Junior Walker at Wigan 1977 - one of the few live acts I actually bothered watching to be honest, never liked them as they broke up the dancing!

Martha Reeves at Wigan was good too, I posted a snippet of that up on here a few years back.

Saw the Four Tops at the Gaumont in Wolverhampton in 1971, first concert I ever went to, they were great.

I saw Junior Walker at St Ives in 77. I think he had a "pick up" band and no sound check, so it wasn't memorable. Also saw the The 4 Tops in 78 at West Runton Pavillion ( that's near Cromer in Norfolk ) Remember that being a decent gig as they had their own touring band. More recently saw Booker T at the Shepherds Bush Hall which was a blast until some knob shouted out " play what your famous for " - he was touring his new album so was featuring stuff of that ( he did of course play the hits too) He was touring using The Drive By Truckers ( longhairs ) as his backing band ( apart from drums ) and an ex Black Crowes guitarist whose name I forget. Sounded frickin' brilliant! Another decent gig was the Funk Bros at Ronnie Scott's which was shortly after the SITSOM film. A real pleasure to hear Jack Ashford reminiscing about the snakepit and Motown - a real old skool american showman - and of course playing tambourine - is there a better tambourine/vibes player/percussionist ? Oh yeah, and a surprise performance by Edwin Starr's nephew who did a brilliant version of War.

For me it was Chuck Jackson at Nottingham (now Oceana, was it Sherwood rooms or am I getting mixed up with back rooms of Mansfield Swan?). Can't really say why, just came together, one of those nights. I'd have to guess the year at 83/84. Such a performance.

Think I've got tape of 77 Jr Walker at Wigan Pete, must try to find it out.

I think i was there

For me it was Curtis Mayfield in London in the late 80's. Think it was just him, a base player, drums and percussion, a magical night for me. After that it’s gotta be the Waylo review at the T&C, so many of my Soul hero’s on stage in one night. In hindsight I think the crowd was a bit too mean (me included) to Marty Pello, considering he was invited by Willie Mitchell, so I’ve been told.

Was here too shortly before the wall coming down,was it called waylo revue ? there is a double lp to celebrate the wall coming down and the same concert in Berlin i think.

Memphis Soul Review. I was there too, Remember Wet Wet Wet got booed after poppa Willie introduced Marti Pellow. Also in attendance was that well known Ice Cream seller, Adriano Croasdelli, as I recall.

I was at the Earth, Wind & Fire at Bingley Hall as well. Also saw Commodores and Bob Marley there as well, but not on the same night

Parliament/Funkadelic was an interesting show at Hammersmith ??

Saw Bobby Bland a few years ago in a small Blues Club in Toronto and he was f**king brilliant. Also saw Mighty Sam at the Toronto Jazz Festival in an open air concert right downtown a couple of years ago.

Gladys Knight at the Niagara Casino 2 years ago was immense. I had seen her years ago but the wife had always wanted to go and her face when she started singing was worth every penny.

Having moved to Canada 12 years ago I have missed all the brilliant acts that have appeared at the weekenders.

I was at the Chandler show he was great that night I thought he was making a beeline to me to shake my hand only to grab my mate Lance who was probably the only coloured lad he could see at the front of the crowd we caught up with him later for autograph etc think it may have been ayear earlier than '83 though

Bettye Lavette at the Gt Yarmouth weekender late eighties after all the daytrippers had left following the Four Tops fiasco.She came on stage in the early hours with probably 150 people in the room and for me took the roof off superb.

trammps @ clee pier 1st anniversary 1976 (mainly because of the occasion)

but mainly didn't much go for live acts because, as said by someone earlier, they broke up the night of dancing.

For me it has to be Major Lance at the 76 Club, Burton-upon-Trent, sometime in the early seventies. Such a tiny venue with a stage no higher than two foot. Then a week or so later they had J J Barnes. Happy days

Yes the T&C gig I remember.... they had to turn off the power to get him offstage! He was the only one left on stage (still playing) the rest of the band were long gone

Saw him in DC in 2006 and got the chance to speak to him after the gig..........he remembered the Astoria gig but couldn't remember the T&C one!

Hes still got it.......if not a memory
