The Dell Larks Job opening

So many, but heres trio from me, throw them up in the air and see how they land, matters not to me, they all make the hairs on the back up of my neck stand up…… phwoar

JJ Barnes - Please let me in

Syl Johnson - Do you know what love is

Brand New - 1000 years

Make it a quartet…. 😂

Gwen Owens - Wanted and needed

Wow, reminds me that an essential and most distinctive part of any northern track is the intro

I am pretty sure if my memory is still 90% working , It was a Blackpool Mecca spin , but possibly a reduced intro , maybe someone else knows better , sounds like a Colin Curtis sound to me

I agree with Dave, Tony Clarke Landslide takes some beating but Mitch Rider Breakout & The Invitations Skiing in the snow are pretty good and The Tempests Someday is like a call out for everybody to pile onto the dancefloor

Definitely a Mecca spin, I had the Chicago version but I thought the version they played was different than that.

I think it was Ian Levine that played it.

Someone has kindly reminded me of the other version, is was by "Copper n' Brass " for me the less soulful version but it too got spins , with a much less run in , I can see why it would've been the preferred version .

Going to be a bit different.

Ramona Collins  you've been cheating.. the long intro version.. the 1st time I heard it I was thinking what the hell is this.. now when I hear it I get the tingling as I know what is coming

Some great choices; a few that get me buzzin:

Steve Karmen - Breakaway

Tee Fletcher- Happy loving you

Johnny Sayles - l can’t get enough

Eugene Gaspard- Holding on

The Construction, Frank Beverly ITWYW, Blanche Carter, The Jades though is my number one

From a perspective of 45's played on the northern/ rare soul dance scene, the two which had me the most capyivated on that first hearing had to be -

Harold Melvin 'Get out'

Melvin Moore 'All of a sudden'

Opening lines on both are lyrical genius IMO.

Betty Wright  where is the love

Had to laugh Still diggin,  Harold Melvin especially "Get out" is the opposite of what i think the posters thread question was😆, Both great songs though🙂

Natural Four - I thought you were mine ABC Version

Definitely a minefield of choice, after all these years the most instant call to arms to these ears is The Twans - I can"t see him again.

No prisoners at that opening.

Paul
