"Your Love" is great, I love the chanking guitars. IMO "No One" is the better side for me.

I'm pretty sure it was not the same copy being resold, the first copy was even more trashed and went for like $4400 to one of the new york collectors that is on here, if I remember correctly

couldn't remember how bad it was, just that it was bad. Looked on t'ebay for a past link but couldn't find one.

In fact it was up three times, first one , second one (really bad shape) via Brad from detroit which did not sell, third copy (same?) again via Brad which sold. Isn`t Bucth also giving this a spin here and there ? I am sure I have heard that tune by different DJ`s already.

I only knew of two copies before the 2 or 3 on ebay, one on Tim's auctiuon and another a mate bought recently. Not heard Butch spin it, mind you not been out for a good few weeks until Cleethorpes

I DJed with Brad at the Ann Arbor Soul Club last weekend, and he played that Ravins. It may have been trashed, but it sounded great blasting out of the club speakers....and the 200 people slam dancing to it seemed to approve as well!

Dave Hamilton is the business....gospel, funk, jazz, soul, weird poetry records......dude did it all and did it all well.

Yes up 3 times recently, involved 2 actual copies in similar condition, the 1st is indeed now living in NYC, then Brad went a bit opportunist and listed one with an even higher buy-it-now than the 1st finished at, no takers on that so he relisted it again at a low starting bid and cheekycarlie just won it.

will it be making an appearance in refosoul i'd like to hear a clip from both sides. The 2nd auction (I think) had an auction player but I couldn;t get it to work.

rarity probably that has stopped it being heard. I only knew of couple of copies till the few recently.....there could have been others of course but never heard it out before Andy really.

Been watching the last 3 ebay listings with interest, now more people have taken an interest, there's sure to be more surfacing

Regarding the ravins 45 i've known about it for a lot of years ,initially martin koppel but never had a sniff of it i got it around 6 years ago.it's funny cos i spoke to gilly about it in passing he'd never seen it or for that matter ever really looked for it even when he met dave hamilton and became good friends with him,other records were on the agenda ie james lately,tobi lark's etc.. tunes that were invogue at the time.i know he told me he left stuff at dave's (am sure if he'd seen the ravins there he'd have picked it up) so pretty sure it's a very hard record but more importantly a fabulous throwback 100 mile per hour dancer of the hey day years at their best !

browny only picked it up recently contrary to his light hearted jibes at me in manifesto stating he'd put me onto it.. can't help but like him...

And of course it was Gilly who put Kent on to the whole Dave Hamilton deal. However check with Gillly again as I'm sure the copy we scanned was his via Chris Ashby.

I don't know anything about the group other than the fact i was told the possible reason its so scarce as the group name was a typing error and should have said the Ravens.

The Ravins must have been a dead rare record, because I never came across it in any of the big Detroit collectors' collections, nor in my monthly bi-weekly record-hunting trips to Detroit during the mid-to-late 60s, nor in all my years of record hunting (starting to specialise in Chicago and Detroit R&B/Soul in about 1960.  I flipped through literally millions of 45s during 1960-1995, and some thousands after that, and never saw it, other than a few scans after 2000.  I'd bet it never got any radio play, and at BEST it only got hand-delivered to a few record shops in Metro Detroit (maybe not even that).

The tape boxes suggest the proper group name is Ravens and that the "I" is a misspelling by Dave Hamilton

Simon Hunt had one years ago I’m sure he told me in the mid 90’s or before he sold it and recently bought one back from Europe 

As to the spelling of the group's name.  If it is true that it was really The Ravens - that makes me wonder if it could then have been an outgrowth of the 1963 Detroit group on Mike Hanks' MAH's Records, The Royal Ravens.  Jimmy Ricks' Ravens had broken up, with Ricks going solo in the mid 1950s, and later forming The Raves.  So, the name "Ravens" was available in 1963, and the Detroit group was, apparently, the only one using it.  The gap between them, and Dave Hamilton's Ravins/Ravens would have only been a couple years.  They may have still been intact as a local Detroit group, doing local club gigs.  Too bad so many of the old-time Detroiters, who were teenagers or older during 1963-1967, to whom we once had access, are now gone.  I'll see if I can get ahold of a few, and ask them about the group and whether the record ever made it to shops and the radio.

  I think it might not be easy tracking down who was in the group. Both sides are on you tube and even  Manship  commented that after they 45 they "instantly ghost like disappeared as if they never existed".

As far as i know i had the first copy of this 45 in 1988 from Dave Hamiltons house, i only bought it as i like the slow side. To me the slower side sounds black in voice, or he has a very good voice in black sounding. My copy went to Chris Ashby, don't remember what year though, he has recently sold it to Steve Green. 

I doubt it's the Royal Ravens as Robbk suggests. Both sides of the record lack a backing group, so I would guess it's just a band name. Also, the record came out in 1969, so there was plenty of time between to two to forget about the other Ravens. 

Fwiw, members of Dave's family were selling off what was left in his house to different shops in Detroit in 2016-2019. I agree that there is no possible connection between the 2 groups.  Upon listening to both sides of the Ravins' record again, I've come to the conclusion that the singer is Caucasian, and the name of the group is for the instrumental band, with one band singer included in their ensamble.  1963 all the way to 1969 is way too far, in any case.

RoFran is Roger Francisco's label. ( more accurately Roger was owner chief eng' at the studio. It is possible the label was someone else's)

Is that 400 miles from Detroit somewhere in Ohio?  I also seem to remember a Ravins record on a turquoise Frank Brown , Michigan label (probably recorded in Detroit (Maybe Dearborn Records - I don't think it was MSK), from about late 1966 or 1967).  THAT one was always the one I thought of was the hot Northern record.  But now it seems that it was only the Demo Ristic record that was played on the scene.
