Running annually since 2013, this is the 9th photography thread. Thanks to everyone who has participated and made this such a popular and long-running thread. I'm sure we can look forward to lots of great contributions.

Given the restrictions we've been facing for so long now, getting out and about hasn't always been easy or even possible. But, with a bit of good fortune hopefully we'll get opportunities to revisit new and familiar places with greater ease. Certainly I've hardly been beyond my immediate environment during much of last year, so I'm opening this thread with a couple of favourite photos from some years back.

Both were taken in Elie on the Fife coast in Scotland.

First day back down in Pembrokeshire and just mooching with the camera trying to capture some sunset colour in the last few clouds in the sky and as i pressed the shutter button  a Swallow flew across the viewfinder, bit blurred but not sure how many more i will see this year

Thanks Andy. Weather forecast is quite good from Tuesday onwards  so hope to get across to Caldy island and the Red Squirrels.

The long staying Osprey  has left for Africa so wont be as fortunate / lucky as last year .

I was watching some nature program and it said a woodpecker wraps it’s tongue round it’s brain or summat like that when knocking on the tree etc to protect it, stop it from bouncing round the skull.

Monster Pike . Caught Lovers Lane , Yarm .

Length 5ft 4ins . Weight beyond 35lb . Weight scale exceeded limit . Damaged right bicep landing it . Like dragging tree trunk . Tail walk was amazing . Had 4 layers on as it was 🥶  . Injected dace was bait . 

Very collectable Record Centre . 

Love it on deck .

See size to weight guide used for catch and release so as not to cause any more distress to the fish. Your fish would be  a uk best according to the overall length of 5ft 4in = 64 " 

As far as I'm aware the current British record is still the 46 lb fish caught from a Welsh  reservoir but I could be mistaken as I thought one of 53 lb had been caught fairly recently but that would still be 13" smaller than the fish in the picture

Thanks for that . Can tell you Pike was fine upon release . Did have couple witnesses with me . That chart is close Pike vary seasonal due to spawning  . She was fat and ready . 

18lb Carp caught at Colmere Nature Reserve . 

Has giant Cat fish said by locals be over 60lb . Trying to book a pod go with Denis Billingham when back from his travels .

Martyn.  You need to use a woody good detergent then polish with a feather 🪶  duster mate

Just had a very special and extremely rare encounter with a countryside fox , they are so different than the urban foxes that you see in every town and city across the country and are one of the most difficult animals to photograph . I was actually photographing Badgers when it suddenly appeared and this was the only picture i managed before it disappeared just as quickly 

 

Im not sure of the expected boundaries of these photo's , but .. A couple of my scooter 'Gladys' , the first one taken in the Yorkshire Dales. The 3rd one ..taken on one of our early "Lock Down" walks , when we came across Lizzy - an eccentric local runner who went out in fancy dress just to lift peoples spirits. Here on the Leeds - Liverpool canal.

These are the Badgers i was photographing last night when i was lucky enough to see the Fox

The first Badger is so distinctive with the white stripe across its shoulders and it must be either a Cub from this year or its a new member of the Clan as in all the years ive been watching and photographing these two setts here on the farm i have never seen this particular one until now

 

Buzzard . Taken from about 300 metres away and the 2nd picture was as i tried to get a bit closer it just took off , they are so skittish. Both pictures are heavily cropped

Brilliant photos Steve. We live at Badger Farm near Masham. Do we see any badgers. NO.....

Just walked through my garden and saw this false widow spider trapping a wasp. Sorry for the quality as I only got my phone on me

Where i stay in Pembrokeshire must be the least populated area for Red Kites in the whole of the County, 10 miles away in the Preseli Hills there are plenty so this week i,ve been lucky enough to see two actually fly over the cottage where i,m staying. First time no camera, today misty, gloomy  morning but i managed a silhouette of one getting mobbed by one of the local Crows, so its hopefully the start of the Red Kite invasion of this part of the county

 

Just came across this great time lapse video of the Scottish mountains, superb stuff 

 

Had the trail cam out at the badger set for the first time since May as the foiliage is starting to die back. I got some video footage of the badgers and also these few stills. Not as clear as I had hoped but good enough to know  Good to see the family of 3 are still knocking about and also a fox. Will be keeping an eye on this over the autumn and winter

I have taken a few photographs over the years some not to bad, some just record shots until i can manage better ones but today i have taken a photograph of a male Kestrel perched among the heather on a Sea cliff that i will probably never better in my life. hope you are all as happy with it as i am. So chuffed

Thanks Andy. I slowly walked to about 15 metres away then  kind of knelt down and moved slowly closer to within about 10 metres  then i took the picture
