There have been many great soul records since the sixties.

What would you personally consider to be the best double sided 45?

Two that immediately spring to mind from different eras are -

Magnetics – Count The Days / When I'm With My Baby

Rose Batiste – Hit & Run / I Miss My Baby

Can't argue with any of the above, a couple of less obvious ones maybe

Four Voices - Your Love Is Getting Stronger & With A Lonely Heart.

Lots of really good suggestions above too such as the Admirations, Jack Montgomery, Billy Hambric, Dena Barnes etc - very tricky to pick the best of the best, so just fortunate you can listen to two for the price of one... now where have I heard that one if it’s not too late to mention it, or picture it in a sleeve...

Classic , Stanley Mitchell Get It Baby , Quit Twisting My Arm .Dynamo

Philip Mitchell , I'm Gonna Build California From All Over The World , & this one all always finds it's way to the turntable .

I don't claim these are the greatest ever but they are wonderful double siders and certainly my taste in Soul and in the tradition of a dance record and a ballad on one disc.

Tyrone Davis Running a losing race / I tried it over    Sack

Bobbie Jean Bland I'm satisfied just loving you / Do it    Sack

I tried it over and Do it are just wonderful Soul music in my opinion.

Soul Source has been my number one website to follow for many years.  It's great to see the faith still be shared.

When I started on this journey over 40 years ago there was no Internet, but everyone shared the knowledge and helped one another.  It's fantastic to see that after all these years we still have Soul Source and each other.

For all the younger generation and people just getting into soul music, this is a great place to be.

As we would say back in the day.

Keep the faith

Keep em coming folks, thank you

Larry Williams - I'm the one / One good reason

Larry Williams - This old heart of mine / I'd rather fight than switch

Hokis Pokis - Nowhere / Cant wait for love

Yvonne Baker - I cant change / Mend the torn pieces

Surprised no-one has mentioned the Epitome of Sound double header, gets my vote.

Such quality in a complete one off.

Doh!  meant to put in a plug for the Victors - Hurt/Not only a girl knows - Phillips

Lonnie Russ Say Girl / Something For My Love Kerwood

Tales of a recovering vinyl junkie.  Years ago I was at the 100 club and there was a copy for sale and I knew it would be a long time before I saw another and had to have it.  The wife was really concerned as I said if I don't sell enough records tonight to buy it I'll offer my car lol.  I did get the record and didn't have to part with car lol

Definitely, great to see both Admirations/Aspirations quoted.

I think Harpo (when he had his original collection) and Ted both had the rarer Aspirations.

As time has gone on there maybe more?

I played the B side a few months ago as a request at the Spitfire Club. A couple of people came up to enquire what it was.  As you say, pure quality.

great double and for me , what a memory

black stock copy too , how Good is that .

Broadways Sweet & Heavenly Melody/You Just Don't Know

Jerry Williams If You Ask Me/Yvonne

Shirley J Scott Goosepimples/Lonely Girl

What's evident from the responses is you could have a tidy half price collection if you concentrated on double headers!

It’s fascinating going through the thread, a proper mixed bag of quality soul. Anyone just getting into soul music, look at the posted suggestions, get on to YouTube and play them, guaranteed you’ll be hooked.  Then find them, buy them and enjoy them.

Some of the popular suggestions in no particular order –

Darrell Banks – Open The Door To Your Heart / Our Love (Is In The Pocket)

The O'Jays – Hold On / Working On Your Case

John And The Weirdest – Can't Get Over These Memories / No Time

Admirations/Aspirations - You left me / I want to be free

Billy Hambric - She said goodbye/ I found a true love

Jackie Beavers - I need my baby/ a love that never grows old

Cashmeres - Showstopper /Don’t let the door

Dearly Beloved /Do You Believe It - Jack Montgomery

Bernard Williams – It's Needless to Say / Focused On You

My Kind of Woman / You're my Mellow - Edwin Starr

Show Stoppers - Ain't Nothing But A House Party / What Can A Man Do

Larry Atkins - Ain't that love enough /Lighten up

Ruby – Feminine Ingenuity / Deceived

I used to have a blank white label test pressing you could drop the needle on any side and be guaranteed a monster.

Used to be known as Billy Kennedy until stock copies were discovered........

Billy Hambrick   I found true love

                         She said goodbye

The same time I had the above mentioned Bobby Wisdom Handwriting/Girl I call my baby, also had the Soulettes on Scope 2 decent sides on that. Not sure if anyone has mentioned Charles Brandy, Professionals on Groove City, Profs and Sharon Scott on RCA yet.

So I'd be top 3.. Bobby Wisdom, Darrell Banks

But the best has to be a record that was massive the last few years at Wigan for Richard S and Gary R. Then after that side died down Gary R flipped it over and had another monster on his hands.

Frankie Beverly Because of my heart/ I just want to feel I'm wanted
