Shall I just go and winkle it out of him?

Might take some winkling.

You up for it T?

Shall I just go and winkle it out of him?

Quick Madam fly like the wind get this hellish chap to spill the beans .

The Camaros maybe?

I'm in Pork Pie land tomorrow Tee - on record-related matters - I could try and 'winkle it out' too - we could have a pincer movement

I like guessing games so how about this:

Local label prior to Madhatter/Penthouse (or acetate) pairing Living Color  - 'Thank The Lord For Love' with Mystery Men - 'City Skies.'

I think there's only ever been one copy of City Skies that actually plays the instrumental to Thank The Lord For Love and JM broke it! He'll have been looking for another copy ever since and would be bursting out of his trousers if he found a voc/inst coupling that pre-dates either release.

The period is about right...

I expect literally dozens of likes on this astounding piece of deduction by the way....

oh, suit yourselves - it was worth a try

Hmm, he's a tough man to outflank, hee hee.

I already know what it is Rich, I'm just toying with you :wicked:

Mind you, I might don a Guinevere costume and go seeking Excalibur anyway, you know how I love an outfit.

We could go on forever .... And I think we should cos the guessing is interesting

It could be anything ...... As I said in an earlier post Bernie Williams on Del-Val is theoretically possible as is Don Gardner 'Cheating Kind' on Tru-Glo-Town ..... It was a TGT recording that Gloria Toote leased to Joe Van Leer for release on Sedgrick .... She could have pressed it on TGT prior to that deal ...... Not dissimilar to the Joe Moore I have on TGT that was released on Verve that Joe gave me ... Only one I've even seen

My point is it could be anything really from the 'Classic' era

Let's carry on guessing ... It's fun

Andy

I think Jr Mccants is a strong contender rarity-wise, and if 30-odd years isn't enough to make it a classic, then the criteria would be stringent indeed!  However, could you say the flipside is a classic?

My money is (hesitantly) on something like the Emanuel Lasky Wild Deuce 45 on a missing Thelma number.

Either that or an issue of something previously thought unreleased (Little Ann/'Diane Lewis' etc, maybe a VIP promo of 'Suspicion'), though the problem with most of those theories is the likely missing flipside.

However it's also fun to let the flights of fancy roam free and imagine something like I'm Gone/Crying Clown by Lorraine Chandler on a previously unknown (and forgotten by everybody involved) Awake issue.

As I say, totally unlikely, but fun.  Most likely it's just going to be a gold Professionals.  Or a green vinyl John And The Wierdest, etc, etc.

Fun guessing, interesting to see what it's going to be, and hats off to John for a top-notch promotional campaign - as long as the final vinyl stands up to the speculation!

All the best,

Nick

I don't think Thelma 103 exists, interesting that the ztsc number Rose Batiste ZTSC97690 and Joe Mathews ZTSC97693 leaves the gap of 2 numbers one of these is the Reflections on Golden Word (Can't remember which one).

ZTSC 97691 is the Reflections "You're My Baby (And Don't You Forget It) on Golden World 19 - although the other side has ZTSC 97669 on it.

Cheers

Richard

Not sure if this is rare enough for all the hype but only ever seen the one??My mate had a copy of The Steinways on ABC Paramount white demo, think it was Filipino. He bought it off e-bay years ago.

Cheers

ZTSC 97692 was used for the re-issue on Thelma 114 of Joe Matthews "We Got A Good Thing Going" which was of course a version of Billy Kennedy on Thelma 109. Don't know if the ZTSC number was previously used on a legit 60s Detroit release also.

Cheers

For me the word CLASSIC is the key word in the JM description and therefore excludes all collector items post 1975 that no one really danced to !  Don't care that only three have been found and only anorak bob with tons of cash has a copy, or if Tom the incredible collector of the obscure found the acetate in a cockroach ridden warehouse in LA on a sweaty sunday but only his mam and three mates have seen it and touched it. Sorry for controversy, but if ain't a record we have ALL heard a thousand times, worn out shoe leather to and sweated buckets over dancing the night away to it then it ain't a classic IMHO.

Phew, now that's off my chest (no idea where that came from) come guys get thinking!. Tobi Legend on a hitherto unseen label, The Casualeers on some obscure label, The Carstairs on Blue Coach, Billy Woodss on a Stock Copy, there must be something being missed!!

Just hype, I've now tired of it and couldn't care less as it's gone on too long.

Honeybees on Wand?

willie hutch - love runs out / the duck - trudel

four larks - jumpin at the go go / i still love you - harthon

hesitations - i'm not built that way / soul superman - giant

john & the wierdest - cant get over these memories / no time - mutt & jeff

cindy scott - in your spare time / i love you baby - some local philadelphia label

A couple of weeks ago someone came over to the UK with copy of Margaret Little and Billy Woods

I think the Margaret Little made it's way to Pat Brady

I don't know if the Billy Woods went there or elsewhere and I don't know if it was a demo or issue

Honeybees on Wand?

Like the Just Brothers doesn't exist I am afraid. If it did I'll attend the next Russfest at Skegness in baggy trousers and "badged up" as a pennance for losing the bet - that's how confident I am.

Reading Keith's post above, a Billy Woods demo is looking possible or a Don Varner on Veep - at least that's a two sider.....BUT have to say for me personally a classic on a different label or format is less appealing than the discovery of a previous "acetate only" track.

Edited by Steve G

there are all kinds of weird first press things that almost nobody has ever seen but that exist.

i recently got a pressing of the ebonees on brewtown on a totally different local label and a pressing of the auditions on freckles on its original label (which I actually knew about). it could be something like that.

Are we possibly looking for a Levine discovery.?

Yes.

Because we don't know what it is, we are possibly looking for a Levine discovery. By the same token, we are possibly not looking for a Levine discovery.

That's the whole point of not knowing what it is.

ie we don't know what it is yet !

Kell Osborne on Highland also fits the bill although not in the flip side department. How about an issue?

Just one other to throw in, Len Jewell - Teri De 004 bang on the time frame, not ever offered on web as far as I know.

Darren

That's the only sensible post yet. Just one cracked copy known isn't there.

I'm inclined to agree with the Len Jewell theory. I'd be really surprised if it's something not previously acknowledged to exist.

That's the only sensible post yet. Just one cracked copy known isn't there.

I had the cracked copy sold it to Tim Brown Carl Fortnum has a minter, different b side to the Fontana release so that discounts it as the record as the b side is un known and don't he say 2 classic sides?

I'm sure everyone else who has posted on the 7 pages of this thread will be chuffed with your analysis  :g:
