Retro European heavy metal band, Lucifer, have released a new single, a cover of Gone with the wind is my love.

I bring this to everyone's attention now with the deliberate intention of preventing any DJ on the scene from playing it out as a cover-up. :wicked:

Lucifer is Nicke Andersson's "new" group together with his wife Johanna. Nicke used to be in Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric an death metal pioneers Entombed. This choice of a tune to cover does

There should be a law to stop this sacrilege!😀.

I hope it doesn't turn into another big hit, like Soft Cell and "Tainted Love!"🙁.

as versions go...i think it's a pretty good effort and quite like it (not enough to buy it). I guess that's partly down to the lyrics and production which haven't been too messed about with from the original.

As Ken B says Good effort from Sweden ,NS meets Death Metal !

Hmm, a blonde and a brunette, based in Stockholm. That sounds familiar, and similar to and old band that I recently heard were getting back together after all this time...Nah, surely not?

Anyway, I quite like it in a Dancing Queen sort of way.

Quite like that. I wonder what would happen at 4am on a Sunday morning.......................😲

That's the first heavy metal song I've ever heard with actual singing (not screaming), and they actually can carry a tune!  Too bad about the awful instrumental.  The drummer was good, however.

Their singing is more soulful than ABBA.  It's not really heavy metal.  It's "Light Metal"!  😄

Not for me..poor immitation of the original

I didn't mean to imply that they sang the song better than Rita and The Tiaras.  I just meant that their delivery was a more Soulful sound than ABBA's (which wasn't at all very "Soulful", and that I had never before heard the remotest link to decent singing or anything to which I could listen without having the urge to vomit, from a "Heavy Metal" song.

In the past there have been lots of these cover sounds ,and they still command a lot of money to own , I'm just surprised that somewhere down the years it wasn't covered by Texas , Cher or Banarama if only ,it may have sounded better ,,,,

This choice of a tune to cover doesn't surprise me, as he's a big r&b/soul fan. The Hellacopters, a garage group that I absolutely loved when they came onto the scene in 1995-1997, covered Silky Hargreaves "You're Too Good To Me Baby" and another one of his groups, the heavily soul influenced The Solution covered Fantastic Four's "Can't Stop Looking For My Baby", Albert King's "Had You Told It Like It Was" etc.

I reckon it's OK. Nothing wrong in covering a good song and taking it into a different direction.

Not my cup of tea but it's well enough put together.

I've heard far worse cover versions.

The thing that annoys me with these cover versions is when the masses hear these tunes, the cover artiste usually gets all praise & recognition, and the original artiste is often oblivious to them. The amount of people that think that soft cell are the original artiste of tainted love is a case in point amongst many others.

Yes totally agree. Haven't they got any idea's or creativity of there own!

Things like Yazz "The Only Way Is Up" and Simply Red with "A Lot Of Love". They totally overshadow the original better recordings.

Now on Kent at £7.99 , not £40, in the Soul Store on this site. I think I know where my money would go

If the records puts some cash in the songwriters pocket I do not mind at all , and I doubt if the songwriters mind too.

Bit like the Womack story when The Stones covered " It's All Over Now ' he was fuming till the writers cheque came in.

well I've bought both versions today - go stick that in your pipes

Great News For Lew Baretto ,{Dore Records} .
