Nobheads at events.

Is it just me or has anybody else been slightly bemused by the behaviour at some events. From grown men totally ignoring the bar queue at Blackpool to idiots not intrested in the music just anyone in a skirt. Soul dos are my chill time and these activities are leaving me anything but chilled.

thankfully the places I go to don't have that kind of hassle, just folks there for the music, dancing and laughs

I'm not sure what we expect nowadays....we are not in some secret underground musical subculture.......no I mean it,,,,we're not !! that boat sailed in 71-74...for all intents and purposes we go to 'old folks discos' and disco behaviour (whatever that is lol) can be expected......do you not see lots of elderly people gurning/pouting grasping a drink having photos taken (presumably to show folks what a great time they're having) ...I'm assuming this is 'disco behaviour' ...it's easier to cope with once we realise it is what it is ....

Much of that is true but certainly seems post lockdown people' are behaving differently.  I can cope with most things but queue jumpers bring a dark side out in me.🤨

Oh dont get me wrong it this 'disco behaviour' is bloody infuriating ......it pissed me off at 30.....really really riles at 60 . Its become a sorta mob mentality...a phrase that we use is.. they need to be 'seen on the 'scene' Scene is a 'loose' word but will suffice. Being quiet and unobtrusive in a dark corner listening and enjoying  rarely heard soul music.....is not summat to brag about to ya chums !!!

I disagree.

Once Wigan finished in 1981 a mass of people left the Northern scene. It was left to the dedicated and hardcore Northern soul people to carry on with allnighters in a semi secret underground subculture for nearly 20 years, all through the 80's and 90's. Then came the internet and all those people that had left, realised it was all still going on and they all came back in droves. Also a lot of newcomers became aware of the scene through the internet and  wanted to come and be dj's and put on soul nights in the spare room of there local pub to do it. The internet caused it to be all commercialised again!

The demise of the ‘pub scene ‘ as had its input too , boozers and losers have used the northern scene for a long time now .

The ball bags that walk or knock into you when you're dancing and don't acknowledge or apologize. Txxts. Especially when they're playing up to their mates giving the LOOK AT ME IM A NORTHERN SOUL DANCER. No you are not and you definitely never were.  Sorry

I'm going to my safe place now.

A couple of points that I find helps .

1) We are all a lot older now ( into our sixties) and as such have less tolerance of aggro/ignorance that spoils our night out.  Me, I just generally guide them firmly but pleasantly away from me with a "you dance there mate and I dance over here and we will both have a good night", its my favoured routine for the Kings H Lol.

2)  Realise that the Nob heads don`t actually know how ignorant/stupid they look ,usually it`s too much drink and the ones that do... actually believe they are doing great and fitting in well, attempting  their silly routine`s of disco dancing with pathetic high kick and even worse... back flop!. IF only they could see a you tube video of just how stupid they look they would probably be too embarrassed to continue, Lol.

Finally they are in the minority, thankfully... and I sometime find it amuses me when taking a breather ( as they usually favour the mid tempo sloppy stuff for their routine) sitting watching just thinking too myself " Mate if only you knew, twenty years ago the guy you just bumped into could have sparked you out and just carried on dancing"

So just enjoy yourselves safe in the knowledge that if it wasn`t for the nob heads we would have nothing to gripe about! Roll on Oct 2nd.

Sad to read that committed followers have been put off attending established events. Maybe it’s partly a post-Covid thing with Brits behaving badly? Perhaps the scene is now so mainstream and high-profile, events automatically attract local ‘handbaggers’. When the tribe wore the uniform, you were safe - now anything goes, so the security people can’t spot the divvies like the old-school bouncer could. Promoters should sell advance-tickets, limit numbers, early entry only, hire crack security and tongue in cheek, tell dubious characters they should have filled in a soul music questionnaire online before turning up.

Knob head or nobhead ...that is the question!

I doubt anybody under 50 even uses that fantastic derogatory term these days!

Ed

Semantics, semantics... It’s knobhead with a silent K. Some may prefer dickhead but why split hairs? We’re talking pratts here.  Maybe spoilsports in some walks of life, but out and out morons, tossers, scumbags, etc etc. The original post raises the serious point of why individuals are spoiling soul fans’ nights out, and these low-life deserve to be branded nobheads so the  Mods on here don’t have to issue warnings (to the over 50’s) for using the extreme terminology that could apply.

They are Steve. I've always loved how what we love is loved by all sorts of people from all walks of life, whatever their standing in society or creed colour or age. But kheads are still kheads.

X to you both.       Hugh

I think having been to quite a lot of nighters /soul doos/aldayers etc etc, from the early days to last week ,you have to be selective with your ear to the ground with a venue you like.from the days of barb heads at Wigan drifting round and yes being a dick head ,to getting chatted up by men and women who won't leave you alone ,this happened to us at Caister weekender great Yarmouth, absolute pain in the ass

I’m afraid we are all Doomed, These Knobheads are all over the place, They are like Traffic Cones  with arms , legs, and heads with nothing inside except a selfish reason to upset and steal happiness from good happy people who just want a good time.
I propose to form a Soul Ninja posse , choice of deterrent Blow pipes with poison darts, a silent but deadly solution for these Happiness stealer Knobheads, all you would hear is tccccch and they would drop like flies , whoever is near shouts somebody,s  fainted here get them out , Word will quickly spread and they will hopefully go back to normal life where they can torment one another away from our World of Music and Pleasure, LO, L,

Stay Safe

A well known major promotor arguing/winding up a customer on a public forum REALLY????

Possibly not the best way to promote your product.

Oh and just for the record....... I am a regular and  BIG fan of the Kings H event, so am a little gob smacked to say the least

Back to the thread......

Two mates run a NS classics and Motown event and advertised as such.....its does what it says on the tin...Classics all the way.

This comes straight from my mate .....

Last time round mate 1 was at the decks and a woman came up asking "are you going to play northern soul all day?" . "What do you want ?" says mate 1. Woman says "can you play some 80's club dance classics ?". Errrr.......

A 'Facebook reviewer' who clearly has no idea about NS but feels she can criticise anyway, says afterwards that the DJ's were "self obsessed playing obscure tunes". Mate 2 posts back a reply with his playlist which are all Top 50 Classics and says "which of these is obscure to you?".

Second review on Facebook states that they played tracks by "The Bangles". It left both of them totally and utterly bewildered.😜

As said above the oldies type venues seem to be dragging in the curious who have no idea about NS and those who think they know something but probably came back to the scene post lockdown after 50 years away.

FFS 🤪🤬
