Happy New Year to one and all. Let's hope 2021 sees some sort of return to normal as the weeks and months roll on

Running annually since 2013, this is the 9th photography thread. Thanks to everyone who has participated and made this such a popular and long-running thread. I'm sure we can look forward to lots of great contributions.

Given the restrictions we've been facing for so long now, getting out and about hasn't always been easy or even possible. But, with a bit of good fortune hopefully we'll get opportunities to revisit new and familiar places with greater ease. Certainly I've hardly been beyond my immediate environment during much of last year, so I'm opening this thread with a couple of favourite photos from some years back.

Both were taken in Elie on the Fife coast in Scotland.

Happy snapping, everyone!

Steve. I go up there at least 6 times a year on the motorbike. To me the Northwest of Scotland is the most beautiful place on the planet. Get yourself and the gorgeous one up there. You won't regret it.

Somerset dad stubs out smoking habit for photography

Former heavy-smoker Dave Shaw, from Somerset, was inspired to "turn things around" after his wife became pregnant.

Since then, the 39-year-old has gone from an unfit smoker to being able to "practically skip up a hill".

"I needed to change my way of life and this is where photography came about," he said.

One of Dave Shaw's photos:

Was lucky enough to have a few  visitors to my garden recently .  Redwings and a Mistle Thrush.

Both are members of the Thrush family and are extremely cautious visitors to gardens, I see the occasional Mistle Thrush through the year but not very often as they have become quite scarce and its only the second time ive ever had Redwings visit my garden. Both pictures where taken through the back bedroom window

Ed . From Yorkshire would you say E dam. Bit of a  cheesy 🧀 joke I know..  personally I couldn't think of a worse place to visit 🙃 even if it was selling cheese flavoured weed. Mild cheddar is my limit on cheese. Enjoy the trip

These jaw-dropping photos of the Milky Way defy light pollution.

Each year, Capture the Atlas asks astronomy fans around the world to submit their proudest moments capturing the wonders of the Milky Way galaxy.

The winning pictures are judged on the quality of the image, the story behind the shot, and the overall inspiration that the photograph can provide to fellow enthusiasts.

Jaw-dropping is right. Check out the pics via the link I've posted below. Every one of them is absolutely stunning!

A few from today at Pennington Flash. First visit for a while and i was more than pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful but quite scarce Winter visitor to Pennington. Whooper Swans (22 ) , they have flown from the Artic, Greenland etc to spend the milder Winters here in the UK. You get plenty on the coast but not that often further inland, there where only three Juveniles with this particular flock so i hope its not a sign of a bad breeding season further North and they are so wary . Both pictures a cropped as they stayed well away from the bank

Only seeing the pic of the snipe, Ste. There are spaces for where the other two should be, but they're not showing. Maybe try uploading them again?

Thanks Russ. Was having problems with my laptop and it kept stopping me from uploading pictures and editing my post in here. Will have another look in the morning.

No, not seeing the other two - only the place/image holders where the pics should be. Possibly a site or browser glitch.
