I dont think we should get in to a post about this, i dont think it was based on Richard being a DJ surley it is about his contribution to all Soul music promotion.

2 posts from you and both on the topic about Richard, is that all you joined for to shit stir?  

Does it matter if others warrant recognition?  There aren't many who have been doing it as long as Richard and done so much to promote the scene and the music as well through his shows, record labels and other work.  It is as I told Richard, good that the music has got some much needed recognition as well.

Did not know anybody over the last 42 years I've had the honour of listening to Richard Searling have a negative thing to say about him!

Yes, of course there's a list a mile long of other great stalwarts on the scene who deserve a gong, but Richard is right at the top of the pile.

Having been involved to some degree in nominating and getting someone an award from the queen (MBE for someone in football), I can assure you it is a quite lengthy process, takes about 18 months after submitting the nomination.  The criteria is also quite strict, they don't give these awards to anyone and certainly not to someone who has played a few records down the dog and duck or even an all-nighter for a few years.

I love to see Soul Sister Jane's nomination for an award like this and the reason why?  I cannot think of anyone tbh who has been so prominent and done so much for the music for nearly 50 years?  Take the rose tinted glasses off mind, being a  personal favourite will not get them an award, they need to have given service to something for quite sometime.

No, I can’t think of any DJ on the scene who is more deserving of an award. Sure, there are other very good DJ’s worthy of tribute in a thread on ‘Favourite DJ’s, but only a handful who have had a national impact.

Moreover, this is not the time to make comparisons. Richard should be basking in the glory of what he has achieved. We are privileged to be in a position to admire Richard’s achievement from the sidelines. I have enjoyed Richard’s DJing, various compilations and more recently his book, for 45 years but his contributions stretch further back than that. To even consider making alternative suggestions at this juncture would be a heresy.

It's ironic really as Soul Sister Janes all time favourite soul sound is "I Need Love" Daybreak.

  This was Richard Searlings exclusive monster sound at Wigan Casino, covered up as Tyrone Edwards "Search This World".

l wonder if she was even born then!

I could certainly see Ady being a top candidate for an award for the crucial work he's done for the furtherance of soul music over the years with Kent/Modern, the 100 Club and Cleethorpes etc - however that in no way detracts from Richard who thoroughly deserves this award and is of course a much higher profile figure amongst the general public.

How can you dis Richard as well as his shows and working tirelessly to promote black American music of all genres he has Influenced so many peoples taste in the  music. He thoroughly deserves this. The only dj at the casino worth listening to in the latter years apart from the master Soul Sam. Whom should have a accolade himself.

We have been referring to him as 'Sir Richard Searling' on this here fine site for many a year. So of course he deserves it!

Those are my thought Siss. What were your thoughts for thinking otherwise?

                  There are no better DJ,s than Ricardo!! Richard Memories :: 1974 Station Road ; constantly annoyed Richard to play " R.Dean.Taylor " ,As ,I,Am walking Down The Street etc every night at his 2 ,Am Spot,eventually on request number 7 he gave me a mint copy of beacon 136,in birth sleeve, forget marsden and garrick this was Ad fab {Richards flowery adjectives !}. Root and Jenny Jackson,stuffed it in my Speedo Holdall {with E blacked out] Rushed home to Coventry and played numerous times the Ultimate Turd version ,needless to say I never tested his immaculate patience again , What a true Diplomat!

Advance 1976 :Stomperoonie Time , RS ,drops the Garrard Sp mk 3 on  a new release Tavares " Heaven must Be Missing an Angel Jane SS " Perfecto ,then Smith Bros , he introduced me to Modern Soul!

On a recent "Solar Radio " Show ,Richard Bemoaned the fact he hated the misery of current News ,well if more of us could be like R.S etc,etc ?

Finally a certain tune of his  on General American ,should be his acceptance accolade,  " Nothing Can Compare To You ",Mr Searling I Salute you Soul Brother !
