But you can buy it off discogs for less than £100... lol, I appreciate that's the promo copy though

missed a point

I don't think you are missing anything but two bidders seem to have lost their minds...lol

Yeah, I was pretty sure that the bidders on that could easily just go on over to discogs and pick up a NM copy of that version for 25 USD (or an issue for 5).

The Carolina Soul auctions seem to drive people to madness, I often see people paying top dollar or more for G copies of stuff in those auctions. Admittedly CS grades conservatively, but still.

^^ you are making the assumption they know what Discogs is, they probably don't

They should.

Well I have to admit to paying over the odds for some italo house tunes, in the early 2000's, before I was aware of the site. Having said that I would have never found most of them without the sellers advice.

I kinda referred to this phenomena back in February in relation to a few regular sellers on EBay.

You had dealings with CS ?  How conservative are his gradings ? A VG+ is M- ?

Just interested as I tend to ignore auctions unless VG++ or M-.

Thanks.

Comedy Sale of the Day

Records sold and records bought

Auctions held and bidding wars fought

Astounding what some mugs will pay

For the Comedy Sale of the Day.

A regular subject for much discourse

For many members of Soul Source

This daily event, let’s thank eBay

For the Comedy Sale of the Day.

Perfect condition, an absolute minter

With a label fresh off an inkjet printer

Don’t believe a word that the sellers say

About the Comedy Sale of the Day.

You’ve already bid above your max

With customs charges and Value Added Tax

And shipping costs from the US of A

You’ve won the Comedy Sale of the Day.

More snap, crackle and pop than a well-known cereal

The condition of the vinyl seems immaterial

Why list a record that doesn’t even play?

It’s the Comedy Sale of the Day.

Think it's a typo to be honest, rest of his stock looks right!

Someone obviously made him an offer he couldn`t refuse! 😁

Sorry if this has been posted before.

An optimistic one from Discogs, Marvin Gaye EP £1000:

https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/194984166

That’s funny, he thinks some writing on the sleeve which might possibly be Marvin’s autograph increases it’s value by £950...LOL!

I’ll let mine go for £275 plus free P+P if someone wants it .. and it’s Mint ..

ebay makes me appreciate the folks who've bought from me on discogs.

A VG+ reissue has sold for £81 on Discogs this year so he might get it.....   Madness.

(Love the production on the tune tho!)

I saw this recently

Spyder Turner I Cant Make It Anymore £100.00 SOLD

No mention of it being a Demo so it must be a straight issue.

Surely not, I don't even think JM could get that much for it.

Seen an issue sell on ebay last year for £92, Crazy prices

Fing abart eeeebay is......if sold at auction, it reflects demand.

You can't put a value on such a great record based on 1979 prices...

We've all paid a quid for it, but anybody hearing this first time would pay a ton for it no probs.

Ed

Great tune but it should be in the 'under £20' forum section. Why would you pay a ton when you can pick up an issue minter off discogs for £15??

How about somebody creating ' compare the Northern Soul original record price.com?

Auctions can make folks bid extreme prices, especially when you just got to have it!

Best one I saw was a Ricky Hatton fan who bid over £1000 for a pair of boxing gloves that should have been worn, but weren't worn against Mayweather.

He sobered up quickly when it comes to paying for them a hour later...

It wasn't on ebay mate. Set sale on a well known dealers list.
