Is "stone mint" better than mint?

When is a "Grail" not really a Grail (or even remotely holy)?

Who decides what is "rare and underplayed" and how?

Does "big ticket" mean "some clowns with too much money and no idea bid each other up"?

When was "please can I have" officially replaced by "can I get"?

Cut me some slack, I'm nearly fifty and don't know what's happening ...

 

What about 'mint minus'? The most meaningless grading of them all? It's either mint or it's not mint. If it's not mint, because it's been played or has a few hardly discernible flaws, then it's Excellent (which is non-existent in some grading systems, including on here). You're either pregnant or your not pregnant. You can't be very nearly pregnant.

"Can I get" drives me nuts as well. As does waiters and shop assistants young enough to be my grandson calling me "mate", but especially being called "guys"............

"Guyz" is a fantastically patronizing phrase.......I use it all the time

If you go into Starbucks etc and opt for the radical "a cup of coffee please" - deliberately avoiding the use of words like skinny - two things can happen:

a. the whole thing either grinds to an amusing and confused halt; or

b. it backfires horribly because you're then asked a dozen questions, at least seven of which you don't understand

That is so true about coffee. I'm not much of a coffee aficionado and will pretty much drink any white coffee, but Jess, being American, drinks black Americano coffee. 

I get so angry when I order a coffee for her and ask for a black Americano when the kid behind the counter says "Do you want milk with that"

no you fuckwit, that's why I asked for a BLACK Americano !!!

So...

I can't stand people starting sentences with "so"...

Teenagers I can understand but now media staff do it.

One that really gets me is when we are told what will happen to those underplayed grails and so forth if they do not sell.

SO - they may go on to ebay (or evil bay) or they may go back in the box - does it really matter where they go?

I don't mind "mint minus" as I know it will be very good....

what bugs me is VG which means scratched and scuffed with snap crackle and pops....and then the most stupid G ....

G = crap. 

So...I was most affronted when asked for my name by a Costa server......blissfully unaware of the practice of writing your name on your takeaway cup!! So I refused to tell her...and she looked at me gob-smacked like I was an alien!

Mint Minus..............oh shit shouldn't have played that MINTY when I was pissed because I was amazed it's never been played.

Excellent............Played this sober because I just couldn't resist been the first one who actually dropped a needle on it for the first time in 40 years.

VG+............One that's is starting to look as if it's 40 years old but aging with grace & has had some sort of divine intervention to protect it for all those years & plays with only an amazingly small amount of atmosphere(the slightest of background noise to you & me).Let's be honest this is all you'll ever afford to own because if your lass finds out what a MINTY costs the divorce is going to cost you a lot more then a pristine bit of plastic........fukc her I want a mint one.

Fukced!! but learn to live with it because this is all your pocket-money/paper round stretches to.Smell the bacon because when you play this it sounds like some is been fried out of one if not both of the channels on your sound system. At least you can say to your mates "look I've got one of these" & hope they don't ask you to play it to them.There is a chance if it's a USA VG- it might be half descent & the low grade is to do with label more then the vinyl but if it's UK VG- look for a frame to put it in & decorate your wall.

OK for djing...........Have a few stiff whiskey's,turn your hearing-aid down & it will sound great out.Hope the punters are pissed or off there tits & they won't notice that it really should never see a needle again & certainly not in public.If someone does question it go on the offensive straight away with "when was the last time you saw a real one of these..........div"

Hi All....my number one #1 HATE and I mean HATE, is the written word SOULIES, what the f**k does it mean?.

When looking through this thread, hang on who come up with that? Back in the 6ts there was a split in MOD culture I clearly remember the change in teenage sub culture, suddenly some mods had become passive, while others kept to tradition being fashion concourse, I had a strong dislike to kids who come from the same background as me with London Roots living in New Towns in the home counties, suddenly saying "COOL & MAN" after every word,, they for some reason adopted words that were very American Hippy talk, but with this split, by the end of 67 we just called the "FREAKS" and as such they become instant targets for a "kickin" this split had a big impact as those who resisted the MOD split become "BOOT BOYS" in 68 and the media named "SKINHEADS" in 69.

Which leads me on to the word "SKINHEAD" anyone who was around in 68 to 1970 who was more in tune with the MOD world, will be well aware of the love of BLACK MUSIC, this included the new Jamaican music style called REGGAE,, now if I skip on 10 years there was a so called MOD revival , lumped in with it was  "Oi!" these people took on a similar style to the 69 BOOT BOY, but they had a racist attitude, as such today the population think that  is what a "skinhead" is, my gripe with this is the terminology used by record dealers who when selling early Reggae, use the heading "SKINHEAD REGGAE" no it's not, many black people hate this term as it sends a racist message, of this 1980s racist twat in boots 100 lace holes high, to my knowledge of reggae know skinhead recorded any Reggae record in the years of 68/70? so why do record dealers use this offensive term to sell records, oh yes they sell them to white people, so can I say that the words "SKINHEAD REGGAE" is my big one. as it is racist.  DAVE K

Well Dave You sound almost as confused as Phil from that there Preston SOULIES I Repeat SOULIES was used by them on the main drag just down the hill from the casino to shout obscenities at us SOULIES but I do agree about the skinhead reggae it was just reggae to me & my mates so no need to add the word skinhead its almost as bad as the ad with the skinhead & the Asian Lady on the see-saw to advertise that people should stay in the EU.

Hi All Kirsty I think  "Pennies Worth" is a good term to use when you are in a meeting, and the usual suspects who know it all hog most of the meeting time, and you finally catch the attention of the chair, you have limited time left to speak so you might as well get your PENNIES WORTH or get straight to the point, I often use the opening words at this scenario with "the greatest respect chair" meaning that I have none because you are in the pocket of the meeting hoggers' & time wasters?

As for confused from Preston. Preston is a  place that I went to school back in the 6ts, as a boy with a London accent I could never understand a bloody word they said,  nice people nice town,

As for the name calling when going to Wigan as I remember there use to be a big queue to get in, as a nonchalant Southerner, I would always go to the front. this always got their blood boiling but although there was muttering about who do these f**king Londoners think they are, a quick glance at them was all that was needed, I mean did any of them expect me after driving 140 miles stand at the back of a load of 14 year olds, I mean would you? KTF

Sorry Dave but I beg to differ, I was around in 68 to 70 and well remember the birth of Skinheads. Even in those early days, and well before the "oi" revival, some of the skins I knew would go "p*ki bashing" and this group would often include kids of West Indian origins.

I do however agree with your assessment of "skinhead reggae" its a total misnomer, it was just ska/reggae danced to by skinheads at the time.
