I love that thunderous bass-heavy instrumental on a Bell acetate that Carl Fortnum used to play out at the Dome...just says. 'Moods' on the label...a real big hall sound that would fit in the scene during any period...classic NSoul.

Always loved a good inst. but can't believe it's took 4 pages on this thread to mention Mike Vickers?Has to be up there along with "Harlem Rumble" as one of the best ever.Another one not mentioned yet is Guy's old "Lord Thunder(Blockbusters)-Kayos" C/U,great dancer.Come to think of it Guy's the one for this thread as he's always loved an inst.A lesser known one (well I don't know who it's by?) I've always loved is the inst version of Jean Wells-With My Love & What You've Got played by Andy Rix.

michigan move, guy old spin is without a doubt the best intro ever. can anyone offer any info about it? I read it was discovered  with a bunch of popcorn's tape's including the actual backing track to Edwin's Backstreet, I'll have that as the 2nd best intro ever.

Otherwise known as the Detroit Strings EMI disc.  Played around about the same time as Sweet Talking Guy inst. at Wigan.

a mid seventies (74/75) spin was 'new jack theme'- Centuries...it was a Sheffield exclusive i think in that i only ever heard it played by John Vincent..not even the Casino had it..very fast and furious i seem to remember it was covered as the Gladiators 'that Miami sound'..

 

Definitely played at the Casino at a similar time.Got it on an old tape.Didn`t know what it was called at that time.Mad,mad.mad.

You can pick it up fairly easily on a white label 45 with Barbara McNair on the other side.  Just as 'legal' as the emidisc.

It's pressed slightly too fast though, in fact all reissues on lp, cd and 45 that I'vr heard seem to be at like 48rpm

Seems that you are right Pete, I have found one which is for sale @15 quid. Managed to get an EMI disc Chiffons theme donkeys years ago.

Although having though about it, what about slowing down the pitch a notch?

I said the ones that came out on lp, single and cd were fast - if yours is an emi from the period, it's probably the right speed

Don't think its had a shout but THE PRODUCERS--LADY LADY LADY is one of my faves. It is the Instrumental to What Kind Of Lady-Dee Dee Sharp.As much as i love Dee Dee's stunning vocal these days i prefere dancing to the Producers.Can be found on the Huff Puff Label on the flip to this beauty.
