boots as 007 , I can confirm that after watching him in "Argylle" that he really doesn't have what it takes to play the role.

"Argylle" is a pleasant enough waste of an hour or two , but it ain't a Bond class outing by any means ...

"Poor Things" is picking up all sorts of Nominations and Awards. Emma Stone is winning awards as well though I found her character slightly annoying at the start. There's lots of weird and wonderful things happening. One of my all time favourite films is Jeunet's "Delicatessen", this film makes Delicatessen seem quite normal. I can't make my mind up if it's totally brilliant or totally bonkers. Mark Ruffalo seems to be having a ball. I'll bet he'd have done this film for free if he had to. I know I would. lol.  I need to watch it again.

"American Fiction" I've just watched this film and thought it was great. Pleasantly surprised to hear Ace Spectrum's "Without you" playing over the opening credits.

Not really my cup of tea Mike; but, I've been scrolling channels all week trying to find something, so I'll have a look tonight.

The German thriller I mentioned a few posts back is a cracker. (imo)

Seven Seconds, on Netflix, gritty and hard hitting, set in Jersey City, cop's looking after their own, albeit, extremely illegally 👊

I started Good Morning Veronica first season the other night.

Great acting and characters, great back drop in Sao Paulo; it looks like a beautiful city.

The story is playing out very well indeed; it's dark. Highly recommended so far.

ps; keep them tips coming.

Just watched "Poor Things" , a perfect antedote to a miserable soggy day ... 😍

A very worthy Oscar winning performance by Emma Stone , a must see movie no shadow of a doubt ...

New series of Astrid in Paris this week, enjoyed previous ones it's been interesting watching Astrid's character develop.

I have to say, Halo is chuffing Brilliant just now, series two, it's got something for sure, I could not wait for this week’s episode... and it did not disappoint. Thats if you are a sci fi buff of course...

The Gentlemen on Netflix is brilliant. An off shoot of the Guy Ritchie film

Shogun on Disney is really good.

“Set in Japan in the year 1600, Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.“

Just finished the final episode of "Masters of the Air" ...

Not quite up to the extremely high standards set by "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" but a very good watch nevertheless ...

Hi All

I've a couple of films to recommend. Two of them have my favourite Danish actor in - he's in a few big movies these days. All three of these films are quite dark, violent, but in line with the bleak story lines. If you're into worldwide viewing, and like dark thrillers, then I think you'll like these.

Mads Mikkelsons' debut film - "Pusher". There is also a "Pusher 2".

Then over to Belgium for "Bullhead".

I'd rate at least two of these in my top fifty films.

Over to you guys; I'm on the lookout for recommendations too.

Happy Easter everyone.

Mm, I haven't seen that Simon. I'll check it out, Mad's is only in the first one isn't he - I'm guessing he's not in the third.

Have you seen Bullhead too?

I have, and would revisit, but off out to MacDonalds....................... for fillet of fish 🙂

First visit to the cinema in a while, yesterday when to see DRIFT which I enjoyed. Very moving story that slowly builds up to it what happenned in this woman's life, slowly teasing us a long the way. Two solid female performances.  Indie British film for anyone interested.  DRIFT TRAILER

Next two films that I still haven't seen which I will do next week, the Bob Marley One World film and Zone of Interest.

been getting a bit of decent tv watching in last few weeks

Ripley - Netflix - though episode 1 was great, looking forward to the reat

This Town - Episode one done, have no real rush to go back to it yet even though all available on iplayer

Is it just me or do others feel things are a bit off when viewing past events/eras that you are familiar with?

1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything

Apple TV a great documentary, once we started watching we binged the whole series.

This is one of those that has been promoted ambiguously. I expected it to be about 2-tone music, early 80’s youth culture etc. There is very little music of the time, it’s actually more to do with dysfunctional people / society who happened to be involved with the IRA activities in Coventry at that time. Not a bad story once it gets going, just don’t expect The Specials etc, to make a cameo appearance.

I thought it was rubbish, definitely not what it was sold as.

I gave up after about 15 mins, as above not what I expected. As for things being a bit off I tend to think the writers of some dramas take a particular political stance and often ignore a more balanced view of events.

A weekend trip to the cinema to watch Dune 2

Yep and it's as they say, for us, one of the best cinematic experiences that we have had

blown away

Wow! That's a 10 out of 10 review Mike, at least by the sound of it.

I haven't been to the cinema since 1996! That was also when I last went on holiday.

The film was The DaVinci Code - not great really, although I thought the book was excellent.

yep I'd say 10/10 but that would be for the overall experience as for me the visual and audio are a major factor in that rating almost as much as the actual films plot. would doubt that the rating be that high if watching away from the cinema

anyone caught the imax version?

Agreed. It's a massive disappointment. I've just one more episode to go but am struggling through it.

On the other hand, Scoop on Netflix, is pretty good about Price Andrew's car crash interview with Newsnight.

Netflix: 3 Body Problem, in my opinion, brilliant, still trying to fully work it out and will probably have to watch it twice but yeah, well worth a watch, great cast too.

There's a few bit's of stuff floating around our screens then but nothing that appears to have been really rated by many of us.

I'm currently watching Bitter Daisies season 1 which I'm enjoying, happy to recommend that. It's a Spanish crime thriller on Netflix. Bitter Daisies (TV Mini Series 2018–2020) - IMDb score 7.1

Peter

Just finished Season 1 - it get's better and better, so now, I'm giving it "Highly Recommended".

I liked this series, it became apparent it was made for Teens really, with the way they interspersed the relationships, but overall a really good Sci Fi series. I think the start of the series was better than the end, they managed to set the story out over several episodes, which really keeps you gripped.

Wasn’t sure about how they tied the story up, but that’s inherent in allot of great stories, allot of times Hollywood doesn’t bother with a Noir ending, where actually it suits the story better...

It was great how they shot the mother who was key to the story, in plain sight, she's there, but doesnt get explained until later, you would have to watech it, but a master stroke..

Ripley is good, to be honest it’s become excruciating by episode 3, which is a good sign 😉
