  • Struggled to see the actual point/reason  for this show, i mean the BBC can't afford to shell out for TV licenses for pensioners but they can afford to pay for Stuart Maconie and camera and sound man

He epitomised Wigan Casino for me.

The other djs spread themselves around more.

Only went a couple of times, so it would be unfair to judge one way or another.

I'd be surprised if anything new gets revealed to all the other programmes made about it. YOU NEVER KNOW!

Thanks for the heads up. Russ is a top man in my books. Stuart Maconie is excellent value. Both Wigan men, I’d expect them to do justice to the subject.

Seen this before .... it's comedy genius ... love it!  Who did it?  I seem to remember there were others going around at the same time.

The show is about the photos Francesco Mellina took at the last night, not sure which last night. It retraces some of those who are in the photos I believe.  Russ probably does what he normally does and take all the credit.

Waiting for it to appear on iplayer.

I went to all of the "last" nights, but don't really want to watch Russ's embelished views on it all.

Not all Russ, Richard on it too

So - is this going to be shown on a Northern TV spot after the One Show .. looking through the guide here it’s “Inside out London” at 7.30pm Monday ..

Got to persuade the other half to move back up to Chip butty territory .

I think it's a segment on that Inside Out programme, here it seems to be called "Inside Out West Midlands", I think they add a few local stories. This is from Richard Searling's Facebook.

Was that the first last night when we were all ripped off for tickets or one of the umpteen other last nights that followed. 👺👺

Me too , I'd like to see these photos, might even be on one .

Notice they actually say "one of the last" in Richard's post although the potential book is called "Last Night", so how many "last" nights were there??

Definitely the last one mate.

Think I went both venues on the Oct date as they where only a few hundred yards away from each other .

Cheers for that list Chalky, I must have missed out there, I went to The Final oldies nighter, then the end of an Era nighter, then two more .I cant remember dates.  Remember the place being even scruffier than usual at the last two I went to, cant remember if M's was open, probably not and the numbers were down.

Tint on in Yorkshire!

You have to have BBC1 HD, nationally that shows the North West version. I've got it in Birmingham. Not promising yet though - guess which song they played?!?!

I've still got a black and white telly! Mmm do I love you?

Yep, but it was only the trailer bit, they may get a bit more adventurous when the main segment comes on?!

Got to say that it was basically old footage re-worked but not cringe worthy in anyway.

One question  . What was the venue at the end of the clip ?

Super fast!

No doubt jogged a few memories for a lot of folks.

So many years on, it gets less and less relevant in the big picture of northern soul.

At least it got a plaque!

Have a Guess !!!! 😁

Was Dickie having a dig?, ie saying it's even now played at Weddings. 🤔 🤣

Such a shame Russ has to always mention 'that' Record every time someone sticks a microphone in front of him. Station Rd was so much more than that.

Think it was Newtown Ste.

Just watched it nothing new really good list Karl I was at the end of an era night but can remember feeling  cheated when other nights followed ! The place should of had one last night end of and then we all should of moved on !

The thing that often saddens me the most when I look back is not only the romantic view of the dancers that was a very small part of it in my experience but also you rarely get a view on how much the music really meant to the punters that visited weekly ?

For every 3 before eight there was a George Kirby Moses Dillard Billy Hambric etc but still Frank Wilson etc etc !  Such a good time for many had been sanitised mis represented and twisted to gringe worthy proportions for the benefit of the few and that is not what the place represented !

Baz. So true my friend.  It also made us the people who we are now for better or worse.   And was the start of many friendships that are still going strong now and a love for this music that has never died

Maybe a lookalikey mocked up for the clip? Nevertheless, a seriously important disc back in the day and of course, a big spin at the finale. Enjoyed the whole segment.
