God yeah.....got that one thru ill gotten gains. ..swapped a couple of my original Fatback Band funky choons for this and others( Dont Pretend- The Belles) in the late 70s...with a mate whose mother had these records....still remember when she showed me em..and said" who would want these ".....erm ....Delxx

Been having a bit of a Betty Wright evening. So many tremendous tracks on all her albums, but I'd forgotten how mind-blowing her version of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" is: I'd go as far as to say that she makes the song her own. Also sounding absolutely awesome was her "Gimme Back My Man", a great Billy Kennedy composition from the Hard To Stop album.

Curtis & the Blues - Please Keep Me (?) - gave me goosebumps I can tell you. Will be doing the same this weekend with the old tapes so perhaps a few more to add.

I remember a time when it was not interesting to buy rare 45s or lps ... it was a magic moment when I used to walk to my record dealer downtown with a smile in my face cause I was excited to spend all my hard earned money on vinyls (nobody could understand this way of living)! we used to talk about records while chilling & drinking a cup of coffee in his shop. I digged & I bought some of these black gold nuggets (most of them were expensive - meanwhile they are cheapies), I went home & and started listening to my brand new records. I used to dance in my flat to johnnie taylor, curtis mayfield & loads more - and when some friends used to came over to visit me, I played my latest choons that I discovered...it was like a flu - my friends felt the same way after contaminating them with the love of music...and noone was interested in the price and rarity!!! we had a good time...still we have a good time

one of the most important choons of this time: David Ruffin - Walk Away From Love !!!

I also remember that I told my girlfriend (meanwhile nearly ex-wife ) you can do everything to me: hit me, bite me, blame me - but after all you have to buy me a record and I won't talk about our fights anymore and I will forgive you all your sins - and she did! twice...then it was too expensive to fight each other

these days when I listen to these kinda records my memories start livin' ... what a great side effect!!!

i have always liked alaina reeds,dont let me fall in love alone,on capitol,russ always bigged this up at wigan not a stomper but slow to middish tempo with great vocals imo,i still play the 45 quite a lot and i also play my old casino tape with russ playing the said tune from one of his spots around earlyish 1974/5

never went big in my days at all-nighters,i missed late wigan and the stafford era so did this tune ever go big,is it worth much?? not that i would ever sell it,

Matt Fox started this thread with an interesting idea and sound and i've been pondering a reply. When i looked at what i call my record album that holds singles, i have this thing which contain a bunch of recs like a stamp album thing type case, as opposed to a rec box, it holds 20 records, and i looked into it, Theres only 15 in there at the moment and i remembered that it has many of my favourite records but i have not heard for many years. I pulled and played the lot earlier tonight and like i said, the last time i probably played or heard them all must be about 3-4 years ago. I refer to these 15 as my all time faves NS as they generally aint had much (if any) action on the scene. Some have, and in my first 5 selections 2 were played, 3 i don't know about but i still love them.

Here are the 5 and they are in my favourite order.

Boss Four-Walking BY-Rim. A one time monster which still sends shivers down my spine.

Gary Edwads And The Embers-Sherry My Love-Fraternity. This is unknown and ignored cos its white. Came to me via a deal i did with Pete Lawson (RIP) and he (pete) knew i'd like it as it was just up my sreet dancewise forgetting the black/white politics.

Larry Henley-I'd be a Lyin-Hickory. He's part of the Newbeats at one time and going alone, no difference. Stompersville time. White.

Paul Real-Reason To Believe-Her-Man. Another that came from Pete, same as Janice Weaver, but oh so much soulful. Must be dead rare as little action on this ever. Walking pace NS and probably would fit Stafford playlist Beat Ballad play. Is it white?

Sheppards-Walkin-Okeh. Stomp stomp stomp.

Started with and ended with 2 very well known NS. In the middle its white NS. and a dunno. But to my ears and feet thats 5 NS tunes i love to bits that i havent listened to in a long time.
