He could have the grim reaper performing with him & it would still make me happy ... Phwoar !!!

There was a request for dancers on FB I think.

Oh flippin eck, now you tell us!!!!! Mind you, I can't dance, so that rules me out lol

Just watched the Pharrell Williams performance on the 'Brits' with the Manchester Dolls Northern Soul Dancers on stage with him and Nile Rodgers.

I wait with bated breath!

Just watched it, don't know about you guys but it made me cringe a bit, I do like the record btw, my mrs was pissing herself laughing at me, I watched it from behind a cushion

Wow!!! Well I thought that was really good, & I like how he acknowledged "Manchester's Northern Soul Dancers" (bet he doesn't say Leeds as sexy as Manchester just sounded in his cute American accent lol)

It looked like Ivana (i think thats her name) the girl of the Northern Soul Girl Dancing YouTube Video was up there dancing!! Flipping brilliant, if it was her, as, in my opinion, she deserved to be up there, as her video was very clever, & I loved it!!! (slightly more than his video actually!!!)

The Brits finally acknowledge Northern Soul. Better 45 years late than never I guess....

Gutted I missed Nile Rogers.

Didn't cringe at all, the general public would have been focusing on him, & not paid much attention to the young girls

Hasn't damaged the scene at all, just a bit of harmless fun

I loved it, but that's mainly because I love the song, & I honestly never tire of hearing it ... It proper cheers me up :D

It was pretty spectacular I thought. I almost went but it's the opposite end of town to me.........

There's already a thread in freebasing about this, but not sure how to link it up, so I'll just say it again ...

Yes I have just been informed that she was there on stage.
In my opinion too, I think it was a good piece, good dancers, a bit over the top dress wise, but the track is excellent although a bit Marmite.
Good show!!

And just in case anyone wants to get serious, here's what I said earlier ....

P.S I won't repeat anything else of what I wrote in Freebasing as its just me getting excited over Pharrell :D

Yeah me too Alison, the best artist music wise for years, and I don't think it will damage the scene either, yesterday papers n all that.
It'll all be forgotten in a week and the scene will carry on regardless.

......very true...... :D

I think what people can't handle (Have to include myself in this to a point) is that some feel it simply shouldn't be seen to keep it underground........along with all those good looking young people of course!

I'll look forward to reading tomorrows 'papers' :D

Night night.

We lost the battle a long time ago to keep it underground, so no point trying to fight anymore. There are still elements of the scene that are kind of underground, thankfully.

The less than 3 minute clip of these young dancers, who had to be in costume for affect, in the background is no big shake. Like I said, Joe Public wouldn't have even noticed them, it was only us eagle eyed folk who showed an avid interest in them.

They're young girls & what an experience for them ... I'm not jealous in the slightest  (think I would have fainted had I been that close to Pharrell) Good on the girls I say  No harm done at all (worse things have happened) They were simply backing dancers, no big shakes, not to me anyway, life is too short to get stressed & wound up over someone else's soul journey.

Won't get chance to read tomorrows news, thankfully I'll be at work :D

Night night Len, tell Nina I said hi

Well put , and I think it was the young lady dancing, apparently she has had 1m hits on youtube, not my cup of tea but I can see the appeal [ the song that is not Phwoar Williams].

Manchester indeed!

Bristol, Wigan & Leeds that I know of.

Liam & Duffy will have to share the fame now...lol.

Good on them to do something at such a young age & a bit of fun. Isn't that what it's all about.

Oops, no, of course it's all very serious & no fun is allowed...

IMHO, as a young soulie of 16 myself, the scene I LOVE, and many others love, for it to have any chance of surviving needs new blood, a load of whiney soul snob bastards with comments like "Where did it all go so, so wrong?!!" are never going to take this scene anywhere.... fresh, enthusiastic, music-loving kids (similar to a bunch of kids who went to an old casino club in Wigan in the 70's) who have discovered this fantastic sound of black American soul music, with a heavy beat to die for, and fast tempo.... Remember that first record that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end? They're are kids out there now, finding a euphoria with Northern Soul, some 50 years after teenagers first had it... Now if that's not the magic that will keep this scene going, I don't what is....

Are they taking the p**s?? these are professional dancers aren't they who have been dressed up in seventies costumes.I don't think real soul people would do this.I will not be suprised to see a northern segment on Come Dancing....And now The Come Dancing FFFFF FFfootsee Dancers..

Well Levanna from Bristol, who is very much not a professional dancer, has fantastic taste in music and very soulful was dancing for Pharrell.... Charlotte from Wigan, who too who is very much not a professional dancer and is also very soulful was dancing for Pharrell.... Lauren who came 3rd at Blackpool this year, who is also very much not a professional dancer and too is very soulful was dancing for Pharrell....

Not just about KTFing, it's about sharing it, sharing a passion....

Every time I see the younger folk at a Niter it gladdens my heart (especially when they're dancing or got their head in a sales box) and so it should with anybody who truly cares about this scene of ours. The scene hasn't been underground since Gethro & Co pitched up on Top Of The Pops in 1975, so having some youngsters dancing on the Brits isn't exactly giving away any secrets is it.
To those dancers I say well done, ignore the moaners and the jealous, just get on with enjoying the music in any way you want to

Try as people might, this music will never remain underground as much as it was back in the day of the Torch, Wheel etc. because it's too good to stay underground. New people hear it and like it, buy it and dance to it, go out to hear it and like it more.

y'know, like we once did and still do.

You beat me to it... Nobody would doubt those dancers were 'real soul people', would they? They lived and breathed it.. and then appeared on TOTP. Who cares? It was all so long ago. 1975 is not 2014... As Alison says, when the day shift clocks on tomorrow, there'll be much foaming at the mouth and garment tearing...

Dont remember people getting so irate when Keb appeared on TOTP as a backing dancer for M People

That must of been one hell of an experience for them all and fair play to the Happy singer he seemed very grateful to the Northern Soul dancers

Pharrell really appreciated the girls dancing for him as he twice from what I could hear bogged up the Northern Soul dancers

some young soulless getting an opportunity to dance on the biggest music event in the Uk which I would imagine would be live tv too.   What an experience for them and if it encourages some more of them Soul hungry youngsters I've been seeing about more and more lately then good on them.

Thats a a clip to show the kids and grand kids one day  :hatsoff2:

And few Northern Soul Fundamentalists will probably issue a fatwa....
