I don't think that much to the overall song, but the intro to The Ambers "I Love You Baby" is my fave intro to a NS tune.

Yours?

Only one for me that has been with me before the term Northern Soul even existed Kev

  • Agree  I will add...

  • Listening to this always made me feel I was being ordered to get on the dance floor.

Not my favourite intro , but as soon as you hear those trumpets , you know that for the next 2mins and 35 secs it's a dancers dream !

This topic has been covered before and quite a few contributions?

Would've said Potion of Love has a much better intro myself. Dx

For  me it's "big intros".................

Know what you mean. I usually use the search facility field to see if a certain topic has been posted previously.

Lou Rawls - Dead End Street. Perfection in opening up a record to burst into organismic perfection

Have a glance over some of my posts and I blunder about all over treading on toes and trying to teach my grandmas how to suck eggs, and I'm not so new

On topic I'm another that would put Ambers Potion Of Love right up amongst them. In fact the whole record is just superb.

Its got to be "Open the door to your Heart" Darrel Banks. Gets me every time and that's after 50 years of listening to it countless times. Wish I could think of something more original!

For me, I prefer Doni Burdicks' version on the grounds that the brass in the intro is sharper, the vocal isn't quite as good as DB but the intro is better imo.

For pure in yer face kick ass excitement it's gotta be hard to beat Edwins' 'Time', intro is almost identical to the start of the theme tune to 'Enter the dragon'.

There's so many great intros in Northern it's hard to pick a 'best', Shirley Ellis is pretty good, Magic night is epic, Flame n King intro is pretty good, I'm going to reserve judgement on what I think is the best one...

Two very simple and short intros

Giving that let's dance feeling

Check them out

Nolan Porter       If I Could only be sure

Clarence Carter   Messing with my mind

For me you can't beat hide nor hair, earl grant .tremendous intro great old stomper 🎶🎶👌

How about "Sweether Than The Day Before" - the Valentinos, or "Going To A Go Go" - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. There's so many.......

All these tunes back to back would have the floor packed all night at every event

I go way back, any 60s Stax or Atlanic  come to mind guys

I'm 68 still living for the weekend and traveling all over the country

As they say ' It will never be over for me'

Just some of my favourite intros...

Magic Night-If You and I Had Never Met

Buddy Miles & California Raisins-What Does It Take

Majestics-I Love Her So Much It Hurts Me

Soul Bros Inc-Pyramid

I could go on but that's what springs to mind

Joe Hicks - Don't It Make You Feel Funky

Frank Beverly - If That's What You Wanted.

Ted Taylor - Somebody's Always-

Barbara Lynn - I'm A Good Woman

Delrays Inc - Destination Unknown

I love a distinctive or dramatic into. It doesn't hurt to revisit this type of thread as new members join and also tastes change over time:thumbsup:

Well done

Yes Bell Records, I'd almost forgotten

When That Beatin' Rhythm was first played it was the epitome of our sound.

Great spoken intro followed by the Mirwood Beat. What a combination!

The Superlatives only needed three notes to inspire dancers to run, leap, dive onto the floor....

Listening to this always made me feel I was being ordered to get on the dance floor.

Marva Lee - If you cant be true - Atco

Professionals....that's why I love you....a little biased as its my favourite record....herb ward fab too.....mello souls is a mental intro and mad rare, proper run to the dance floor....kind regards....Rob

on the sweeter side Elements of Peace Together pt. 2.  This one does it for me every time it kicks off

It's a thin line the persuaders if we're talking sweet  love it

Linda Jones : I Just can't live my life  (without you babe) .

Great intro and an even greater singer.

Joe Hicks - Don't it make you feel funky

Bobby treetop - wait til I get to know ya

George Blackwell - lose my head.

More recently - Rudy Love  - wrath.

Tidy bassline

Cracking intro on this mid 1970's spin  Hosanna - Hipit   :hatsoff2:

Patti & The Emblems "I'm gonna love you a long long time" does it for me. Class floor filler if I ever heard one!

One or two bars & the floor was packed.

Extra info, which probably no required!

Nice  intro on the Devonnes - I'm Gonna Pick Up My Toys before the vocals kick in. :hatsoff2:

Recently bought this one. Awesome intro with heavy drums kicking in

i thought this would be the obvious one but not mentioned yet - not so much a 'call to the floor' more a 'command that cannot be disobeyed'
