A short  note about kev  it won’t come as a surprise to many that kev disliked social media same as myself . his death is on  Facebook yet nothing here no mention ?  
So seeing kev was my best mate  and coming round from the shock and devastation  i felt for the past few days . I just wanted to say a few words 

Most folks on here knew that kev run  the most popular soul event in the north west  For over 20 years with hundreds of different collectors &dj’s  all enjoyed DJing there .I’m very surprised to see that there’s been no mention on here of his death 

Not everyone bothers with Facebook. so I have taken the liberty to say something myself Manny close friends will know he could be prickly if he didn’t know you also moody . but that was kev but underneath those that knew him like I did will tell you he had a really good  sense of humour and was extremely kind hearted and generous, 

I heard a few weeks ago from someone that kev had been giving records away . for nothing ? I found out he gave them to a young kid who had been given a few DJ spots early doors .  kev told me the young lad was autistic and his mother was made up with him enjoying n soul especially D Jing . And Kev asked me to not let anyone know he gave the lad records 

That’s the real kev Murphy I was proud to call him my friend!

Paul, i reckon if anyone had a right to say it how it is..it's you and maybe folks on here have been waiting for someone to make a statement, who knew him best, you'd fit the bill in every way.

I heard the news early Saturday afternoon, as Andy Dyson messaged Tim Brown during the coutse of his function at the Golden Lion in Tod...out of respect Tim felt it inappropriate at that moment to say owt....other than yourself and Barry Maleedy amongst the few, no one knew Kev better.

I'm sure everyone on here will gratefully thank you for saying the words you have....and Kev definitely would.

I thing you summed up to a tee , if you broke kev's exterior down, underneath he was a genuine, honest, likeable hard working bloke...on another level as a dj, with a record collection second to none....held in such high esteem, he was always the go-to guy for the last hour anywhere, and folk waited for his sets because they knew they were always on-the-money.

There's an almighty void been left, because he was a proper promoter as well, resident at the Lowton revival for 7 years and resident at Culcheth, as well as many other places...no one can fill his shoes in the same way.

God bless Kev Murphy, we will miss you more than you'll ever know, and many thanks Paul.

It's sad to hear about Kev Murphy. Another brick in the Northern Soul foundations gone. Some of those soul nights he put on at Lowton had more atmosphere and better records than a lot of allnighters!

Like others devastated by the news.  Kev was a great friend to many of us, he would do anything for you and likewise in return I'd have done anything for Kev.  Had many great times over the years with him.

Truly well liked by many, another of the scene's great characters gone far too soon.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

I only just saw this and it comes as a real shock!

As many have said, he was a top man, a lot of fun, generous, a great DJ and a lot more

Got to know him during the Sheridan years and then of course when we did DDA in the back room...

Struggling to process this, haven't been on FB for a long time.. only knew Kev in recent years got to know him through my cousin's friends, totally devastated by this news RIP mate will miss you so much 💙

Hard to get my head around the fact that I will never see Kev again, you never ever let me down mate. Rest easy Kev Murphy.

For those who have asked.. Kevin’s funeral takes place at 11am on Friday May 9 at Holy Family Church, New Springs, followed by committal at Wigan Crematorium an hour later and a wake at 'The Village on the Green' in Aspull.
