There are so many, mine are...

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes - Bad Luck

Billy Paul - Bring The Family Back

Anthony White - Hey Baby

O'Jays - Backstabbers

"The Devil Made Me Do It" - Robert Upchurch

"The Whole Town's Talking" - Billy Paul

"If You Wanna Go Back" - Jean Carn

"Be For Real" - Remix - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes

Ian D biggrin.gif

Phyllis Hyman - Ain't you had enough love

Silk - I can't stop (turning you on)

Jones Girls - Nights over Egypt

Blimey. There's a question. Changes all the time but these have got to be up there.

The O'Jays "My Favourite Person"

Jean Carne "Was That All It Was"

Teddy Pendergrass "When Somebody Loves You Back"

Bill Paul "Bring The Family Back" (still a stone cold classic!)

Harold Melvin & Bluenotes "Bad Luck"

Yesterday I had the blues

I miss you

If you don't know me by know - Harold Melvin & Bluenotes

Days go by - Bobby Bennett

Regina

I lied - Bunny Sigler

Can't quit your love- Bobby Taylor

Forever- The Ebonies

Now that we've found love - O'jays

I like being a woman - Three Degrees - mainly because they did it live on the "Wheel tappers and shunters" TV show back in the day and the title makes me laugh.

The list is goes on and on but if I were to pick a favourite it would be "Somebody told me" Teddy Pendegass.

Regards Alan

The Ebonys "Im so glad im me / Do you like the way i love" # ZS7 3514 .

The best double sider you can get on Philly Int (imo)

Teddy Pendergrass - The More I get The More I Want

Anthony White - Hey Baby

Dexter Wansel - The Sweetest Pain

Jean Carn - Was That All It Was

Lou Rawls - See You When I Git There

Billy Paul - Only The Strong Survive

Phil

three great tracks there, i,d also add.............INTRUDERS-NICE GIRL LIKE YOU

O'JAYS-I LOVE MUSICthumbup.gif

ANTHONY WHITE -YES YOU NEED LOVE

BUNNY SIGLER-KEEP SMILIN

HAROLD MELVIN-WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS

TEDDY P- WHOLE TOWN LAUGHING

ARCHIE BELL-REAL GOOD FEELIN

"The Love I Lost" has got to be the all-time Philly corker, but the Intruders' "(Win, Place or Show) She's A Winner" always makes me smile, and I love all the Jean Carns mentioned above, plus "I Bet She Won't Love You Like I Do". smile.gif

And Webby, my favourite pasta shape is penne. You've got to give a passing nod to the classic spaghetti, but it just hasn't got the sauce-holding qualities of those lovely little tubes wink.gif

The Three Degrees - "I Didn't Know". Never gets old for me...

...of the label's many hits, I'd have to go for "Love Train" every time.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned McFadden & Whitehead "Ain't No Stopping Us Now". Well I can - it's super cheesy, but a big favourite of mine...

Released on the Sound of Philadelphia label circa 79-80,

More jazz/funk to my ears than a Northern Soul tune, but it's a good tune any way I think

MFSB

I would say for me McFadden and Whitehead - Ain't No Stopping Us Now followed by

Lou Rawls - See You When i Get There and The O'Jays - Love Train

So many great Jean Carn tracks... in addition to those mentioned there's also 'My Love Don't Come Easy'

Surprised no one's mentioned Philly Allstars - Let's Clean Up The Ghetto

But my favourite is Dee Dee Sharp Gamble - Touch My Life (why this isn't played out more i'll never know)

Always room for one more - McFadden and Whitehead

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes-I miss you (full version)

" " " " - Be for real ( full version)

" " " " -Concentrate on me

Bunny Sigler-Keep smilin

Anthony White-I could never repay your love

O,jays-Darlin darlin baby

Teddy Pendergrass-Whole towns laughing at me/ And if I had

Theres loads more such was the quantity and quality of the labels ( Phil Int and T.S.O,P,)

Kev

For me its got to be -

1.Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes - Bad luck

2.Ojays - I love Music

3.MFSB - Lets Clean Up The Ghetto

all awesome!

So many classics: maybe too many to list exhaustively. I'll nail my colours to the mast and re-iterate a point I've made ad-nauseum on here that The O'Jays "I Love Music" is simply one of the greatest and most influential pieces of commercial black music ever made. Last year I was fortunate enough to acquire Tom Moulton's remix from 1979 and can't recommend it highly enough.

Mention elsewhere of the Anthony White album prompted me to dig out my copy and play the organ-drenched slowie "Love Grows Strong". It made me think that he didn't record enough out-and-out ballads in his career as on this he gives Teddy P, Eddie Levert (or Marvin Junior for that matter) a run for their money. The quasi-gospel breakdown and ad-libbing on the fadeout are truly beautiful.

Harold Melvin "Don't leave me this way"

Teddy Pendergrass "Love Tko" and "The Whole Town's Laughing At Me"

Just about my fave label...i dont collect labels but if i did Phily int would be the one I`d collect...

All a matter of opinion but for me these are some of the best soul records ever...never mind the best on philly int.

Teddy Pendergrass- The more i get the more i want

Lou Rawls-You`ll never find

Jones girls-NIghts over Egypt

jean Carne-My love dont come easy

Chris

Really can't understand as to why they played Thelma AT Wigan but not Harold cos to me that was the best version! IMO!

The extended(12") of Don't leave me" is unbeatable the instrumental break is awesome, and the vocals, well say no more,

Remember the first time I heard Thelma at Wigan,I was a bit confused to say the least, but it's ok really,And yes I danced to it,On the second play about 45 minutes later,Maybe longer but my grey matter aint what it used to be,

Somebody mentioned The Jones Girls "Nights Over Egypt",I still play this in the car now a cool track

Grant

This is mine.

Brett F

Plus "East" by Billy Paul all 6 minutes 46 seconds of it.

Have the LP too and prefer that take( longer) , but havent done a scan of that.

Brett F

Two that do it for me are Dee Dee Sharp- Touch my life and The O'Jays great take on Jackie Moore's -This time baby

At the moment can't stop playing: Teddy Pendergrass- I just called to say.

StuH

TEDDY PENDERGRASS THE WHOLE TOWN'S LAUGHING AT ME

HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES TELL THE WORLD HOW I FEEL ABOUT 'CHA

TEDDY PENDERGRASS CLOSE THE DOOR

JEAN CARNE IF YOU WANNA GO BACK

JEAN CARNE THAT WAS ALL IT WAS

To name a few

JUST A FEW OF MY PERSONAL PHILLY FAVES

ANTHONY WHITE - STOP AND THINK IT OVER

FUTURES - AINT GOT TIME FOR NOTHING

JACKSONS - SHOW YOU THE WAY TO GO

BILLY PAUL - YOUR SONG

ATB BRI PINCH.

SUNDAY CHILLOUT, 16TH AUGUST, HORSE AND GROOM PUB, EAST LAITH GATE, DONCASTER.

Massive question!! How about posing something a tad easier to answer like "how do we secure lasting peace in the middle east" :)

Reminds me of Wakefield CSC a few weeks back, managed to spin a "PIR classics" dominated set and enjoyed every minute!......

3 off the top of my list.....Jean Carn absolutely phenomenal....

Some of my favs:

Stop & Think- The Trammps

Peoples Choice - Jam jam jam (All night long)

O,Jays - Let life flow

Harold melvin - Where are all my Freinds

But the best for me has to be O,Jays I love music - Lp version

This is almost impossible to pick favourites. Almost anything I've heard by Jean Carn, but will go for Jerry Butler's The Best Love I Ever Had.
