I have to say inwardly I groan, but it's only five minutes out of a whole night at the end of the day.

Have to say though, I can't remember the last time I heard these two records out.

Means I must be going to the right venues :D

I'm with you Joan... though I don't inwardly groan, I'm much more likely to say rather loudly "jesus f*cking christ, what f*ckwit is playing this"

The last time I heard them played out was at a do in Essex a few years back that was going under the guise of a rare soul do.... We left by 11 :D

Both utter shit

I like the way you sugar coat it! :D

Thing is, it's different strokes for different folks isn't it? One mans junk is another mans treasure & all that jazz.

Why single those 2 records out anyway person who started the thread? :D

Probably something to do with the thread asking for values on these two.

Aaaaaah, i see.

Well, they'll always be people who love or hate most records-take Ray Pollards The Drifter for example, can't stand it! :D

Pete, have you just bought that book on ebay, perchance? :D

dont go to oldies nights then if you dont want to hear tunes similar to these you have obviously chosen as an example cos what else would you expect

btw, ive been trying to sell myt copies of these for fooking ages at a bloody cheap price too so if anyone is interested in these 2 shite tunes give me a shout

Am I bothered

Over played to some, classic to others.

I can think of a lot more that I never want to hear played out again, ever

For example, If thats what you wanted, or cause your mine, or Carstairs.

Just for once at an oldies do can we have Because of my heart, surprise party, he who picks a rose.

Or anything else

loved 'em both back in the early 80s but now.......

i still enjoy them in me car, great steering wheel tappers but somewhat of a waste of a 'window' that could be filled with something not so tried and tired when i'm out, if you get me meaning.

Both 30+ years old so they have to be classed as oldies.

Both classics so the place to hear them is a classic oldies night.

As for some of the overplayed comments why does a record get overplayed?

Simply because people like e'm & why do people like e'm?

Easy - Because they are bloody good records.

I absolutely love Alfie Davidson, Brilliant record which takes me straight to 1986, my last school disco's and attending my first scooter rally in Margate where I bought the SOS single and my first Paddy Smith...

Great memories..!!!

Was never that keen on Greg Perry, find it a bit boring really.

I, Nowadays, don't go to oldies venues, because, in some part, i was sick of hearing the same old "oldies"...(including, modern as above). And some of the others mentioned; frankie beverly...vibrations...carstairs.......etc.

If i do manage to get out, it's the Hideaway...moorlands/sureshot..middleton/back beat...and that's just about it. I have a young family and commitments other than that. I love "oldies", but, we all have our own taste i understand. This thread was born out of frustration of years of turture....to my ears!! and did you agree or disagree? I suppose, to me, those two records are the ringleaders of the overplayed.

I also feel Soul music lost its true feel at the arrival of "DISCO".

It's been fun, watching this thread continue in its debate....whilst i've had a few giggles along the way.

It's amazing that ssoooo many different opinions come from one simple word...SOUL... :P .

AND NOW!!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL YOU LIKE MINDED SOULS...AND THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKE DISCO

EVEN!!! tongue.gif I'VE HAD FUN THIS YEAR ON SOULSOURCE..SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ,OFFICIALLY CONNECTED.

YOU'RE DOING A FINE JOB AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE.!!

DOES SOULSOURCE HAVE AN END OF YEAR DO!! A SOUL NIGHT/NIGHTER SOMEWHERE...? AN OFFICIAL END OF YEAR DO WOULD BE A SPECIAL EVENT IN THE CALENDER!!

Perhaps you should find out what the music policy is before you go to a venue save yourself

some money & effort. sleep3.gif

You must be Joan

If you live round here, these two records are so typical of the element of the scene who just want to go out and hear/dance to the same familiar tunes that they heard last week, month , year........ad infinitum

Another in the same bracket is Home Is Where The Heart Is, plus alot more that I cant be bothered to list.

Personally I'd rather boil my bollocks in treacle than listen to this kind of stuff ph34r.gif

I've got to agree with a couple of posts on this, Greg Perry never liked it, Alfie Davison great song.

Are they oldies ? for me definitely NO, but I'm 50+ and don't associate them in that category.

Like Lenny says, in Scotland we have some pseudo Oldies clubs that will pack the floor when Alfie Davison is played but play something from 1962 and it's tumbleweed time !!

alan

greg perry is a bunch of arse but i've always liked alfie davidson and have never got fed up of it cos i don't freqent the type of clubs that play it .... i'd definitely say it was an oldie and the preserve of an oldies club

like em but only cos im avin a mid life crisis and they remind me of the scooter boy glory days of the 80s !!...or should that be scooter glory boy days.....anyway dont wanna hear em out now...time for a drink, piss, flick thru the sales, sugar level check or wotever :g: ....

...if i had to choose would be alfie over greg...but neither would get a look in my top 500...

loved 'em both back in the early 80s but now.......

Seem to recall Searling and/or Sam playing Alfie Davidson back then to shouts of "WTF is this new Modern Shite?".....

Now the calls seem to be "WTF is this overplayed Oldie Shite".......

Who says we haven't 'Moved On'?.... laugh.gif

I'm not familiar with either of these tunes smile.gif

Has anyone got a soundfile?

Thanks.
