Managed to get my refund though so I don't know if this counts.

I would say that the two dearerst boots are the Yum Yums lookalike from 1975 on ABC-Paramount, or any of the coloured vinyl 'demos' of I Never Knew by Eddie Foster.

John Hillyard in LA once told me that all the Ray Agee "I'm loosing again" Soultown are Boots !

I know it's not the dearest pressing, but a Soul Bros Inc - Pyramid went for £80 about three years ago. Considering it looks nothing like the original, it's crap quality and not even the full song (cuts off before the end and you can hear Ruby Sherry singing her heart out at the last knockings ) I think that's a lot of money for that record.

No no that's just it, Phonetics - Michigan Move is the B side. But as Pyramid cuts out (on the A) just before the end, you can clearly hear a couple of seconds of feminine ingenuity!

The question should really be "what's the rarest bootleg pressing" because these freaks who pay silly money for pressings on ebay are just mugs. People seem so shit-scared to actually put their own prices on things nowadays without consulting a price guide or a web site. John & Weirdest bootleg is worth £30 tops, Yum Yums the same.

I would think the rarest ones are these coloured vinyl Eddie foster boots, especially the 4 coloured vinyl ones of which there was only meant to be 4 copys ever made, i have been offered £180 for a blue vinyl copy .

Also the 4 coloured vinyl copy bootleg of Manifesto must be pretty hard to find now. Only ever seen 1 copy and belongs to Stu Bower.

Its a pity the same cant be said about the Casino Classics ones on coloured vinyl. I've a few of those.

Actually they could be considered as the most expensive boots/reissues in my house. Because if they hadnt help capture my imagination about Northern Soul, I may have been saved from this life of beans on taost to pay for a copy of the final Romark track to complete the set ;-)

A genuine advertised bootleg: the Yum Yums went for £125-ish, often listed @ £100 and sells, can't think off-hand of a more expensive one but JOhn & The Weirest sits in the same bracket.

i am beginning to see the benefit of never paying more than £150 for a record, and thats a lot for some, i have paid £30 for a johnny my boy boot, but was being greedy as i wanted to sell it on, as i had one already and didnt look properly! that will teach me, have been accused of selling boots when they werent ,a tactic to beware off,if selling to rogues at niters when u r drunk!!!!!!!!

Depending on the day Tomangoes / Billy Arnell / Gwen Owens can all match a price of £50 or so. Amazing really - Wish I'd kept all mine that I bought when I were a kid in the mid 80s!

One of the books says it goes for approx £1500 (sorry haven't got the other book) & 2 have just recently gone for £200 each on e-bay. As far as I could see they were both originals.

Royal Esquires has never been booted. Why did you pay £90 for what was bound to be a boot, there was no way you were going to get a Billy Arnell for that price, that should have told you instantly what you were bidding on, and if that didn't start bells ringing then you can always ask some basic questions to clarify what you are bidding on. Buyer beware always comes to mind when doing anything on ebay.

Sold a boot of The High Keyes 'Living A Lie' on eBay for £56 a few years ago - clearly marked up as not being an original copy and with a scan of the label too.

Also sold a boot of the Invitations 'What's Wrong With Me Baby' for a mad sum (can't remember how much exactly but it was a lot), to a U.S. collector - clearly advertised as a boot, and even pointed out to the buyer before payment was made - he replied saying that he wanted it because it was a boot, and it was the first one he'd seen after years of searching - turned out he was a full on 'Dynovoice' collector and he had to have it.

they were originals, some copies turned up. I don't understand why when some copies turn up people just assume it is a bootleg because of what it's "supposed" to sell for. like are they trying to protect the value of their 'real' originals that they paid $2000 for?

I think the first one was four figures...then another leaked out...then it became obvious they were pressed on modern plastic and it was all a scam

If you hold the boot to the light the vinyl looks almost reddy/brown - plus if you put the needle on the record, it's totally silwnt and then you hear the slight hiss of the original come in

I get it. Nick was referring to the price of the first one that turned up, rather than the current price of the ones that turned up in quantity.

To be honest, I had thought that these were legitimate pressings, rather than Boots.

I believed that they were newly pressed 45's, by the owner of the Valise label, of previously unissued material, from legitimate tapes of his own (unreleased material).

He also pressed up a lovely Frank Dell track around the same time, in "Welcome Home" and did a limited run of JGW on Red vinyl which is quite rare I believe.
