Not really that bothered about what people wear thats not the issue to me . Just hate the media and fly by night bandwagon jumpers trivialising something that I have been passionate about for the last forty something years . That's exactly what this advert has done .

Its our scene we have shaped it into what it is , dug out obscure music that would have lain unwanted forever, made stars out of artists who nobody had heard of , all this was done without the help of the media . All the media ever do is cock it up .7

We should have nothing to do with them they have not earned the right .

,

well the genies been out of the bottle since the 70,s with regard to commercialisation, same as how could we class something as underground when its most popular venue was voted best disco in the world (disco ffs) back then ,

and folk have been making money out of the scene ever since it started , lets not get hoity toity about this , some dj,s would suck knob and probably have done to get a spot at certain well known venues ,

the amount of crap that has been espoused since this tv advert was shown is unbelievable . comments like the above and its not the worst just make me cringe , the scene don't belong to anybody and anybody can play a part in it , theres no entrance exam or qualification , theres no difference from a first timer to a seasoned vet when your on the scene ,we just want everyone to be respectfull end of,

as for the je suis posters I have seen . this is really trivialising and demeaning , how the fook can people equate what happened in france to a guy who has been critised for playing a part in a tv ad ,if the guy who was in the ad did it in the belief that he would get no stick from the keyboard warriors on here and elsewhere ,then he must be very nieve or as thick as a gurhkas foreskin .

You are right in everything you say but everyone is also entitled to an opinion.  As long as it isn't personal and vindictive then I see nothing wrong in giving those opinions.  And after all this is a forum, debate, argue and pass comment is what happens on them.

People who have invested time money and effort into the scene are entitled to an opinion.  Just because you or others don't agree with it doesn't make that opinion wrong, doesn't make it right either for that matter, there is no right or wrong.  I said earlier people can dress how they like, it doesn't bother me each to their own, some of the clothing in the ad looks smart.

But people must be pretty naivé to think an advert can be made and no comment will be passed.  Those who made the advert are probably pretty happy with all the talk, both good and bad, shredded wheat has had tons of free publicity.

Chalky

lets not kid ourselves , the people or conglomerate who make shredded wotsits have probably never heard of soul source and don't or wont give a toss what a handful of old duffers(in the main) think or type on this site .as for whats been put on farce book that's probably a different matter ,

agree on all you say ,

at the end of the day we are a music and dance scene (one of many) we think we are special and we believe (I do anyroadsart) that ours is the best ,. its been with some of us for a long time , but its just that , for me and most of my friends its what we do every w/end go out , meet up with great people ,listen and dance to fantastic music , its not life and death but my life would be a lot less poorer without it .

I would imagine they are privy to what is being said and like I said they must be happy the way it has gone by and large.  I agree there has been some nasty comments and they are totally unjustified and uncalled for, Dave nor any of those in the adverts deserved some of the crap directed their way.  But the dress, the portrayal of the scene in these media campaigns, the constant impression that everything today is as it was in 1974 to 1977, it does p*ss a large amount of people off because it isn't how they want the scene portrayed nor themselves to those on the outside, but they should behave like adults when giving their opinion.

And yes life would be poorer without the scene although I could live without it as I would still have the music and that is what it is ultimately about.

Yes I was joking Matt lol.....

The only thing I don't find funny is when people call other people clowns for wearing something they don't like.

Nothing wrong about having an opinion, but no need for insults.

Is Bobby Angelle same person as Bobby Garrett or Earl Nelson

Just as an aside to the general debate, what I have found odd about my experience the northern scene, is that you try to convince everyone that this is the best music in the world, but don't want the people to then come to the venues, because it's ours!!!

Let's be honest, if you change Bobby Angelle for Gene Vincent (?) and film a bunch of middle aged extras dressed in James Dean movie garb doing their moves, it's going to attract both praise and flak, isn't it?  If you lend yourself to the process, then expect to be commented on, both favourably and negatively. No need to be so bloody precious about it, is there?

Hi I wanted to comment on the Ad and the positive message it is sending out "Look after your Heart" When we are on the dance floor we are all 18 again and as the Ad states re living our lost youth.

I recently lost my Brother Steve who suffered a Heart Attack during the Wigan Casino re union at Blackpool Sept 2014, Steve was 51,

So please view the Ad in a positive light and the message it is getting across. Well done Dave.

I hope this does not offend but I just wanted to express my thoughts.

Helen (Steve's sister)

Take care x

Can't agree with this.

I love the young blood getting into it. I was young once :)  and love their enthusiasm.

My beef is with people wanting fame at any price and making a mockery in the process.

Yes, it's only a commercial but how very embarrassing and they don't seem to be able to see that they've been made an object of fun. :(

And some of us actually missed the baggy clown pants era, I  got married/raised kids from 74 onwards........I really don`t remember many, if any full circle skirts and baggies, I never even knew what Spencers were until a few years ago. It was smart casual and trousers/jeans/cords that were wide enough to dance comfortably in.

I have to ad that I don`t see anything wrong with the suits, trousers aren`t ridiculously baggy.....not sure about the full-circle skirt and bobbi-sox though :g:

A good advert!

How high are your stiletto's and what colour is your ball gown? Money supermarket might be looking for lead actors in their next advertisement with those qualities.

Shredded wheat are good for you, use em dry and scrub the feet to get rid of the hard skin. It works for me.
