Magnificent Montague - Burn Burn Burn - A new book

Magnificent Montague - Burn Burn Burn - A new book

When rioters in Watts, California, began shouting "Burn, Baby! BURN!" in the turmoil of 1965, they were echoing the most popular cry on rhythm-and-blues radio: The trademark of Magnificent Montague, the most exciting R&B disc jockey ever to stroll through Soulsville. In Los Angeles on KGFJ, and earlier in New York on WWRL, Montague yelled "Burn!" whenever he was playing a record that moved him. His listeners followed suit, calling Montague and shouting "Burn!" on the air. The emotion in tha

The Barbara Lynn Story Written by Dave Rimmer the DJ and editor of Soulful Kinda Music, where article such as this are the norm (see fanzine section for ordering info)   For somebody born in Texas (Beaumont, January 16 1942) Barbara Lynn Ozen's recording career was very cosmopolitan. Review of New Century Wigan Anniversary Niter by Wendy

It was hard to know what to expect of NCSCs 31st Wigan Anniversary All-Niter. How could it possibly compete with the shenanigans of the 100 Clubs 25th Party? i mean whens the last time you saw a grown man almost choke himself on a giant silver no. 2 balloon whilst swinging a microphone stand like an entrant to a freddie mercury karaoke competition. Or seen youngsters scamping about with freaky teeth masks or seen so many punters drunk as skittles & happy as hell? And how could NCSC hope

25th Anniversary at The 100 Club Review by Matt Bolton

Posted up originally in the forum - if you havent read it yet - just do it now! . Its review time again! Hope you can get through it..... It was Roy Castle who reminded us that Dedication was what you need. Dean Parrish that it was Determination. Displaying infinite measures of the two, the 100 Club hosts the longest running allnighter in the world. Not suprising then, that this marathon dance fest celebrating 25 years of soul should be one of the longest. We all thought Ady was heigh

Still Tops after 50 years

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Levi & the Four Tops, the only Motown recording group that has stayed together for more than half a century. This date will also be remembered as a momentous occasion for Black History Month. The Four Tops grabbed fans with their trademark harmonies, and well-groomed presence, but they made an achievement that no group has ever done; up until 1997, they were the only group to maintain the same line-up for 43 years.
