Rest in peace Aretha, no one can take your 'throne', no one has come near in the 51 years since the first Atlantic album.

Such a sad day , but she gave us all so many memories and her music will stay with us forever .

R.I.P. Queen !

Music 'Legend' is thrown around too readily. Aretha is.

Not just the obvious Atlantic songbook, there is so much before and after too.

I've been buying a lesser Aretha album a month for the past year and been delighted at how much great music there is.

Imagine the harmonies now the sisters can sing together again!

We all said a little prayer for you, but all was in vain, i'm gutted x sleep well, you will be  ever in our Hearts and Soul, 'Aretha "Soul Queen" Franklin'

RIP Aretha - from her early Columbia output to brilliant Atlantic - a huge catalogue of memories.  Just played her version of 'Oh no not my baby' - Rest easy.

RIP.  Aretha The Queen of soul. Thank you for so many memories, your songs have touched so many people. Difficult to pick a favorite, but I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER seems appropriate. RIP You will be in many peoples prayers & thoughts Respect.

R.I.P. Aretha, someone who had more talent in her little finger than most of today's so called singers, the Queen of Soul will be sadly missed, but has left a wonderful legacy to us all.

R.I.P.  Aretha ,  The Queen of Soul .

Again,well said Dave.

I wanted to add that for me personally, the first time I heard Aretha's 'Lady Soul' lp in the mid 80's I was totally blown away by how amazing her voice was and the fantastic arrangements of the tracks.

I'd heard her songs on the radio but I didn't listen to much Soul back then,I was into other things, but that album in particular was a real turning point for me.

Her music also represents things I feel strongly about in the world of music, such as the importance  of church music/gospel in the development of soul music - put simply, its where so many artists learnt to 'sing it like they mean it'. That and music as a conduit for bringing people together.

I listened to 'Lady Soul' very recently and I'm happy to say it still gives me the chills..the record is a true triumph of artistry.

Obviously her output is vast, so much good stuff for people to listen to and discover and as much as her work oozes Soul  there's actually little bits of country, rock, pop and all sorts in there. Proving as ever that genres mean nothing really and good music is simply good music.

We all new it was likely to happen but it still hits.  This is a clip of Aretha with the Tops, which always makes me smile and showcases two of the greatest voices of all time.

What an amazing legacy to leave the world of soul. RIP Aretha 💞

That magnificent heavenly choir just gets bigger all the time

RIP Aretha

Today, we had to say goodbye to the No.1 lady of soul.

I'm sure that many of us have shed a few tears at the news of her passing, as her words and music have meant and said so much to us over the decades.

But I know, once the sadness and loss of our beloved Aretha eases, her legacy of tunes will bring joy to our hearts for the rest of our lives.

It's time for you to show the celestial choir what they've been missing.

Thank you for the sweet Soul music and the trail you blazed.
