Often think about the Mods, well retro mods and how they have sort of adopted the northern scene, which is ok I guess, but have been at northern events and have heard them complain there is not enough R+B being played and they don't know the tracks, when such things as United four was being played !

Completely horrendous indeed! The uneducated, ignorant, naive and know-alls should leave well alone (in other words, these bastards deserve shooting).

Don't worry too much Dave they only go up to a 46" chest so that narrows their market a little if it's directed a fat bastards on the Northern scene, on a more serious note this just about sums up what it has become in the eyes of outsiders to the scene, basically a total piss take and not to mention a rip off judging by the price, go well though with those retro Northern Soul sports bags, clocks, coasters, watches, badges, teddy bears and did I see Golly Wogs out there for sale as well? total rubbish the lot of it makes the very fabric of the scene all a little cheap and tacky.

It's not the shirt that I'm offended by, all these companys have to make a profit and find a new angle to keep themselves fresh, that's fine. What I was really getting at is the ill informed copy writer who has done scant research and comes up with the line 'Infamous' Twisted Wheel. when read as a whole it does yet again give the impression that northern soul grew out of drug fuled, crime ridden, origins. Infamous is something you would attach to The Crays, Richardson, Sing Sing Prison.

To paint The Wheel or any of the older allnighters as infamous is just wrong, yes they all had their share bad boys, pill taking, but so did most late 60's early 70's night clubs. The only time any of these clubs where infamous, was when some lazy reporter on some tin pot local newspaper was having a slow week and it was an easy sensational story to write. Even Yate and Stafford suffered from that from time to time.

Promote your products how you like, but get your trendy marketing wizz kids to do their job properly. Just generally have a problem with the new breed cool media types, jumping on the band wagon and then getting the story wrong and re-writting history.

Those cloth badges are da woist; properly made blazer badges were OK but this looks like a poor kid's boy scouts shirt with his orienteering and 2 lengths breaststroke badges stuck on.

I'm sure Paul's Boutique beat them to it some time ago with a northern soul mod parka

It could be careless writing and I've heard a few people use the word "infamous" as a compliment - as they do with "wicked" etc.

But at £85.00 that shirt is an absolute bargain, I'm surprised they haven't sold out already.

This isn't Fred Perry's first foray into Northern Soul branding. Perhaps 6 or 7 years ago they had a range of T shirts emblazoned with either "KING MOJO", "VaVa's" (I think), and "Northern soul Allnighter". The logo from the "Northern Soul Allnighter" (Wow - not a fist or a heart!) was used recently, and perhaps still is, as part of the window display at their 7 Dials shop in Covent Garden.

What I object to is, as already said, is their poor and inaccurate research -

"The 1963 Northern soul shirt has been recreated with authentic patches using unique artwork from that era."

1963!!!!? ...I don't think so. But that's what you get from a company that tells me they put on a Northern night at the 100 Club with Paul Weller guesting.

Do they use the same researchers as the Soul Boy movie?

Far more interesting is the (alleged) story linking West Ham to the "1957 Fred Perry". If Dave "dthedrug" gets wind of it we could be in for a whole new thread of epic proportions!!

Thats fine mate, must admit I jumped in with the original post all hot headed, still think these marketing types could do there jobs better though.

On another note, sundays alldayer was all the better for all those Fred Perry wearing young uns leaping around, but the 'Folk Music' fan in the long dress and straw hat, and the hip hop guy bustin moves to 60's tracks got my vote. So nice to see a happy folk music fan, god knows, they get little chance normally

I believe the Brazennose Wheel opened in 1963, so I suppose that's where this year comes from in the copy.

I can remember more than one young lady being 'rescued' from the back of transit vans about to head off fro Whitworth Street by distraught parents, who had got wind of their errant daughter's intention of attending the Wheel.

Actually this is a bit weird 'cos a few weeks ago I got on the tube on a Friday evening and saw an incredibly beautiful 20 year old girl impeccably dressed in what looked to be almost authentic 60's mod attire carrying a holdall that said 'Northern Soul' on it. She looked spectacular, like she was on her way to a model shoot or something.

Being the charmer (or lecherous old twat) that I am, I asked her if she liked Northern Soul and she smiled and said "Oh Yahssss" so I told her I was one of the original DJ's from Wigan Casino but after that she looked blank......

So either there's a fabulously hip and extremely stylish young scene which likes wearing Northern Soul and Mod clobber which I haven't stumbled into yet or this girl was on her way to a Fred Perry shoot..................

Is this stuff coming back with the kids then?
