Special Guests - 100 Club Northern Allnighter - Jan 28th

6TS are pleased to announce a return guest appearance from Ian Levine who has not graced our decks for 12 years (he informs me).

He has been bitten by the collecting bug again and has a host of new discoveries and rarely heard soul sounds that he is itching to share with like-minded souls.

Knowing his professional reputation, I had no hesitation in booking him to entertain and elucidate in equal measure.

Our second guest is Marcus Hjoberg one of our many younger regulars who like 75% of the crowd is a collector and DJ too. He comes to nearly every dance and knows our music inside out. He knows what makes a dancefloor tick as he is on it most of the night.

Then there's Butch, Keith and me. None of whom are retiring and one of whom has swung extra shore leave from his job drilling for whiskey in the North Sea.

I hope to see you down our hallowed stairs on the 28th

Ady

Where can I get one of these 'diswashers'?

www.thiabridesareus.com

Keeping on topic, great move Ady from a publicity stunt but he won't even be as good as Butch's last fart before he leaves the stage.

Would be nice to have current day ledgends discussed, although since half the people on here don't rate the best DJ the Northern scene has had (how many have actually heard!) I won't hold my breath, much to many peoples annoyance I suspect!

Ian Levine makes a DJ come back at the January 100 Club Nighter. Its been a while, but apparently Ian has been collecting again & has some unknowns & other things to share.

Love him or hate him Ian Levine is a Northern Soul Legend & he will be causing a stir on Oxford Street no doubt.........another packer for the 100 Club, but is Ian Levine relevant to todays NS scene ?, maybe we should wait to see what he plays on the night ?.

Discuss..........

then use the "submit news" procedure

otherwise we end up with every promoter, pub owner, and their three legged dog filling up this forum with event posts

Yes I thought that too, in which case he ought to say what he means, not that he's got a f*cking clue what I sold him seeing as it was a few thousand quids worth of stuff that had never been listed, from a previously untapped collection, but if you look carefully you'll notice Nev commenting or having a pop at practically everything I ever post anyway so I tend not to take a lot of notice of him to be honest.

don't really want to get into a discussion in this thread on past matters

however in fairness to the other two members mentioned would like to make it clear that il wasn't banned due to other members actions

he was thrown off this website for good after sending me an abusive/insulting/threatening email in reaction to a mod decision

if do wish to discus this further or want me to expand in any way then again ask do it via the feedback forum

He'll be crap. I've not heard his records, I've no idea what he has, but he'll be rubbish.

End of thread.

Do we have a 'tongue in cheek' smiley?

do you know who IAN LEVINE is he has discovered many great records we hear and play today' he is a legend .

did you ever go to highland room Blackpool where many great records was discovered by Ian.

you should not make judgement until you hear what he has to play.

IAN is a very knowledgeable guy 'knows writers producers and all the labels.

he may have drifted away from the northern scene but still knows the business inside out.

Just to say its Ian's return to the 100 after 12 years isn't it but He has dj'd elsewhere in between I am sure. Certain he dj'd in Essex within the last two years as I heard him there - Mick Love's do ? If its the start of other dj-ing spots, then can only add weight.

Anyway, will cause great interest and well done the 100.

Indeed Kev I remember it well :wicked: even though the sound system was shite

May take a trip down those hallowed stairs myself  its been a while :D

I will just say regardless of past opinions I would trust Adys judgement in booking Mr Levine , its going to be entertaining for sure.

I do feel sorry for him because many of you have such high expectations from the guy he is really going to have to pull one almighty rabbit , good luck to him for having the balls to face the wolves.

If there is one thing I admire about him its his bravery to keep entering what can be a bit of a snake pit at times.

It's a human jungle don't you think ?... I always punt for the under dog :g:

Would be interesting to hear Levines comments on Butch´s spot especially cover ups ? "know that, sold/had that" if anybody had the knowledge surely he would be up there amongst them.

One thing is for sure the scene benefited from his discoveries through the seventies and his left over collection through the eighties.

couple of Levines underplayed older sounds i personally never tire of

Ikettes-Watcha gonna do

Gino Parkes-Nerves of steel

Barbara Lynn-I don´t want a playboy

Love Shop-Tate

Well I have to say the last time I heard Butch play 3 full sets at Hip City it was just fantastic !!! Many top 60's /70's unknowns of the highest quality !!!! He pretty much gets a free hand which is great but at the same time knows when something is a bit too leftfield to come back with more tradional sounding gems !!! I am sure many of those tracks were also not known by Ian and co

Nobody can deny that Ian has played his part ,payed his dues etc ,is a legend ,but it's a bit embarrassing for Butch ,to try to compare the two these days .

I know he's on here and does'nt get caught up with all the hoo ha that goes on ,but why oh why even try to compare ?

Why not just let Ian play his spot at the 100 club , by all means judge him if you want to ,but on the basis of what he offers up and not his past credentials etc .

It's a decision made by Ady to put him on and it's generating a lot of interest ,so obviously a good bit of marketing ,so well done Ady

I look forward with interest to read /hear how it goes

Can someone make a note of what he plays on the night, be interest to see what unknowns (and if they are unknown) he has got in such a short space of time and how good they are. Love him or hate him, he is good for the scene, he has an imagination and he doesn't follow trends like most of the DJ's and he always gets people talking.

I will close this topic as per normal procedure regarding Events Articles in a day or so and you can then discuss Ian's return on the actual event topic.

The mighty Butch cannot be compared to levine.....back in the 70's it would be almost impossible NOT to find records...you could almost fall over tons of brill tunes,as levine did....Butch however has found countless brill records when they were fookin hard to find and still does,he has squirrelled away stuff years ago for playing at a later date....in short shear genius......one last thing to bare in mind.......levine never found any of Butch's discoveries when they were there to be found rather more easily......in short BUTCH discovers rare tunes that are good......levine had records posted to him...not really knowing the wheat from the chaff....tezza

Rather than waiting for playlists, folk should get down there & judge for themselves 'live'......its what we used to do innit, travel to hear the tunes ?.....dont forget Ady is still playing the relatively newly discovered second batch of RCA unissued sides too.....plus, the 100 Club is the only Nighter left that generates its own oldies, most a lot of folk have never heard outside the 100 Club.......

Not everyone can get everywhere every week Russ, I know I can't these days. Last 100 Club took a week to recover  We do have venues up here that weekend also.

There are also other venues and DJ's discovering new stuff you know

Yes I know mate, it wasnt aimed specifically at you Chalkie, I also appreciate that there are other venues, Radcliffe is one of my fave Nighters for example, it was more a general comment aimed at folk that sit at home, never go any where & trawl playlists, then comment without ever having experienced the Night in the flesh so to speak, whilst I appreciate some people may have very good reasons for not being able to get out, some do need to get off the sofa & get a more personal view from the dance floor as opposed to the sofa/keyboard. I think this 100 Club in particular is something that should be experienced first hand.......

ian levine was a vital, if not the vital cog in the northern soul wheel in the early to mid 70s and I think it's great he still has 'something to say' in terms of this music. his severest critics are going to sharpen their knives anyway, even if he does unveil some serious, hitherto unknown 45s on the night. would love to be there, but I'm climbing the financial january 'hill', sadly.
