I got asked to pull out a few Xmas songs for a Starpoint Radio Xmas show which is coming up, so I thought I'd dig out a few Northern things and I'm struggling already.

The only one I could find was this......

Artie Fullilove "Santa Claus Please Listen To Me" Marlu 1001

https://www.zshare.net/audio/523814705ea9a338/

The best bit on the track is when he sings "Santa Claus please listen to me, please don't bring me a gun" LOL.....

Any others out there?

Ian D :shhh:

Stevie Wonder had a few, I cant remember them :D

Kev

A few tenuous (very  ) ones.....

Jonny Taylor - 'Hoove's in the night'

Barbara Rudolph - 'I got a feeling (I ain't gonna get down this chimney)'

Dramatics - 'Inky Dinky wang dang do (Yes I've been at the sherry again)'

Holly St-James - 'Thats not Love'

Tree-Lights - 'Lover'

Eddie Holman - 'This will be a flight to December'

The Carstairs - 'My Christmas Sack realy hurts me girl - can I empty it into your Stockings?'

Lou Johnson - 'Unsatisfied.... with my presents'

Eloise Laws ' Toy Factory'

Odds and Ends - 'Apple-Peaches Mincepie'

The Devonnes - 'I'm not gonna pick up my toys..... so there!!'

And my all time fave.......

Charlie Chalky and the Blueys - 'You can fook right off if you think you're parking that contraption on MY roof - you fat twot'

The wife bought me a 'xmas with Motown' cd about 10 years ago, a bit cheesy but it does warm the cockles when the trees up.

'Little bright star', diana ross and the supremes is nice for a bit of novelty value.

This is in no way an endorsement of diana ross :D !

I'll get me sleigh

More Philly than Northern but always liked The O'Jays - Christmas Just Ain't Christmas (Without the one you love)

Seasons Greetings

Steve

The best one has got to be Stevie Wonder "What Christmas means To Me", awesome. Followed by the aforementioned Darlene Love "Christmas(Baby Please Come Home)". I hate the Artie Fullilove track.

Paul

how about this one

USA ATLANTIC 2576 CLARENCE CARTER # BACK DOOR SANTA = THAT OLD TIME FEELING

HORACE WILLIAMS - I'M GOING CHRISTMAS SHOPPING (MAGIC CITY)

FAB DETROIT XMAS NORTHERN !!!!!!!!!!!!:ohmy:

Agreed - Magical Detroit dancer that every DJ should own for their xmas spots.

.......and if you want to get a little "cheesey" there is also Felice Taylor "It May Be Winter Outside" not quite christmas but along those lines

Nice Xmas soul / doowop album sold in Starbucks last year believe it or not - some good tracks including:

Drifters - White Christmas

Otis Redding - Merry Christmas Baby

Brook Benton - Soul Santa

Solomon Burke - Presents for Christmas

William Bell - Everyday will be like a holiday

Here's a few more for your consideration -

1) Donny Hathaway- "This Christmas"

2) The Intruders- "Everyday is A Holiday" (not pure Christmas, mentions

about every Holiday you can think of.)

3) Supremes- "Children's Christmas Song" ( the cheesiest of them all ! )

Never one to miss a sales opportunity me.....so if anybody needs one I've got a copy of the Artie Fullilove (M- 2 xol) and the Horace Williams (M-) up for sale....drop me a PM if you're interested

Brenda Lee - Christmas will be just another lonely day

Stevie Wonder---Thats What Xmas Means To Me

Darlene Love-Xmas (Baby, Please Come Home)

Not northern, but a great song anyway - Gee Whiz, It's Christmas - Carla Thomas

Diana Ross and the supremes - Santa Clause Is Coming To Town and my fav

Stevie Wonder - What Christmas Means to me, both quality

Its not Northern Soul ............ But its a cool old Jamaican Christmas Ska tune ! :D

Its posted In the Ska section if anyone is feeling festive !!!

Syng McGowan's "Dear Santa" on Hope is a good one.

Lou Rawls " christmas will really be christmas" from his "Ho Ho" album is very good.

I think it appeared on one those french "smoocher"compilations from the late 90's aswell.

Here's a you tube clip as I don't have capabilites to do soundfiles.

https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KI9NiMSaY

Ace had a CD out in 2006 called "Rhythm & Blues Christmas".

Mixture of blues, ballads & doo-wop; best tracks are a couple of doo-wop dancers 'Santa Claus Baby' & 'Santa Claus Boogie' by The Voices.

Not an essential purchase but would add to the festive spirit.

Quite hard to get but totally brilliant is Betty Lloyd - Six Days Til Xmas - BSC

Xmas songs are my personal nightmare! I think only classical music can express the "spirit" of christmas. ( I don't mean Wagner!!!)

my radio show from last year. I maybe have enough for another one but I'm doing an interview this year. Anyone see that ebonys version of "christmast just ain't christmas" that was just on ebay? I've never seen that before.
