I have been trying to locate a song I used to hear around the Wigan area early 80s . It is definitely a Northern Soul classic/ derivative/ obscurity. It is an INSTRUMENTAL- very much a stomper/ handclap track and seems largely based on The Hesitations That’s What Love Is backing track or Eddie Parker I”m Gone.

Any clues?

Yes it was a big sound and first played as a instrumental, which is the flip side of the vocal. I can't remember anyone playing the vocal till a few years later after it was booted.

Justin Haywood wrote the track and it was a Moody Blues LP track.

Pal and the Prophets. Peace pipe. Jamie. Covered up as Luther Ingram Orch. ‘Space Odyssey’. Sounded great at the Casino, and the right tempo for those times lol.

Also, another 2 in the morning monster instrumental……proper!

Rumour has it , It's the Funk Brothers , playing away from home , cheap as chips , I've got a promo copy cheap as Fish & chips , but a brilliant instrumental non the less , can't recall it being played before 76 , that's when I went further a field , like lots off others until 81

Yeah Tony it was. I still love it, but to many now its a joke, and an absolute no no to play. It worked superbly though in that huge ballroom.

Tim I'd stopped going to the Casino when this was being played so I can only imagine the effect on the dancefloor. Some of these instrumentals you had to be there to get it. I still have a soft spot for Fathers Angels "Bok to Bach".

Another early Mecca Spin, instrumental to Spiral Staircase

 

An absolute Monster at the Torch and now largely forgotten. To me it just explodes excitement. Lots of "northern" very little "soul".
