It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die

'cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky

Then I go to my brother, and I say ... brother help me please

But he winds up knocking me ... back down on my knees

Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

Don't know if this has been done.

John and the Weirdest.

"Here I sit here in this lonesome room,

With nothing but the smell of sweet perfume"

"One silk stocking lying on the chair,

A yellow ribbon that you wore in your hair"

"The same old dish you used to do,

Just lying on the table top for two,

One single helping lying on the floor,

A lonely little doggy crying at the door"

Young Brothers

"Put your hand in mine and come on"

"There's a hole in daddy's arm, where all the money goes"

or

"Sam Stone was alone when he popped his last balloon, climbing walls

while sitting in a chair."

Both from    Swamp Dogg - Sam Stone on Cream, the whole song is lyrically excellent.

I'm pretty sure the John and the Weirdest lyrics are as follows:

"A sink full of dishes you used to do

Dust lying on a table top for two

One single hairpin lying on the floor

A lonely little doggy crying at the door"

Always cracks me up

"Sweet shazam a puff of Cadillac smoke, he's just an old love bandit!"

I once put some Mel Britt lyrics on that were wrong so I took extra care with this one as they are debatable, two other's agreed with my assumption but who knows. I think my version flows better - carries the story along.

At least we agree on the little doggy bit

Love all the lyrics of Mr Bojangles - and Nina is Queen.

"He danced for those at minstrel shows and county fairs throughout the south
He spoke with tears of 15 years of how his dog and him but just travelled all about
His dog up and died, he up and died, and after 20 years he still grieves
Mr Bojangles, Mr Bojangles, dance.

Simply beautiful.

Unlucky or what?

I was raised an only child

My folks died when I was four

They were trapped in a fire

Way up on the fourteenth floor

So my loving Granny raised me

Till' I reached the age of ten

But the good Lord took her too

and left my dog just (Jeff?) my only friend

Oh baby

Seems like the odds are against me

Nothing works out right for me

I've lost everything I've ever loved

and Honey Now I'm losing you

So all my love I gave to Jeff

Cos he was all I had right then

But the wheels of an automobile

Brought his life to a tragic end

etc etc

David Ruffin - I've lost everything I've ever loved

I Picked her up in a local bar

We kissed and hugged in the back seat of my car

I quit before things, things got out of hand

Didn't wanna hurt my girl who loved and trusted her man

If I'm lying, someone cut off my hand

If I'm lying, strike me down as a man

I hardly touched, touched that evil girl

To lose my bride to be will surely end my world

It's blackmail, that's all, that's all it is

For me it's the aforementioned 'With one grain of salt...; Soul Bros Inc

And 'You said your heart, was always at my command'; Towanda Barnes - You Don't Mean It.
