THE AQUA: HEDNESFORD 1/02/2002
Thanks to Winston for passing on a review and playlists of the Aqua
Not having been to this venue before, but having heard so much about it from friends I felt really excited on the journey down. A couple of mates from St Ives rung up (Baz and Stuart) and said that they had spare seats and would I and Juliette like to go with them. We jumped at the chance and a couple of hours later we were on our way.
It took about two hours to get to the venue from
7th Annivesary of the South Cheshire Soul Clubs Winsford Allnighter
Yet another top drawer enjoyable nite.
This time was in South Chesire, Winsford way for a return to one of the regular top UK monthly niters ringed on the got to go calendar.
Saturdays niter at Winsford was the 7th Anniversary. .
Checked out the new warm up at the Grange pub, for a few quick pints, bit quiet, late bar extension, on decks while there, playing quality modern such as Al Green, but then went onto
Well this was a good local soul nite, extremely good I would say. Great sounds ranging from some well top rarities to classy well thought revivals, a 100+ crowd, many visitors, all seemed out to enjoy themselves, giving the place later on a great buzz, as always friendly sociable feel, were a fair few record boxes as well, and all to me made it one of the best nites have had there

Scotland? What a night - The place just rocked!!!.
Well done to Martin,Caroline and Lenny etc for starting off this event and providing Scotland with a club that is forward thinking in its music policy.
The crowd was well up for it and even the people from the Street loved it and danced happily next to hardcore Soulie
Well after seeing there was much going on last Saturday night in London, myself and Louise decided to travel a few miles the small town in Desborough in Northamptonshire to see what the soul night at the Ritz was like. we travelled up late on Saturday afternoon, after booking ourselves into the local travel lodge at weekend special rate (£25.00 if you book on a Saturday not bad) so we would not have to drive back and both could have a drink.
After having a few beers with the locals in this s

Sad news that soul star Hoagy Lands passed on last weekend.
May 4, 1936 – January 12, 2002
UK soul fans who were lucky enough, to have seen him performing last year, will am sure agree with me that he was a true Soul Artist.
Thoughts go out to all his family and friends.
Well trip back to Lowton this weekend, last one was at there was the North and South job last year which was the Capitol Soul Club gang delivering with the Northern boys a great nite of rare soul.
This one seemed going to be a bit different, billed as a "back to the old school nite" on the flyers and only on till 2am.

PAVILION, HUDDERSFIELD, SATURDAY JANUARY 12 2002
By Shirley Stewart
This is a slightly biased review as this venue is run by my better half, Colin Wood, with the help of the other resident DJs, John Purvis and Eddie Engel.
The venue has been running since last May every second Friday of every second month. Previous attendance’s had been disappointing so after the October date we decided to change the soul nite to a Saturday for 2002. Whether a Friday night had been the reason for

Well bit late with a report on this weekends going ons as was such a good one, it took me this long to get over it!
Not much petrol or jacking up lifts as all 4 events were on the North Wales Coast which made life a bit easier. Starting off with the Broughton Wings Soul Nite- just off the A55 close to the border at the old British Aerospace (cant remember current name) place, its held in the Social Club on site, this is to me is always a

How many Northern Soul fans does it take to change a light bulb? Two !
One to change it, the other to say it isnt as good as the original. An old joke, I know. But it does make the point that sometimes we dont appreciate what we have in our hands.
The C.S.C. has come in for its fair share of criticism in 2001. Thats inevitable I suppose, after the unqualified success of the previous 30 months or so, that soon

Well seems like was a definite weekend and a half if quality rare soul is your bag. Onwards and Upwards!

John Hosler was on next with things like "man from soul" and the great [need a copy] Tootsie Rollers "Give Me Love
Review - 100 Club Saturday by Irish Greg
The 100 Club All-nighter was one of the best Ive attended over the last year or so. The music was of a very high standard (even higher than normal) with Mick Smith spinning the newly discovered (Unreleased) version of Trick bag by CP LOVE and not Tommy Tate as some people are saying. Mick also spun the likes of The Inmates, Bobby Rich, Classics on Yang-G, Eric Lomax C/up, True-Image, Magnetics plus many more top raritys.

Review - Togetherness Modern Side By Dave Dixon
I went to Togetherness on Saturday and was really looking forward to it, especially considering the aggro I had getting prepared to be able to make the journey. I walked in about 11pm during Soul Sams spot and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didnt know a single record he played but it was fantastic rare modern soul including a Timeless Legend record I hadnt heard before. It seemed pretty quiet at this stage - no record dealers and bar was quiet too.

Heres the full story, big thanks to Dave for passing on Last night was the first promotion at Roar Nightclub in Bilston. And what a good night it turned out to be. Music was provided by John Pugh, Blue Max, Jordi, Gary Holyman, and the irrepressible Gavin Page (Who greet

Well what can I say aboout this place except superb. Great venue and the music is what I like to hear at a nighter (hardly an overplayed oldie insight).
The nearest I can compare this venue to is the 100 Club.

So I started a scene going there, and eventually it got to the point where we had all-nighters in Aberdeen, around 77, with about 800 people. And they wanted to hear what theyd been hearing at Wigan. So I had to get the tunes that were played there so you know, I remember going to The Mecca. And there was this record, Ron Holden, in this guys box for 7 pounds. And I remember thinking Shite! Thats a weeks wages for christs sake! And it was then! - I mu

George Jackson, Al's Bar, London. April 7th, 2001
One of the regular highlights of the month for Dawn and me is our visit to the George Jackson club at Al's Bar in Farringdon, so for Dawn to be invited to play a spot there as part of the April line-up made our last visit there a particularly special one.

Tonys - Blackburn -Sat 03 Feb 01
Beginning of the month , a bit of cash in my pocket so thought time to get back on the road, over last few months have been hearing a fair bit about Tonys new format, and as this weekend the niter featured Irish Greg, Dave Flynn, and Carl f all from the capitol soul club as guest djs, seemed like a good excuse to leave Chatham town and get up to north west. First time I've visited this night, so there was that extra degree of anticipation, on my journey. I arranged to meet a friend (Toby Cole) at London Bridge station, this has to do with both my intense dislike of walking and the fact its nice to go somewhere new with someone you know.
Due to some technical failure the train wasn't able to stop at the London Bridge, so I had to get off at the previous stop, Blackfriars. I rang Toby and top bloke that he is, he came and got me. Not the ideal s
