What about Eula Cooper - Let Our Love (Super Sound)?

P

...And everyone must read Pete S's posts!

Eula Cooper is about as common as me .....and I make Ena Sharples look like a posh bird

 It's essentially a Soul Galore record - even though it says Super Sound. Same as Rita Da Costa.

None of them are really rare, although I suppose some like The Inticers and Fabulous Jades are a tad less common as they weren't as popular as stuff like Four Perfections and Jimmy Mack.

how about Saundra Edwards - True Fine Boy (Bari) ... lifted from the Motown reference acetate, that Alan Pollard now owns.

As I recall these were pressed in Detroit and only a handful were brought back to the UK. The rest of the copies were never shipped over and have probably been skipped.

Does anybody have one ?

As regards the Kenny Smith on Goldspot they are all real. When I spoke to Kenny about this many years ago he confirmed that Simon purchased all of his remaining stock. Kenny owned the label

The Bari thing isn't rare Andy, there were hundreds pressed, before Pep closed his shop he had a boxful of them.

There was more than one 45 on Bari .. all Motown band tracks ... the first one which I think was something like 'All the time' by the Soul Brothers was shipped over in bulk but I really didn't think the Saundra Edwards made it across the water

None of the above are rare Grant, especially Eddie Foster, there's about 4 different boots of it. Some are harder to find, like the Kelly garrett, but still couldn't be classed as rare. Cobblestone never got booted.

Volumes - Gotta Give Her Love - Astra

Des Parker

Hi Des, if you are refferring to the 6ts Astra out of Pittsburgh its not a boot but a legiut second release or re-release just like most of the (interestig) stuffthat was put out on Astra such as Count Ferrell and teh Monorays to name jus two. Many titles that became popular in the region thru heavy rotation on the radio were re-released on Astra.

Marc, yes and no.

Yes, many titles were issued on Astra due to demand in the Pittsburgh area (label was owned by a local DJ as far as I remember).

No, Astra wasn't a legit re-release label, many (if not all) releases were bootlegs. I once read a small article about Astra, probably on soulfuldetroit.com

What about The Del Larks on skyblue and black label boot ? Who was P.B. John ? Thanks ,Eddie

Eddie,

I have never found out who P.B. is or was. Simon Soussan used him for his counterfeits...maybe Ian Dewhirst will know, he was around L.A. in that period.

Del-Larks - Sky Blue label was pressed in New York same plant as all the counterfeits with that tell-tale ridge-ring on the label. ie. Epitome of Sound, Timothy Wilson, Dave Newman, Anderson Bros etc.etc. But Kev Roberts told me the Del-Larks on sky-blue is really a 2nd. issue. But I don't think the 45 carries any rare 2nd. press kudos because of the counterfeits from the same source taints it.

The Edward Hamilton - Mary Jane colour label without the Nashville Matrix I have an inconclusive scan now, many thanks to WAZZ, and he's bringing it for me to have a look at. The matrix didn't match up with the bootleg I have in stock, but I now suspect the white & black bootleg was pressed twice as the one I noticed the one i have is very flimsey vinyl and appears to be a bootleg of the bootleg...

The Sugar Pie Honey Bunch on Brainstorm is extremely RARE! I thought it was "tailor-made" Northern Soul if anyone knows who the real artist is, please let me know.

Another extremely rare bootleg is Phil Flowers - Discontented - DOT demo press in GREEN vinyl. It resembles Daly City Bobs work, maybe done for Belgium or Holland for the flip i presume..any definitive info on this bootleg would be most welcome.. as I've only ever had this one copy.

Kinnell, I just put a scan of it up, this one was bought in a collection at the weekend, it certainly is on flexible vinyl and I'd guess it came years after the black and white label one.

Brilliant! can you email me or phone me the matrix details.. do you suspect it's a more recent bootleg?

PS Can I buy it, it's missing from my collection, or if anyone else has one..

You can buy it, but it's Mick Smith who's selling it - he's already put it on ebay - link below

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:EF:GB:1123

or he'll probably set sale it if you ask him

The sugar pie honey bunch thing is by bobby vee, and is an lp track (also on the lp is a version of let nobody love you) the other side is an lp track by the nashville guitars, both tracks bloody horrid by the way, must have been done in the derby notts area as we all had a copy back in the day, but anyone from further out had never seen or heard of it, would love a copy for nostalgia sake

It's the 'Do What You Gotta Do' album on Liberty.

