I dreamt of one in 1980

Sorry Benji I was kidding, hoped my smiley would have made that clear. Still I've always wondered why there isn't one? Can you imagine another couple of minutes after he really  starts singing ?

all quality.

I must say I have noticed a bit of  a death-knell musically as regards some of the choices in this thread, my opinion of course, re the term 'soul music' but each to their own ay?

Some have stretched it a bit for me if I'm honest - you know cos I know it all like.

Sam Butler- I can't get over. SRI

Some nice tunes Mark  - Groove Junkies always top value - got a fabulous mix cd of their stuff. Asaph had one of his tunes mixed in Nottingham I seem to recall, by the DIY crowd? Is it on that 12"?

And anything with Big Brooklyn Red is going to be worth a punt eh?

Don't think i've seen these yet

Ten Per Cent - Double Exposure

Keep on Doin' Whatcha Doin' - Ty Karim & George Griffin

The Hardest Part - Donald Albert

I Choose You - Paris

I Don't Want to See Myself - Terry Callier

'Smoke' Howard (vocalist on the Vince Montana Jr & Philly Sound Orch track) and Mark Evans (vocalist on the Ron Hall & Muthafunkaz track) -- posts #79 & 80  -- are both big mates with Kenny Hamber.

... thought a bit of NS related info was appropriate on this thread.

A few of my faves off the cuff

Demetrius - I'll Be There

Flip that Demetrius Bazza and you've got one of my all time fav 12's .........Tune!

"Essential 12"....!! Essential??? There is only 1...as a 'DJ'........and familiarity does breed contempt.......as i've forgot perhaps the biggest essential 12" i've had in me collection... since becoming a 'general DJ' in 1990ish.....and was just reminded of it when placing Happy Birthday comments to Chalky...........although I play me Robert Murphy version when I can....and spin the 7" of this version when neccesary....

I present...for perhaps the 1,000+ time....sigh.....the 'classic' and ESSENTIAL must have 12" record.....Happy Birthday.....by Stevie Wonder.....!x

Also I think someone already posted this but couldn't find it when I looked this time so here it is again - blinding 12 minute Walter Gibbons mix of Gladys Knight - It's a better than good time - get it on your headphones!

Cheers, Chris.

One of the greatest ever records for me, regardless of format:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b7om2cQC7U

Edited by son of stan

And both sides of this classic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZcbDESaxhY

(Supposedly actually mixed by Walter Gibbons, who got sacked for taking too long over it, Levan just came in and finished it off.. Or Something..)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CedRajyyJS8

Perhaps more in keeping with Soul Source. Not sure who the vocalist is, tearing it up Womack-style!

Here's one that I never see mentioned, great builder of a tune and cheap as chips! Bonus that its named after my favorite cryptozoological big dude in the woods :D

BIGFOOT - I APOLOGIZE

you're always a man of taste Chris, I'm still after tunes you put on tapes years ago, lol.

Queen Yahna - Ain't It Time (P&P)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuFp18cJq7w

You see, I think the best ones are those that came out when the format was just invented and did something brand new with the space, fidelity, volume it afforded.. Rather than just a longer version of something that could have come out on 7"or LP(good as all those can be) and before it became the default format for dance music...

One of the most exciting records ever for me. Just when you think she is done....

Queen Yahna - Ain't It Time (P&P)

Even though the picture shows the 12" it's the same recording as the 7" version. Both records state 5:00 but the actual song is only about 3:40

Can't find the album. Means I probably sold it   What a c*nt I am. I still have so much dross from my soulful dance days and it looks like I sold the goodies.

I'm not such a c*nt after all. Found the double album the other day. Fantastic tracks. Brought back many memories.

Get involved with Soul Source
