This shite aint around much to my eyes thank fook...

I remember at Prestatyn weekenders, this tack was growing by the year like an out of control river of shite...

Also popping up in more and more adverts on the net... Remember that t-shirt company who had the same name as my club night  , people were contacting me for t shirts saying " i'm Mod for it", " johnsons talc, its a soul thing "  ..

Not sure if its around many other weekenders or soul events????/ i never see it..

I AGREE, HARDLY ANYONE SELLING T-SHIRTS ETC, AND LOADS OF PEOPLE SELLING RECORDS,

THE LAST ONE WAS THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE, WERE THEY CHARGING TOO MUCH FOR TABLES OR PEOPLE JUST NOT BUYING RECORDS ANYMORE ???.

JOE.

what sad lives some of you have ,

sometimes wonder how some folk manage to get through life constantly dissing what other people do when it has no bearing on their own inadeuate existance .

real deal nighters ffs :hatsoff2:

Keeping it simple, real deal = venue playing new discoveries, underplayed, selected oldies; looking forward not backwards; clubs like lifeline, new century, 100 club etc as opposed to DJs playing boots, playlist of the same 100 records, wrapped in the nostalgia, fancy dress, stalls selling 'keep the faith' tee cosies etc.

As for your other comments not really worth a response other than grow up you daft old tart :)

Is it not the responsibility of the Punters. As Coops said a little earlier, if we didn't buy it then it would not be economically viable for the Vendors to attend with their Merchandise. We ourselves ( or you yourselves ) are just perpetuating it by pandering to their whims. Ignore them and walk past, unless its someones Birthday and that card looks good, isn't that a picture of their fav record ?? We have all been there. If it offends your eyes then don't look They don't force it into your hand. !!

Like the idea of the Brid Boys, a seperate area so if you want something you have to visit them.

'exploit?

an emotive word , but could apply to many aspects within the scene , promoters who put another quid or two on the door tariff , dealers (of records) who bump up the price of the latest in-demand record... dj,s who get paid substantial amounts for 1 hours work and arrive 15 minutes before they are due on and then go on to play tunes that have been played previously on the night ,

I've reached a bit of a stumbling block here as I was having some nice tasteful tshirts made they were going to be screen printed and ltd to ten each with frankford/wayne , bell sound , A1 Studio sound and virtue to start off with. They wouldn't have been cheap but they would have lasted but I tried to contact the relevent studios to get permission and never heared anything back so if I'd have gone ahead with these without permission what reflection and regard would this have had ? regards Simon.

am not coy just dont want to cause embarresment lol

It would take more than that to embarrass me. I'm hardly bootlegging it for profit or even trade on so not quite what we are discussing here is it? If Mr Bradley has a problem I'm sure he will be in touch.

If you were to turn the scans into 'works of art', ie, do something original with respect to how they were presented, but do it in an artist/creative way, then it is highly unlikely that you would be in breach of copyright and so would not run the risk of being sued.

If you were sufficiently creative, you would then have something artistically unique that in turn would be automatically protected by copyright law as what you had made could be considered to be a derivative work.

Here's a passage from a Wikipedia page about derivatives and copyright...

For copyright protection to attach to a later, allegedly derivative work, it must display some originality of its own. It cannot be a rote, uncreative variation on the earlier, underlying work. The latter work must contain sufficient new expression, over and above that embodied in the earlier work for the latter work to satisfy copyright law's requirement of originality.

Oh, it is exceptionally unlikely that any copyright owner would waste their time suing anyone on a forum, or elsewhere in the internet, because they'd used a protected image in or as an avatar.

The context in which copyright infringement takes places is the guiding force behind nearly all judgely decisions. One of the prime motivating factors for a copyright owner suing is loss of earnings - or the earnings that the infringer is making through the illegal use of the copyrighted work.

As no one here is using an avatar image for commercial gain, there would be no point (and nothing to gain) in suing. It just wouldn't be worth the effort.

All images and works are copyrighted and where possible permission sought to use.

I would have thought so by default the photographers in most cases

As far as I'm aware Rob copyright is attached as soon as the photo is taken, or any other work laid down by whatever method. Neither do you need to register it, just prove it is yours.

although i've said on here that the merchandise at soul venues is tacky (records not included) and unnecessary I might actually wear a record label or studio t-shirt. These are actually a bit different IMO.

I've thouhgt about having the man from the quinvy logo on a t-shirt as an example or the elephant from tuska. Something another soul fan out and about may recognise without being to tacky.

If i ever went to a venue with merchandice for sale, i would blame no one but myself for getting it so wrong, and not doing the home work as to what type of night this was going to be. Were supposed to be an underground scene for gods sake, remember when it was all so cool to go to a Northern night, what a joke weve become.

no-one is compelled to buy or even look at whatever is for sale , irrespective of the merits of the items on offer,

seems like just another pop at people who want to make money out of the scene ,

It certainly is on my part, the comercialisation of a once underground scene deserves to mocked. Its all a load of garbage, generally the people who buy it aint got a clue, go make money somewhere else.

certainly a fair portion of it is as you described, the new bingo, I dont know about matured, regressed more like, to its most comercial phase in the mid 70's perhaps. It doesnt mean that we have to accept it though, I'm sure there were plenty pissed with it then, like I and others are now. I think really the problems come when its intrusive, in a lobby or foyer area around the entrance to a weekender is reasonable but inside a room where people are tring to dance and enjoy an atmoshere its totally inappropriate for me.
