The All Time Mr M's Floor Fillers

Recommended Posts

I present an Internet Northern Soul show and I'm thinking of doing a Mr M's special for the whole two hours of my slot,

Any suggestions for an all time Mr. M's playlist ??

Thanks in advance.

Update on some of the tracks suggested

Gene Chandler - Nothing Can Stop Me

Otis Blackwell - It's All Over Me

August & Deneen - We Go Together

Ronnie & Robyn - As Long As You Love Me

Mitch Ryder - Breakout

Vel-Vets - I've Got To Find Me Somebody

Ann Perry - That's The Way He Is (instr)

Vibrations - Cause You're Mine

Mr.Floods Party - Compared To What

The Velours - I'm Gonna Change

Don Thomas - Come On Train

Saxie Russell - Psychedelic Soul

Ace Cannon - Sea Cruise

Nolan Chance - Just Like The Weather

Gene Chandler - I Can Take Care Of Myself

Gwen & Ray - Build Your House On A Strong Foundation

Reggie Garner - Hotline

Younghearts - Togetherness

The Monitors - Save A Little Love

Going to stop this now,The oldies played in Mr.M's depended on when you started going to the Casino,And of course,What you classed as an oldie at the time,If you went in 79 - 80 for example, your views on Mr.M's tunes would be different I suppose to someone who stopped going in 76-77,

Many thank's to everyone who posted,

One that sticks in my mind late 76 early 77 was " barbecue "

Quite a silly tune really) was it a commercial for an American food chain?)

But it had a thumping beat and at 3am in m's it used to pack the floor

Ps what is your radio station called???

Velvets - Got to find me somebody. It seemed to be played every time I ventured in to the sweat pit.

Once Ms opened at the first anniversary, the Southport/Ormskirk crowd lost their corner, as it was at the top of the stairs near Ms entrance. Most of them moved into Mr Ms, but I mainly stayed in the main room. When I did venture into Mr Ms, the main memorys for some reason are the more poppy oldies like "Opus 17" 4 Seasons, "Hey hey Bunny" John Fred, "Gimme Some Lovin'" & "Trampline" Spencer Davis, "Get Ready For Love" Paint Box & "Spookys day Off" Swingin' Soul Machine. I also remember The Spellbinders & a few other more soulful tracks, but it was the poppier stuff I mainly remember for some reason.

The description "an m's record" has always confused me. During my time at the casino (78/79) I never spent that much time in there but as it was oldies only, wouldn't anything have been played from previous years ie any wheel, torch or early/mid wigan records?

True but you had to be in that small noisey room to apreciate the atmosphre of mr m's

Loved the big floor but worshiped m's

not sure about the oldies only mate . i know it became an oldies room later on but in the early days it was just another room to accommodate the sheer number of people .in the early days many of the floor fillers of the day would be played along with older stuff

i tried to explain it to friend the other day what it was like in there , to get from one part of the room where the little stage was to the other end near the toilets was a task , you had to pick your way though the folks all stood around the dance floor no easy task . complete strangers would just stick there arm out offering cola or chewing gum to anyone around them , for me there hasnt been another atmosphere in any club that could match it, as for dancing  you couldnt even lift an arm up or hardly move your feet at times just a mass of sweaty bodies bouncing up n down .many times i ventured on the floor only to have to make a dash for the bogs to throw up coz the floor was alive .i could swear that dance floor bounced about 2 foot in the air at times  it was the heavy duty party people's room. no doubt about it

prophets ...i got the fever

yep..... always full, always hot. as an infrequent visitor to station rd, the musical memories for me (from upstairs) are: Towanda Barnes - you dont mean it, Spencer Davis group, Otis smith, The O'jays - I love music, Linda Jones- just cant live my life.

I loved M's . I was never a 'night person' , i just couldnt stay awake after 4am. I'd get a swift nudge off a mate letting me know a fave was on, suddenly i was goin for it like i'd had a shot of adrenalin. awesome place

Many thanks for all of the replies,Not sure when It will go out still putting it together,

The show plays every Sunday afternoon fro 15.00 - 17.00 Gmt.It's a live broadcast so every now and again a few slight co*k up's

It's 100% Northern all the way,

I try to vary the content on most weeks,The show is put together on a listener request basis and the motto of the show is "Our Music Chosen By You",

I play a selected instrumental track every week and in the first hour a married couple from Germany Email me their Postcard with 3 or 4 tunes on with themselves introducing the tracks,Some on here may know them Steve & Faxy Armitage,

In the second hour I play the 2 that charted section,Two tracks that where big on the scene and then crossed over into the UK charts,Then we have a live phone in link to Northern Ireland when a listener selects his 3 tunes that he introduces himself,Again a few of you may know him he used to be quite active on here at one time Kev Newry,

As I said before it goes out LIVE every Sunday,

The station website is www.funkysentialradio.co.uk

Once again many thanks for all the replies

Spent as little times in M's as possible. Remember Ann Perry, Dennis D'ell, Exus Trek, Jeanette White, Panic, Cause You're Mine, cheap Motown, things you could hear down your local youth club.

Yeah I remember loads of cheap Motown. Nathan Jones was played a lot about 77/78?
