Absolutely gutted ...but also proud to say that he was a friend...someone who stood by his convictions ...a well read intelligent man who held his own in various discussions...didnt suffer fools at all...however was also very respectful....the scene has lost one of its strongest supporters ...but the loss to some of us ...is stronger....RIP hun....xxxx

Footsie was the factor for me....was totally blown away by what i saw on TOTP back in 75....prior to that was very much and still am into Philly and funk....also purchasing a copy of Jumping At The GoGo which i still have turned me from a fairweather into a die hard committed northern souler...xxx

For me it was watching TOTP in early 75 and seeing dancers like Jethro ...Steve Powell and others piqued my interest even though was in my early teens back then...was already into soul music...Philly being my particular fave style at that time ...also loved early funk etc...anyway watching TOTP as a matter of course....up...pops Footsie....from there on...soul wise for the next few years it totally changed admittedly at first it was the dancing which intrigued me...but when i really started taking a deep interest in the music ....oh my days!...it was like a cascade of sounds...my little cassette recorder couldnt keep up and nor could my purse!!!....Del xxx

You are right ...can remember Sharon kennedy from Nuneaton....being only 13 her mate Gaynor 15 when we went to Wigan 4th oldies ...was bricking it because i thought how the hell is She going to get in???...but she did!!!.....xxx

The best dance style is the one that starts from your heart to ya feet...ya feel it ya go for it..thankfully northern soul dancing hasnt yet reached that diluted stage like Salsa and the Hustle despite folk claiming that they can teach it...once that happens then all the individuality goes out of the window..... becomes boring and bland...look at the early Lindy Hoppers....when it was more free style...it was exciting and innovative..but once it became standard...it lost its gloss...Na the influences towards northern soul dancing is vast....long may it keep going..... Remember getting this..after a New Romantic mate of mine said..Ere Bird...there's Some Of That Northern Stuff You like in This Copy he was even more impressed when i name dropped and said OOOH Look My Mate Vern From Bradford Is In It...dont think i ever bought another copy..dunno why...cos i really liked the alternative club styles and music as well..Delxxxx

A lot of them are quite active on the scene....Wigan Young Souls etc.. do go to KH..and various soul dos....was at the filming at the King Georges Hall in August....and from the sheer effort and attention to detail....Elaine and others involved are making sure as possible to get it all spot on..with any groupings of folk...there will be a few who will stay on the scene...the young Black guy pictured -Femi was one of the first to sign up for the classes and his dance style is really very very close to Vernon Price from Bradford.....they really are a brill bunch of young folk..very enthusiatic to learn about the scene....am sure if they was to stay on it.. they would evolve their own styles eventually....i personally cant wait for it to come out ....Delxxxx

Music...is like oxygen...i need to breathe ...smell...luxirate in all of its glory...good or bad...i need to hear it....without it...i cant breathe....soul music....to me is essential to my being.....without it...i dont feel....i dont see....it walks with me ....side by side...every step.....its is there....i hear a forgone tune....it propels me back into that corridor of Past Times..where those whose roles was prominent for that scene of time are there..those who have passed...are there once more..and then that memory....from the head to the heart...ending with that tear down the cheek....allows ya to be there once again...feelling seeing....being....loving... Yep..that that is what music means to me...Delxxxxxx
