Wow £563 for liz verdi, there is or was a copy sitting on Darren browns site for a while at £250.00.

Great double sider and rarer with picture sleeve.

Larry Santos. The lunatics really have taken over the asylum.  🤔 Much prefer the issue and its probably the  rarest version ... On discogs for £500 .

but i have to say the cavaliers 45,xxxxxxxxxxxxhat is the worst record ive ever heard! The guitar is out of tune,it sounds like a practise run but they said xxxxxx it that'll do! I dont know whats worse the fact some clown has paid 911 quid for it,or the group for releasing an appaulling song on a astonishingly bad recording session! All the band must have been pissed or on something! Bad is to kinda word for that record!

Agreed. Really only a £500 record, but a jolly fine one.

The language is terrible. Larry Santos and Cavaliers should start with capitals. It should read ‘practice’ with a ‘c’ as it’s a noun, the verb being spelled with a ‘s’. Funk has a ‘n’ in it. Don’t should have an apostrophe in it, as should ‘what’s’. Appalling has no ‘u’ in it. There should be an ‘’an’ before astonishing as this starts with a vowel. The ‘to’ in the last sentence should read ‘too’. Apart from that, I enjoyed the thrust of your point.

The language is indeed terrible, but so is your assessment of that language, grammar and syntax. I give you a generous three out of 10 for editorial effort.

At the same, and more relevant to the thread's subject matter - and I aim this at all the vehement critics, judges and decision-makers of what is supposedly good or bad – I'm a firm believer that one person's meat is another's poison. What some may like, others might not - and vice versa.

The tracks from the Cavaliers, while not appealing to some (like anything in life, we all have our preferences), I'm of the view that the tunes represent a recorded moment in history - a historic moment of a group that had hopes and dreams and aspirations of going further with their musical careers. I respect that.

And I'm in awe that more than half a century later such recordings not only still exist, but have surfaced in the public domain where they can be appreciated for what they are - artefacts of a golden era of music; one where, for every Billboard chart success - however great or small - we know the greater majority of groups and singers never even made it that far, thus ending their youthful ambitions of stardom and recognition.

Again, I respect the two tracks cut by that group called The Cavaliers, because they are a part of the musical tapestry we've woven our own hopes and dreams into since we were first made slaves of this whole broad church of Afro-American music. The tunes might not be your style, but I say appreciate and understand them for what they are.

I thought Joey ' wake up etc'  was way over priced at £ 2.80  although cereal addicts would probably pay three quid for the morning happy tune. Obviously soul fans would be just be going bed listening to Walter Jackson, cheers

Haha. The Cavaliers has the virtue of being a rare and obscure artifact. The Joey Delorenzo not only sucks, not only isn't soul or even remotely soulful, but isn't even all that rare. Rare-ish, I guess: eight say they have it on Discogs.

The Cavaliers track dissapointment is more about it could have been so much better with a bit more effort i think.

Joey D......Great singalonga tune......proper northern soul nonsense. Love it!

Big, big spin at The Dome 15-20 years ago. I reckon if I found the dead stock, I could knock them out slowly at £1,000 at first then £500, £300 etc. It’s a real dancer that builds and builds.

It was big before the Dome, Kenny Burrell.  I was at the Dome, it was sh*te then and it still is.

For me it peaked at 'The Ritz' Manchester - That bouncing floor just suited it (Along with my amazing foot work)

Hmm... Freddie Chavez I always loved. The 6 sides of his 3 Look 45's even. Although none equally. 

Joey Delorenzo I never liked. Influenced by Freddie Chavez !? I never thought to hear it that way...

There are similarities in 'sound'. True... But that's all I hear in common between these two artists.

I was with the dancers as well - but not for Joey D, poor disco record not an ounce of soul in it, I think Kenny only played it for a bet ... I asked him if this was the case, he never denied it 😉 .

Joey Delorenzo is not my favourite record and not a great vocal, but it is a good dancer with a interesting production that works in a venue played loud.

There have always been records that please the dance floor, more than the purist soul aficionado.

But I think that's part of the tapestry of Northern Soul!  It's varied with a lot of different styles. That's what keeps it interesting.  

It is a balance between the dancer, who just wants to have a good exciting dance, and the good quality DJ who wants to get good quality tunes accepted.

As long as it's liked and accepted on the Northern Soul allnighter dancefloor, it should be played. 

It's a democracy and the dancefloor is where the votes are cast!!

It's the build up blurb that I like as John builds up every 45 version that he has to sell / auction as the one to have , either due to rarity of version or overall rarity and the divergence from what really happened back in 1972. Always takes me back to Levine ranting ' F***ing lies, He was never there' - true or false who really knows - what I do know is that Chubby Checker was a play at my club the Fantasia in Quorn before even I started DJ'ing there in Aug 1971 - Former Wheel /  Night Owl regular and record collector / DJ Kev Hall had all the Chubby Checker sounds from Discotheque / Everything's Wrong / You just don't Know and it was this that inspired me to hunt one down when it broke as a massive sound at the Cats. - Took me @ 3 weeks - £5 - std price for good rare sounds that were being played back then - odd one at £10 and even less ( single figures ) at £15. Don't believe any of the crap about £40 + being paid for sounds. I never played it when I was rostered to DJ with Kev as it was accepted that it was one of his exclusives at our club. 

Even in late '72 when I sold my copy of Sam & Kitty to Hector and Swifty from Selecta disc at the Torch - again  a sound never played there unless Levine was on as a guest - it was so rare - this was the copy that made JM fall back down the stairs as they played it as he left the cellar  - achieved the previously unheard of price of £22 cash - left them with no money and the Valentines - Breakaway - so £27 total value. So £892 for CC is a big leap but it is a proper sound and it is 50+ yrs since it 1st broke cover. 

As for Joey D - awful - but so was The Shakers / Human Beinz etc but we always took on board and embraced the fact that it may not be Soul but it definitely was Northern Soul to coin a phrase. The dancers had the final say in a lot of cases My dancers at the Fantasia certainly had the hump when I sold Sam & Kitty and weren't backwards in letting me know about it. I had the chance of a real Joey D recently but couldn't see a place for it in any spot of mine and despite being relatively cheap I didn't fancy it hanging around as I tried to re-sell it.
