Chris Turnbull
Brilliant thanks Mike James Phelps for me, first heard Butch play it on Yarmouth w/e radio early 1991 and still the best and most soulful IMO. Always found John Edwards version a bit lightweight though his voice is great. Others similar but inferior to JP, though Satin a good effort 1 Link to comment Social source share
Scootboy
All the versions are great but the Satin's version works better for me,I like the absence of backing vocals, 1 Link to comment Social source share
John Siret
John Edwards Satin James Phelps Nate Evans Magnetics . In this order for me. Link to comment Social source share
Mal C
Mine are near to Johns with small swap at the top. James Phelps voice is sooo good, but I don’t think it comes through on this song... btw, the white label demo of satin on the clip, mines a blue demo, never seen a white one, it that legit, ie not had a bit of photoshoping? The Yank
I think I'll go with James Phelps with Satin in a very close second place. Link to comment Social source share
Twoshoes
Satin for me, like Scootboy I prefer the absence of the LaLa's in the backing, anyone tell me which was the original release and why the Satin one is titled differently and why the variations on writing credits other than Floyd Smith. 1 Link to comment Social source share

Soulman58
John Edwards by a long way for me. Love his vocal and the overall production knocks the others into touch. Link to comment Social source share
manus
James Phelps for me first heard this at Mickey Powney's house in Birtley around 1975/76 and thought it was brilliant and then was very pleased hear it and the other ( all good) versions being spun late 80s. 1 Link to comment Social source share
