I love Richie Havens' version, beautiful. But Spyder is the one.

How many artists recorded this tune?

I know of two more apart from the three mentioned above. The Original Cast(e) on DOT and Robin Wilson on A&M.

With respect

Is this question worthy of the reply  -  If you have to ask you wouldn't understand?

Not all of us use elevators Mike  :wicked:

I'm with you on this one Joan! Spyders everytime!

I've gone for Richie.

So did I, it must be a moderator thing :)

To be fair though, Spyder's is much easier to dance to

Spyders is an awesome soul/dance track Win - always loved it.

Richie was new to me a few years back and has something quite magical about it.

:hatsoff2:

Ritchie not bad, but a bit 'pub singer' and too light.  Ritchie is like, 'oh well I'll probably get over it'. Spyder's voice aches when he sings, he's dying inside. He's the man.

Does Rob Thomas sing then Mick, I've only ever heard him grunt and growl. :)

Great memories of both but Spyder does it for me.

Rob does a funk version

I'll tell him!

:shades:

If there is a competition, price against brilliance, including every track played on the scene, Spyder must be at the top.  Of course this is just in my humble opinion.  I don't think I'll every tire of listening or dancing to it. Got to be one of my funeral records.

Spyder for me as brings back cherished memories of friends who couldn't run as fast as me in life and are no longer here and therefore holds a special place in my heart. HOWEVER I came across some years back and adore and love Richie's smooth Callier-esque vocals so it's a bit of a hard one really, theres no BOTH category damm you evil Mike!

What about the writer's version - Gordon Lightfoot?

I like Spyder Turner's Detroit Soul version best.

absolutely no contest...

someone once told me there were a million pressed of Spyder Turner... One of those things you hear at all-dayers propping up the bar, I dont for a moment believe MGM actually pressed 1 Million of this track... or did they? :g:

I like all versions posted. Such a great song, excellent lyrics and a haunting melody.

But to me, Spyder Turner is by far the best. It epitomize Northern Soul. Lyrics, production, voice, just perfect.

I get too low with no reason

You say it's the moon or maybe the season

But something's not the same and I won't let my mind believe

Baby something's wrong, all the feeling is gone

I can't make it anymore, just can't make it anymore

No, no, no

Lately, I don't feel much like talking

Instead of going home, I go walking

And thinking too much and darling I'm hungering for your touch

Baby something's changed, I don't feel the same

I can't make it anymore, just can't make it anymore

Don't know the reason why, but I just can't lie

When I feel this way, what else can I say

I can't make it anymore, just can't make it anymore

Where did we go wrong, where do I belong

Let me find out when did it all began

Why I'm leaving you, why is our love is through

I can't make it anymore

I've got to say it's all over

No, no, no

Was it ever released by him? Or just shopped around as a songwriters demo?

Quite amazing that the song kept being recorded during such a long period of time by different artists. From 1966 to 1972.

Apparently there's a version by Richard Williams as well on an LP called "Where Do I Go" on the Quad label produced by Johnny Pate. Has anyone of you heard it?

My head says Richie Havens but my heart, soul and feet tell me Spyder Turner

the story i read was that he never recorded it , read someone saying  that havens must have heard it being performed live in the new york poet/folk type bars

the  later recordings may be due to havens performance of it at woodstock as have read people who were there later saying that performance of it  was a influential  moment

Spyder man!

No contest, one I never tire of too.

When it gets to the bridge & goes up an octave, so uplifting.

Yes - I have the album - slowish version but ok though - not amazing !!

Spyder's is almost the perfect Northern "Soul" record. Dramatic, Soulful, perfect speed, superb production, tantalisingly short...however, it's easy availability preventing it being of that "Grail' status. Beats the sh#t out of Frank Wilson IMO. Love it.

I also love..and prefer...Ritchie's version. Love the subtlety, different chord changes and like his laid back folksy delivery.

Cheers!

I've got both Spyder and Richie's versions but as only one vote is allowed have gone for Spyder, probably because I knew it before the other.

But I like them both... in different ways.

I like both , but Spyder cut's the mustard. Regards S.
