Tranells Blessed with a love

crikey! i remember when marriott used to play this ironically i never really liked it then nor now as it always reminds me of a gospel tune with all that handclappin and "im blessed" hookline its one of those rare records where i could think of dozens of ten quid records that are far superiorhuh.gif

i do get out locally ie poole dorset and even went over to the southampton alldayer last week but im afraid i just keep hearing the same old records and then bugger me ruby sodding andrews and hey presto the dance floors rammed! This track it seems has been big since time begun. Im sure there must be better records than that around at the mo.

still dont get the clue unless of course you mean the parisians which aint half badyes.gif

Nice oldie from the 90's , gotta be the top quote of the week Tony thumbsup.gif

One of Butch's 100 club spins covered as the Philadelphians, also an oldie of a similar time was the Mello Souls - We can make it covered as the Del Larks as I remember.

Now back to current spins what about the following

Arthur Willis - The hurting is over

Ascots - Few Feet From The Gutter

Chico, Barbara & Junior - Don't cry

Joseph Webster - My love is so strong (A revived oldie but a goodie)

Parliaments - This is my rainy day - another monster that's been hacking around for the last few years

Salt & Pepper - Man Of My Word

Sir Joe - Nobody beats my love

Willie Tee - You Gonna Pay Some Dues

Ray & The Blue Satins - She doesn't love me

I agree - I first heard the James Phelps version at Micky Powneys house in Birtley in 1975 and I remember being bowled over by it - I think Mick's still got his copy. It was great to hear the different takes getting plays out in the late 80's - it's a really great tune and I don't think there's a bad version but James Phelps is my favourite.

Cheers

Dee edwards why cant there be love

and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wsm2-9LnqVs

Because of the World Cup and the adverts. But the Dee Edwards is going for between £70 and £100 and not even that rare. Prefer Timebox version of Beggin on UK Deram than Frankie Valli. Neither classic Northern but love the Dee Edwards.(Bump shop or GM)

The Willie Tee is probably the "newest" biggie listed, it has been known about for some time but only played out really in recent times, Sir Joe getting the recognition it deserves and as Tony said Parliaments has been around for a few years now. The rest are practically oldies now.

Butch is playing some fabulous stuff at times, so is Andy Dyson, he played some great stuff in Notts last weekend. Butch's Four Perfections cover up one of his current biggies, Eddie Daniels reactivated by both Butch and Andy Dyson getting noticed once again, did it ever get any serious turntable action in the past?Just gonna go and listen to Alfie's selection.

I asked around about this just prior to it seeing action and the info i gleaned was its never received much attention at all due to rarity, although was weirdly booted. Glad its being played now as its a stonking 45

Sorry Tim, missed that post, not that I'm aware but then it wouldn't be a biggie, not had the chance.

Andy was on at the Sunday All-dayer Mick H put on at the Amici Bar. Next one August bank Holiday I think.

PS. Tranells/Philladelphians c/u was Keb first wasn't it? then onto Rob Marriott?

Hi Brian, love the Satin, but i think every version of this record is great, still always prefer Nate Evans & Buss, and think the unreleased Magnetics (ok it got a Grapevine release, but you know what i mean) are tremendous versions, Richie Havens is another brilliant version, but i can't for the life of me get that record.
