Rita & The Tiaras Original On E-Bay $3,850 And Still 5 Days To Go,

De-to

Recommended Posts

Perhaps somewhat inferior but if it's good enough for Butch then probably good enough for most of us. Me, I'd like a copy in the collection.

As I said..I had the Milton James and really liked it..had to be tempted really hard to let it go..hence the Walter and The Admerations

In fact I did clap eyes on the Milton James again when I was DJing in Valencia...it was on Marc Forrest's turntable!!!

They'd better not, we own it. Who was that company that pressed Little Johnny Hamilton Keep On Moving on a UK 45? Did they do it?

Joe Boy - they also did a double CD of Dore stuff so presumably they licensed them

I know not too many have come onto the market, but how rare is this record, in reality  ; any one know what the standard press was - presume they are out their somewhere ?

Bloody rare, and all the copies I have seen [3] have been in VG or worse condition.

I know of 5 copies in collections within 10 miles of my house!

Average that over the UK and you see that it is not extremely rare.  It's just great and not many would sell it!

I'd have gone for Walter and the Admerations too, quality over rarity plus two decent sides.

Perhaps Taboo, but weren't it the worst seller on UK Destiny (800 copies?) when issued in the UK for the first time.

R E Gards TOTP

I doubt that very much, did you see some of the other stuff they put out?

a friend of mine here in Berlin has a live recording (tape) of famous LA radio discjockey Jim Pruter playing this in his show back in 1967 introducing it as an great oldie...being so popular with the Lations down in LA..."Gone With The Wind" that is and not the flipside...wow.

Must have sold hundreds if not thousands at a guess if it was classed as a popular oldie back then already. At a guess there are still copies left and yet to surface from Latino households in and around East LA...

If it was a local hit though Marc, you can bet a lot will have been trashed.

Now you are talking rarity over quality...dire record (Superbs that is)

Can't decide if it's better or worse than Milton James?maybe the clue is in the" rare o meter ", being rare because someone obviously decided to trash em to save people's ears ;)

I think it's a great tune, good looking label! Only downside is it's £1,000+

The label looks nice but an expensive bit of artwork to hang on the wall...would prefer a Russell-Flint Print..about the same price

Ok John, it's rubbish, it's crap, not worth £2..... I still want one though

You're right, Walter got plenty of spins. It was Mark's ace in the hole record late 80's and early 90's when I got back into Allnighters and was one of the records that really hooked me. I was at the 100 Club when he spun Milton first, second, third etc and he really had to work hard to break it. If I recall, once he called it 'Indian Music' and another time he said something like I hope you dance to this 'cos it cost a ******* lot of money.

Sorry Beji, but it's one of the best allnighter records of all time. The atmosphere when played at a packed club in the early hours is something to behold. Fan friggin tastic. Just the first three notes would have everyone rushing for the dance floor.

Shivers down the spine just remembering it.

Agree with that, it's a complete beast, rare or not. I'd 100% play it and dance to it if it was a £50 record.

think I tried to buy yours Quinvy...in some distant past when I had money

The sound file on the TB copy sounds like it has groove wear. I'd take Jimmy Bo Horn (sic) instead.

i see tim brown has listed a rita & tiaras on his auction, along with some other nice pieces!

That's really interesting - although here in the US radio play did not mean the record sold. It's possible that the low riders were just hearing it on the radio and asking it to be played for dedications. I've seen radio charts that have now rare records charting high locally, but still only handfuls of copies around. People calling/requesting does not necessarily equal sales.

MOM is far superior, why it was never flipped at Casino/Central I'm not sure as it would have gone down a storm even then.

MOM and Rita both superior to Milton James as well.
