Just heard the sad news that Brian has passed away, Lovely guy, Great DJ and a lover and pioneer of Soul Music , certainly knew a good tune, first spoke to Brian way back in 1967-68 I was working on the waltzers in Stockton heath warrington and we had Going to an Happening playing Tommy NeiL. And that’s what started the conversation , He will be sadly missed but never ever Forgotten A true Legend of the Northern Soul scene.

Back in the mid 70ts when all we had was Black Echoes - I would flip to the NS 🤔 think it was melting pot and view where the DJs were playing Brian Rae was my go to DJ - played oldies put 100% into his DJ ing and would take time to talk to a kid speeding my nuts off, asking stupid questions - When the Casino shut in 81, we opened the Peterborough Soul Club in 82 - Brian was a dj who without question would help us out - it’s been great knowing you Sir - RIP mate

Truly saddened by this news. Brian has been a part of the scene forever ! even the St Ives days, he was a stalwart. Mr M's, all Peterborough events, late 70s early 80's, to the Right Track (Parkway). Oddfellows , etc etc. he was king of them all, a proper legend !! there was nobody, who could generate such force to fill a dancefloor. RIP Brian, was a pleasure

Truly devastated, such a lovely guy and a legend just doesn't capture it does it!!

Always had time for a chat and an ear for an over enthusiastic youngster when I first met him in the early 90s.... he will be sadly sadly missed and remembered with fondness x

When Chris King & Terry Sampson formed the Notts & Lincs Soul Club, they took on Birmingham Locarno which became a fortnightly All Dayer on Sundays. Brian was i think, the first name on the list there...that's how i got to know.....not considerably as long as many others on here but, i came to know him and saw him dj everywhere else after that...would've been 77/78 period. I asked him if he would dj at my 21st Birthday party...he even brought the equipment!, a night i'll never forget.

A genuinely friendly, warm, honest guy, laid back...djing was a natural for him and he was followed and adored by many.

He's now at peace, free of the shackles of illness...for us who remain, his passing brings great sorrow but safe in the knowledge we experienced some wonderful times in his company, wherever we originate from...he will be wholeheartedly missed.

God rest your soul in peace.

Condolances to his family and friends. Great chap, friendly to everyone even us 15 year olds that shouldn't have been there. Attendees of Oddfellows St.Ives and Peterborough all benefitted from his knowledge and The Fleet oldies room was the pre cursor to the RnB we have today. He worked at Charly records and gave me a few lps. Also re activated Ninas My Baby Just Cares before it was on an advert. Often seen at the Halcyon Peterborough before an all nighter. Absolute top bloke.

Sad very sad news , I used to love listening to his Anecdotes going back all the way to the beginning of the scene & then some . Shared many a mile up & down the M6 with Brian , early days of Wigan then to Aldayers in Colwyn Bay or Birmingham, very enjoyable memories always happy, rest in peace Brian .

Lovely memories of him playing Deon Jackson ‘ I remember the feeling’ and Jackie Wilson ‘Open the door to your heart’ as the sun rose over Morecambe Pier. Great DJ and such a nice guy. RIP Brian.

I recall Brian from my visits to Manchester in 1970.

He was always wearing a black crombie and carrying a suitcase of records within the Twisted Wheel club.

I remember him dancing in the alcove near the deejay cage with his mates.

Never a year has gone by without me thinking of him.

To say that I'm saddened by Brian's death us an understatement, he has been my friend, mentor and confidant for over 50 years. I first met Brian as a 16 year old at The Carlton Club in Warrington, along with another legend of our scene,Dave Langley, they both had time for a young obsessive soul fan and we became great friends from then on,he and his wife,Madelaine, were always happy to give me a lift here there and everywhere,St Ives was a regular trip as was Wirrina Stadium,along with many other places he was dj'ing at. We spent time at each other's houses,as I became a real grown up and he taught me so much about our music and regailed me with wonderful tales from his ever so colourful life...

a legend is an oft used word these days,but in Brian's case it is the most fitting title for a man who had so much knowledge and so much time for everyone, rest in peace my great friend, your suffering is over, til we meet again,as you always said to me,' good night and God bless ',

So sad to hear this. My memories of Brian were mostly from the late seventies, early eighties at Birmingham Locarno and latter years of Wigan, amongst other places.

Such a lovely man and such a loss.

The last record I bought at the last Casino niter was from Brian on his recommendation...

Very sad News indeed and Brians prescence in the Northern soul scene has helped generate numerous memories for thousands of people during his time. condolences and thought go to all his family who were with him as he passed peacefuly in hospital.

Now then The Man the Myth The Legend: Brian was a Grandfather A Father, a great friend for so many a year and lived the life he wanted and was 100% SOUL. From the 70s t a few years back we travelled here there and everywhere in vans and cars, sometimes we would do three venues in a nite, the journeys would be filled with music non stop smoking and making up play lists and stories to do with records.

The thing with Brian was he had time for all and would stop for a chat or verbal and in a lot of cases give up time to help out, met some great folks at all sorts of venues and always had a card room, and our house was always your house. Yesterday this all came to a stop, you Spartacus will never be forgotten and look forwards to some into the night chats with friends who can remember.
