Looking back, we've touched on sorrowful days,
Future disappears.

EW&F/ That's the Way of the World

It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die

'cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky

Then I go to my brother, and I say ... brother help me please

But he winds up knocking me ... back down on my knees

Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

Don't know if this has been done.

John and the Weirdest.

"Here I sit here in this lonesome room,

With nothing but the smell of sweet perfume"

"One silk stocking lying on the chair,

A yellow ribbon that you wore in your hair"

"The same old dish you used to do,

Just lying on the table top for two,

One single helping lying on the floor,

A lonely little doggy crying at the door"

Young Brothers

"Put your hand in mine and come on"

"There's a hole in daddy's arm, where all the money goes"

or

"Sam Stone was alone when he popped his last balloon, climbing walls

while sitting in a chair."

Both from    Swamp Dogg - Sam Stone on Cream, the whole song is lyrically excellent.

Don't know if this has been done.

I'm pretty sure the John and the Weirdest lyrics are as follows:

"A sink full of dishes you used to do

Dust lying on a table top for two

One single hairpin lying on the floor

A lonely little doggy crying at the door"

Don't know if this has been done but what about the whole of Two For The Price Of One by Williams & Watson...

Always cracks me up

"Sweet shazam a puff of Cadillac smoke, he's just an old love bandit!"

what a pair of love gods!!!!  :D

I once put some Mel Britt lyrics on that were wrong so I took extra care with this one as they are debatable, two other's agreed with my assumption but who knows. I think my version flows better - carries the story along.

At least we agree on the little doggy bit

I don't care if she wobbles like a duck

Or talks with a lisp

I'd still think I was in luck

If her dollar bills are crisp

(in fact most lines from 'First I Look At The Purse' )

And from "Too Late" ...

"Don't need no woman to help me starve to death"

If I get the notion, I'll take a drink from the ocean, whisky talking.

Love all the lyrics of Mr Bojangles - and Nina is Queen.

"He danced for those at minstrel shows and county fairs throughout the south
He spoke with tears of 15 years of how his dog and him but just travelled all about
His dog up and died, he up and died, and after 20 years he still grieves
Mr Bojangles, Mr Bojangles, dance.

Simply beautiful.

Unlucky or what?

I was raised an only child

My folks died when I was four

They were trapped in a fire

Way up on the fourteenth floor

So my loving Granny raised me

Till' I reached the age of ten

But the good Lord took her too

and left my dog just (Jeff?) my only friend

Oh baby

Seems like the odds are against me

Nothing works out right for me

I've lost everything I've ever loved

and Honey Now I'm losing you

So all my love I gave to Jeff

Cos he was all I had right then

But the wheels of an automobile

Brought his life to a tragic end

etc etc

David Ruffin - I've lost everything I've ever loved

Kev

Commodores - Don't you be worried

'Put your hands together - Come on -  yeah - Stomp your feet to the floor and to the music - come on'

Bang on for the Northern Scene!

Give me, give me all the love you got, I don't want it cold or look-warm, baby make it hot!

Sheila Ferguson - And in return

TOO LATE- WILLIAMS AND WATSON. top tune, you beat me to that one, my favourite bit is

"dont need know woman to help me starve to death-"

really good thread this one

can you dig it...

There'll be 15 minutes of kissing
Then you'll holler "please don't stop"
There'll be 15 minutes of teasing,

15 minutes of squeezing
And 15 minutes of blowing my top

You spoke to me as sharp as any knife

Why do you bring such misery to my life

- Gene Toones...What More Do You Want

My friends all tell me you,re  the cheatin kind,    If only i,d look , a better girl i,d find , they cant recognise my vital signs , the more I try to forget you , the more you remain on my mind ....,

Does the sun wait for you to open up your eyes before peeping thru your window - Sean Oliver you and I

I know you know I know you noticed me.

From the same song that Ted mentioned above.

One of the best lines ever! ZZ Hill-Gimme Gimme-Kent, "I can't throw out dishwater baby without throwin' it in your face".

He must really like her!

I offered my girl, rubies and pearls,

I even offered her, the latest in furs, yeh yeh, yeh yeh,

but all she wanted, was a pizza pie man!

:)

"The Black man will never be denied"

At night when I'm very lonely,

My love is looking for you only,

there's no barricade my love can evade,

there's no shelter it can't raid.

Johnny Sayles  - My Love's A Monster

I Picked her up in a local bar

We kissed and hugged in the back seat of my car

I quit before things, things got out of hand

Didn't wanna hurt my girl who loved and trusted her man

If I'm lying, someone cut off my hand

If I'm lying, strike me down as a man

I hardly touched, touched that evil girl

To lose my bride to be will surely end my world

It's blackmail, that's all, that's all it is

For me it's the aforementioned 'With one grain of salt...; Soul Bros Inc

And 'You said your heart, was always at my command'; Towanda Barnes - You Don't Mean It.