Just like John Manship, I too collect bootlegs and have a good collection of them in a box, seperate from my originals.

Personally, I don't think any of these 70'S (mainly) boots are particularly easy to get nowadays:

EDDIE PARKER - I'M GONE (AWAKE)

DEL LARKS - JOB OPENING (QUEEN CITY blue/white)

NEW WANDERERS - LET ME RENDER MY SERVICE/AINT GONNA DO YOU NO HARM (READY)

HESITATIONS - I'M NOT BUILT THAT WAY / PUSH A LITTLE HARDER (L.P only track) (KAPP)

CAROLE WALLER - STOP AND GET A HOLD OF MYSELF / THIS LOVE OF MIND (USA)

BILL LUCAS - CAUSE I KNOW YOU'RE MINE (DIONN)

MAGICIANS - SWEET MAGIC / CONNIE (CHARTMAKER)

ROSE BATTISTE - I MISS MY BABY / HIT & RUN (REVILOT grey)

TONY GALLA - IN LOVE (SWAN first boot yellow with black lettering)

MAGNETICS - HEART YOU'RE MADE OF STONE / LADY IN GREEN (BONNIE)

BOBBY MAC - SHY GUY (VENDED)

GWEN OWENS - WANTED AND NEEDED (VELGO)

BERNARD WILLIAMS - IT'S NEEDLESS TO SAY /FOCUSED ON YOU (HARTHON)

LENNY CURTIS - NOTHING CAN HELP YOU NOW (END styrene b&w label...super quality)

ALEXANDER PATTEN - A LIL LOVIN' SOMETIMES (CAPITOL)

JOHN & WIERDEST - CANT GET OVER.../NO TIME (TIE no date stamp)

BILLY PROPHET - WHAT CAN I DO (SUE)

DETROIT SOUL - ALL OF MY LIFE (MUSIC TOWN)

GARY HAINES - KEEP ON GOING (SOUND)

DICKIE WONDER- NOBODY KNOWS (SOUND OF SOUL)

If you put that lot on ebay, and be honest with their origin, I reckon you'd come away with a nice wedge.

You would, but again, none are 'rare' - they are just collectable. Dickie Wonder - I didn't even know it had been booted

A couple of years ago had 2 copies of "Roy Hamilton - Let The Music Play" on Adey C's "Kent" label. These were large centre hole, black & white labels, 4 Diamonds design, even with Kent address - I assume they weren't legal, but haven't seen any copies since, anyone shed any light.

Here you go Pete, got it from Norwich record fair about 4 years ago. Not cheap really, blank flip, no markings in the wax:

post-4912-1239356086_thumb.jpg

I bought a Dickie Wonder from an online shop in Norwich, on the second label, they said it was a ressiue - charged me £10 - I sold it for £150. I've never seen that one of yours before - I think that might possibly be a real one!

Cheers Andy. That wraps up the mystery of why Simon had 'em then. I think out of the three records I ordered from him at the time, the Prince George and Kenny Smith

were actually originals and the George Blackwell was a very convincing boot........

I dunno either. Simon kept his modus operandi very close to his chest. I just know he'd be down @ Monarch every other week picking up his 'legal reissues'. I think PB was either a 'front' company or possibly even the guy who mastered the records..........?

"Just like John Manship, I too collect bootlegs and have a good collection of them in a box, seperate from my originals." are they going to escape ? Will they try and corupt your originals?

Still a great thread, I think its something we all took for granted that bootlegs were around.

Now as we get older and to be honest there are items we are NEVER going to own, the hunt is on for the missing bootlegs !

keep em coming

No US or UK 45 issue for this track... it came off a UK cheapo budget 'Top Of The Pops' type LP.

Cover features a picture of a Discotheque, with suitably attired 'chick' on the cover.

The Val Palmer track was on an album called "Tamla hits" on UK Redifusion - I used to have it

But Ian Levine used to play it at the Mecca and I am sure it was a US 45 he was playing - even though it was a UK album they were all US recordings

Val Palmer is listed in JM's book as a US 45
