couple of Lil Major Williams too, one last night went for just over $500.

The La Beat 45s - Described as Mint - Unplayed. Now there's something you dont see ... hardly ever. A premium on top of an already staggering price tag.

who,s to guess what this beauty will go for would have thought well over 3 k, tis 20 times harder than al williams( not supremely rare). up in this neck of the woods think i,ve only ever heard it played out once maybe twice, on original and probably at the wilton ballroom.

The Little Major Williams was buggered tho...had a skip and was graded by Manx at 4- his lowest grade. I stuck a punt on though as the skip side was Girl Don't Leave Me (brilliant as well) and he often grades very conservatively i've found....saw a VG+ JT Rhythm he sold and it was easily a minter....

Had a go on that VG Willie Tee on light blue Gatur (best version of it) that went for about £110!! Worth a go if it turns up and plays ok....

that was the second copy he put up on ebay within a few weeks, both pretty knackered.

Yes, he usually grades very conservatively, but you can't bet, as I bought records graded 5 or 6 and they are in the lowest condition I would accept, down from there you wouldn't enjoy a record..but more than fair grading overall.

most people who attend rare soul clubs ? this is just the type of rare record known by almost everybody on the scene but by nobody of it which is why we are all involved.

Just to find a Lester Tipton in any kind of condition is a big ask, as the story goes that Lou Beatty had 1000 pressed, managed to sell around 250-300 copies and the other 700+ went in a dumpster. I remember seeing the La Beat acetate at the Casino for sale at £80 (in Kev Roberts box i think) around 1980, (how much now?) but never seen a La Beat issue. So to have a minter is just fantastic.

The story must be roughly the same with the Al Williams disc, so why Palmer picked that up for release is anyones guess, and its just as (if not more) rare on Palmer.

I think the story with the guy selling them is that he is a dj on the American Northern/Beach scene, the Dennis Edwards was his also plus he has sold a few other big ticket numbers in the last few months. Good luck to him and the people who end up owning these discs, (it wont be me thats for sure, i`ll have to stick with my Grapevine copies), and dont forget to put a new needle in the head EVERY time you play them, just in case...........OUCH. I would be scared to take them out of the sleeve. :P:thumbup::yes:

re: recordmanx, I don't think his grading is particularly conservative, but to each his own I guess. I do like that he lists a lot of 45s and I do bid on his auctions a lot, he's a reliable person.

I don't think that's really a fair thing to say. Many of the disputes were either 1) eventually settled with feedback mutually withdrawn or 2) look to be the fault of the buyer and not the seller.

Brad's a great guy - anyone who's ever met him would tell you the same. He definitely fell on some hard times when his store burned down last March, but selling records like these ones on La Beat will surely help him to get back on track financially.

One of the most reliable sellers on ebay, and a fantastic guy as well. Would always stand up for him. It sure isn`t easy for him to sell these items out of his private collection which he needs to do just because of that **** fire which destroyed his shop.

To find a Lester Tipton in nearly unplayed condition is as rare as to walk into a Porsche shop and find there an untouched 356....

I had to wait and look 23 years for mine to finally come along and its not untouched (Lester that is not a 356).

I spoke to him last night about the smelling of Nothern Soul he says Hey! I have 140 people watching the record the most ever.

I guessed at 6500 but 7200 is even better.

doubt it. I can only remember one other recently (of course i don't go looking, so there may be lots more)... and that was from Shifty that he put on Ebay about 6 or 7 years ago. Not in such good condition as this one and it went for about $6k - a sort of 45 record, record, at the time on Ebay...so in the scheme of things - it hasn't risen in price much.....
