My first spot was the first week of October, but Russ has always maintained I did two diferent spots a month apart, not just one. If this date in November is correct, you may have just proved this. I remember because it was my old mate Dave Ellson 1st night at the Casino. He did a tape on the night, i don,t know if he has still got it? Dave. The general ethos of the scene is the Underdog syndrome,whether it be 60's or modern. We all like to think we're the first to acknowledge a record,to hear it for what it is,to lift it from obscurity,to make it our own. Is the scene not built on records that sold f -all.? Recorded by artists who generally made nothing out of their talent. I don't like being told ,"this is soul,buy it". ps- no need to vent you anger on me in your "bold" font. It all depends when you joined the SCENE as the majority of records played first on the Scene were by established artist who did make a good living out of their music (Geno Washington, Jimmy James, Impressions, O'Jays, Motown Acts, Stax acts etc and even some of the BIG bombers out there, went on to earn a living in the Music industry, generally any artist that had multiple releases must have had varying degrees of success in some capacity or else they wouldn't have got the chance to record again and again. Some of these obscure artist had careers of ten+ years, so of course they made a living from it, they may have been third or fourth division but that doesn't mean they didn't pay the rent out of the work, no one does anything for nothing, they may have had high hopes of reaching big time, but we all don't get there, it's a fact of life. By your account, the northern/rare soul scene needs to Burn any record that sold more than 100 copies and shoot any DJ who plays one. Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

I was an early member on the original Soul Source but got banned in December 2000. It was all over a derisory comment about Billy Ocean as I remember. I founded A.N.S. on January 2nd 2001, and it's still going and thriving to this day. Small and compact but thriving and a hive of interesting postings.
