You know what its like: late at night after a few drinks too many and probably a row with your partner. You reach for your favourite sad record to wallow in and play very loud.

Maybe a bit of Walter Jackson or Luther Ingram or BB Kings the Thrill is gone if its really bad. Just recently been hammering William Bells LP this is where I live. But for the depths of despair I go for something by Little Anthony like hurt so bad.

Of course it doesnt make you feel any better for very long

Only found this recently trawling YouTube , thankfully haven't had cause to wallow in someone else's misery since I met my wonderful fiancé though there were many times  prior to that when this would have got a spin

One of my desert island discs is the criminally underrated "Then came you" by Dionne Warwick, produced by Jerry Ragovoy. The whole album boasts great production and good songs, including this:

 

This sits in the middle of three absolutely wonderful tracks on side A of the album of the same name by Bobby Womack. Many hours spent with this in contemplation:

 

Jazz pianist McCoy Tyner's 1982 LP "Looking out" featured a few tracks with Phyllis on lead vocals, and this track in particular gets me every time ... great vocals, great musicianship:

 

Wrist slasher par excellence.

I dont think i have heard a sadder song than when i turned over Masters of Soul - Do you really love me to see what the flip was like...   I've only played it a few times and then usually have to take it off before the end, its too much...  but if you haven't heard it before do play it right thro' at least the once (there are lots of versions of this song of course but i dont think any come over like this one)..

this must surely be his best release.....?

Gonna be one of those nights....again....

...I play it EVERY time I dj at party's.....and used to at my Soul Nights in the 90's........to myself.....whilst packing away with the lights on.....since I added it to my collection in '93!x I was prepared.....!x
